The Chase Park Plaza

Our first time at the Chase. We checked in last night. Rooms are very small, the closet situation is bizarre. We have not been here 24 hrs and had to call for hairdryer & our air conditioning was not working correctly. We didn’t have room service menus & There are no robes in the room, just a belt tied around chipped wooden bar in closet. Refrigerator space empty. I’ve found the room & bathroom not to be that clean. I just expected a higher quality in a place like the Chase for the $$$

What a wonderful 4 night stay!!! All the staff were incredibly helpful and always appeared in a happy mood!!! Can’t wait to return!!!

When I was a college student I came to St. Louis to explore Wash U with a friend who was considering grad school there. While trying to find somewhere to go out one of the nights of our stay we drove past the Chase Park Plaza. I fell in love with the building and thought I would never set foot in such a lovely place.
Fast forward ten years and my manager made it happen when my team stayed here for our annual gathering. So much old-​school charm here. Amenities include two bars, a steakhouse, a movie theater, a scaled-​down Starbucks counter, and a spa, among other things.
Five-​stars for every staff member I encountered.
As for my room it had a lot of natural light even for being a lower floor, a comfy bed, good shower products, a spacious bathroom, and a desk.
Things that, for me, kept it from being a five-​star room:
— a stain on the sheets (blood or coffee; it was small and didn’t look fresh but when everything’s white it really stands out; I wouldn’t make the bed with stained sheets personally)
— long, dark hair stuck to one of the towels (this happens a lot of places but in a swanky place I don’t expect it in the same way I do at a Super 8)
— outlets that weren’t easy to access (ie: behind a nightstand, behind a chair; it’s an old building so I understand it wasn’t designed with charging multiple devices in mind)
Nothing that’s a deal breaker but it’s those sorts of details that make for a five-​star stay.
I did have a nerd bonus of encountering Christopher Kimball (Cooks Illustrated/America’s Test Kitchen/Cook’s Country) when I was getting in the elevator — he walked by too quickly for my brain to process how to say hello, but this seems to be the place to stay in STL — Bonnie Raitt was also a guest during my stay (though I didn’t cross paths with her).
If I want to treat myself on a future trip, the Chase will be at the top of my list.

Honestly the second I walked in I felt like I had entered another time. The level of elegance and class that this place exudes is unreal. The beds are extremely comfy. The valet service is quick and convenient. The pool is magical and the poolside service is exceptional. Best hotel I’ve ever stayed at… would definitely stay again.

This hotel has awesome history and the architecture is phenomenal. The front desk could probably be staffed better. I understand a Saturday is a busy day, but when we checked in at 3:30 we were told our rooms were not ready yet. We were given drink tickets for the pool and were told we would be called when our room was done.
It stormed and we had children, and no clothes other than our swimwear. I called to see if the rooms were ready and was told they «just became ready» (right…)
It took longer than the 10 minutes quoted to get our bags.
Do not get me wrong I will stay here again, but I wish they were staffed appropriately. Perhaps someone called off and it was a bad day… otherwise the hotel was great!
The Mother’s Day brunch was fantastic!

My sister and I decided to treat our parents to Mother’s Day brunch today at the Starlight room. When she called to make our reservation, she was quoted the price of $ 55/​person.
You might imagine our complete SHOCK when we arrived and were told that the price for all four of us would be $ 351.46. (!!!) The woman at the desk smiled politely and said it included taxes and gratuity. My brain wouldn’t work and neither would my sister’s. When you have $ 220 in mind, and you’re expecting that taxes and gratuity will be added, you still don’t expect it to come out at over $ 130 OVER THE QUOTED PRICE!
When you do the math, it comes out at $ 87.87/person. After taxes are taken out, the gratuity works out at 50%. I don’t wish to under-​represent what the servers do, nor do I wish to under value it. A 50% gratuity, however, for a buffet, is outrageous.
I checked online when we got home to see if we had gotten the price wrong, and on the hotel’s blog, it’s advertised at $ 65/​person. When I brought it to my sister’s attention, she was insistent that when she called she was quoted $ 55/​person.
Naturally, she feels that she was intentionally misled, and we are both still pretty disgruntled about the whole thing. We’re both teachers; I’m a university adjunct (which means minimum wage nowadays), and my sister teaches in an inner city school. This was enough of a difference to require us both to reconsider our finances for the next few weeks.
The bottom line is transparency and communication. The brunch was excellent and very enjoyable. But to advertise the price as one thing and then charge a much higher price — in advance of the meal — is manipulative and misleading. Chase Park Plaza — if you are going to require that the meal, taxes and gratuity be paid upfront before the meal, then you should transparently advertise it at that rate. Luring people in at one price and then charging something different at the door is a well known business practice that even has its own name: Bait and Switch. I believe it is even illegal. I’m sure you get around it because you can justify your reasons as purveyors of fine dining. That doesn’t change the nature of what it is, however.
Shame on you.

