Great service! Teresa was the best. She accommodated my crazy requirements with a smile.

This place is the standard for service and food. It is truly amazing how good virtually everything is, and no matter what we order. The sides are huge, so bring your friends. I don’t mind the prices because it’s worth it. it’s a short review because there simply isn’t a better place to eat in the twin cities.

Great Food, Great Service!!! Went for lunch while in town for business! The Cream of Minnesota Wild Rice Soup is to die for and I could not finish my Landmark Salad as it was huge for lunch. Will definitely be back when in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

We had horrible service, we sat at our table for 15 min before our server came to our table. I had the duck and it was fatty and flavorless and everyone else’s meals were only average. The only good thing of the night was the ahi tuna appetizer.

Was here with work colleagues for a retirement party. Kind of disappointed. While the space was nice, when you order a burger«medium rare»(I got the Humboldt Fog) there should be more than a hint of pink, rather, this came out as wholly overcooked, even if one had ordered medium — borderline crispy on the outside of the patty and the innards were brown throughout. I’ve had this experience in countless places throughout the Twin Cities so I believe it could just be a local thing. If juicy burgers are more your taste, be sure to ask for it «still mooing». Aside from my beef gripes, the rest of the burger was pretty solid. Good bun, good cheese, good sauce. That said, the fries are the bomb and the carrot cake is among the best I’ve ever had. I’ll definitely swing by for dessert again at the very least, if not to let this place redeem itself on the burger front(or maybe just to try the walleye, which seemed well received in the party)

Without a doubt, one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The interior of this hotel restaurant is inviting and warm, the bar is beautiful. From the moment we walked in, the staff was friendly and warm. Our server, Mary, perfectly timed the dining experience and was very knowledgable. The food here is top-notch. We started with with the shrimp cocktail, made with gorgeous jumbo shrimp. I had the 6 oz filet, Oscar style(topped with Bernaise, lump crab, and asparagus). It was cooked perfectly to my liking and the toppings brought a tender steak to a whole new level. I ate every single bite. My partner had the rotisserie chicken, which was, without a doubt, the most tender, moist, and flavorful I have ever had. We split the mushrooms as a side, which we perfectly done. We unfortunately did not have enough room to try and of the deserts, but ended the meal with a very nice cup of espresso. I loved every moment of my experience here and I cannot wait to return!

I had a shrimp scampi here and it was finger tasty! You have an option of either dining in the bar area or the dining area. The dining area is quite and the feel of the place is nice. A bit over priced though.

This is where you take your parents for brunch. Classic food, great service and beautiful ambiance. Make a reservation because it gets busy! The caramel roll that is brought to the table before you order is what dreams are made of.

Absolutely, hands down the BEST dinner I’ve had in years… And we dine out often. From the Escargot, to the shrimp cocktail, the steak and chicken pot pie… All of it was absolutely delicious. We will return.

Food was good but my son found a hair in his ginger beer. Not acceptable for a classy restaurant. No apologies from staff.

I visited the St Paul Grill last night for the first time in years for a business dinner. My reservation was for 6:45, but I arrived early and ordered a beer at the bar. Wes(the bartender) was on the ball, friendly, and informative. As the rest of my group arrived they were served with the same promptness and friendliness. Our table was ready 15 minutes before our reservation, which seems to be a rarity these days in a lot of restaurants, so that was nice. Once seated, we were greeted very quickly by our server. However, his service was a little spotty — I would rate him a 90% though for his effort and friendliness. Where things went sideways are with the food. We started with the seafood sampler — greasy fried calamari with the breading falling off, fantastic(albeit small) crabcakes, decent shrimp cocktail, terrible seared tuna. The tuna was very tough and flavorless. Presentation was«thrown together». Five of the six of us ordered steaks. All were cooked to the temp requested. I ordered the sirloin. I’m not sure how they season the steaks, but I would guess they’re dipped in butter and seasoned. The steak was so rich it was difficult to finish — first time in my 43 years I’ve struggled to finish a steak. Also, I found it to be over seasoned. I usually sprinkle a little salt on my steaks at good steak houses. This one was far too salty without me adding any. For sides it was the hashbrowns and broccolini. Both were warm when they got to the table — not hot! The hashbrowns were super greasy, and chewy on the outside rather than crisp. The broccolini was under seasoned — maybe to counter the steak? As a group we ordered 2 or 3 bottles of Bud Lite, 2 Old Fashions, and I had 1 glass of wine. Even with this small alcohol order the bill came to $ 485 before tip. I’m used to seeing $ 75 or more per person for a top notch dining experience, especially when entertaining business guests. However, I just don’t feel The St Paul Grill lived up to $ 80+ on this one. I would