The Chase is cool and a historic landmark in St. Lou! Photos of the famous people have stayed here were present in the lobby! I was also pretty excited that Bonnie Raitt was staying at the hotel while we were! I had a very pleasant stay here and I really appreciated the hospitality and neighborhood! It was a beautiful area of town to take a run in the morning! Parks, restaurants, bars, work spaces, and the Chess Hall of Fame are all within blocks of the hotel!
The rooms were comfy and quite large, and were super clean! The bed was great, and I sunk in to a golden slumber every night I was there! So much that I almost missed my flight home! ZZZZZZ

Four stars for a wonderful experience at this local landmark. There’s just something so cool about staying somewhere with such a rich history. First of all, a first run movie theater? How cool is that? Hair salon, florist, several restaurants and bars, on-​site events staff and more — can I just move in? I guess I could for a few million (the residences). I didn’t get to hang at the pool, but it looks amazing!
My room (if you can call it that) was roughly the same size as my first house. A full kitchen, large living room, massive bedroom and big bathroom — literally like 1,000 square feet — it was epic! The bed was great, the bathroom lovely, I truly could not have asked for a better room. It was not spotless, however, especially when I had to look around for plugs for laptops and phone chargers and the like, but it’s seriously such a big room I don’t know how they could keep it perfect. I could have used a heavier blanket, and though I guess I could have called for one, there should have been something in the closet.
All the staff I encountered was lovely, and I would absolutely stay here again in a minute! Especially if I had time for a movie and some poolside action!

It’s a great place… If you like being woken up at 12:30 A. M to rock music. Which is especially annoying when you’re trying to sleep. I feel like you should cut all music off at 10:00 P.M. This part was the worst about my stay. I could not get a wink of sleep!

My mother has called not one… not two… Not even three… But FOUR times to turn the music down. Have they listened? No! The people here treat you like crap, the appliances break easily, you can’t get any sleep. I would rather sleep in my car than spend another night in this sorry excuse for a hotel.

I didn’t need to stay at The Chase to know that it’s a St. Louis classic. Between it’s beautiful architecture and grand lobby, it makes a statement for itself.
I don’t really stay at many hotels in STL… since I have a home here and all… but I had the pleasure of staying here for work. It really was the perfect stay-​cation. They upgraded my room to a suite which was really nice. Their suites are incredible. I know their rooms look different depending on which side of the building you’re staying.
When you go home to a hotel room, having the extra space to spread out can really help. They had a living room and dining room area. It’s truly crazy how much space was in here. It felt like a presidential sweet.
The staff at the front desk are really helpful and they have valet! Woot. Not feeling fancy, they have their own lot! The Chase has really has everything you need: Awesome bar (The Preston), a gift shop with a Starbucks in it, a steakhouse, a café, another bar, AND A MOVIE THEATER! Waaaa? Nice.
I hope I get an excuse to stay here again soon!

Lovely hotel! Really lovely.
Historic and elegant without being stuffy, the Chase Park Plaza served as home base for me while in St. Louis for a quick work trip a few weeks back.
Highlights:
A fantastic gym, great dining/​drinking options on-​site, comfy beds, giant rooms (at least my room was giant!), friendly front desk staff and again, a solid amount of character without the pretense.
I would certainly stay here again were I to find myself in St. Louis for work/​otherwise. Yay Chase Park Plaza!

Lovely hotel that’s walking distance from the action in the Central West End. I stayed for three nights during a work trip. Nothing but great things to say, really. My bed was huge and comfy. The TV had digital cable, so I got to watch some March Madness in HD glory. I want to take the walk in shower and put it in my house, ha.
Huge bonus points for the building itself — there as multiple bars and restaurants in and around the lobby. You could never go outside and always have plenty to do.

Classy joint next to Forest Park and by a ton of restaurants and bars in the Central West End.
I enjoyed my stay in this gigantic hotel as the staff was super friendly, the room had a nice view and the bed was big and comfy.
I’ve noticed some reviews for hotels are exceptionally thorough as if going through rigors of engineering status, so I’ll apologize for keeping this short and sweet — really liked everything about this place and the Starbucks in the gift shop area was a nice touch as I had to head out the door early this morning.
I used the gym one morning and it was nice, and the park the next morning and it was nicer.
I did valet since there’s no visible public parking nearby and it came back a tad steep per day, for what it’s worth.

Overall a good stay!
This place is older but huge! I stayed in a suite for business and the room was pretty awesome!
If you are looking for something to do at night do not stay here. Down town was quiet and the bars at this hotel were empty.
Overall a good stay for the money would def come back again!

Lovely hotel! Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom included a walk in shower, very nice. The proximity to the science center and zoo are ideal for a weekend getaway with our toddler. We will definitely stay here again, and bring our little one next time.
UPDATE– left a shirt in the room. Called the same day. This was a brand new, expensive top… to be brief here, I got the run around for over a week. I called one to two times per day. Talking with multiple people and always ending up being transferred to the security desk. No one ever answered the phone in security, and I left multiple voicemails without any returned calls. I get it, it was my mistake for forgetting my top. However, the way this was handled by the staff was anything but professional or helpful. Not to mention the fact that they employee at least one person who is a blatant thief. Planning a trip to St. Louis in the next few weeks, and we will not be staying here.

I normally stay at the Ignacio when I come in town to visit my son. However they were undergoing renovations and recommended that I stay here is a comparable property.
Well, the truth is that they are two very different types of hotels. The Park Plaza is full of old world charm and reminds me of a step back in time. A step back I really like! My room/​suite was well apportioned. The lobby is classic. Yet the feel of being old school is well complimented by easy and strong wifi access and recent movies in-​room.
The location is easy for the Central West End, a hipster area, and there is a movie theatre in the hotel.
This may become my new place to stay in Saint Louis!

I scored a great last minute deal with a friend so we decided we had to check it out! We were upgraded complimentary to an executive suite (score!). The lobby and 1^st floor is very well done and I wish I had scheduled more time to have a cocktail and explore. The room itself was large and spacious, however felt fairly dated and drab. The room had a full kitchen, but again outdated and very 1983. I made use of the sleeper sofa, however there were no sheets and the mattress itself was stained. My friend also noted that his mattress wasn’t terribly comfortable. We ended up hitting the road earlier than planned. All in all, I thought it was a nice space, good location, but not worth more than I paid for.

We stayed in a small suite here for NYE. The room looked a bit dated, but was very large. We ordered room service 2 times and both were pretty good-​margherita pizza and then the breakfast with eggs, sausage, toast, and potatoes. The room
service staff was excellent and quick. It is a central location, the lobby is beautiful, service is very good… just a little dated in the rooms. But for the price, it was a nice little NYE get away.

Second time I’ve stayed here — both times for meetings. Very conveniently located (next to a huge park, upscale grocery, and nice restaurants). The hotel is very cool (has movie theaters, restaurants, bars) — had a remodeling effort a few years ago and it really shows. The rooms are huge, have really nice amenities, and are very quiet. Great place to stay.
(Had to edit my review and drop the rating to 4 stars because housekeeping did not service my room — I had to call and request someone come and clean my room. Not the kind of service I would expect from a really nice hotel.)
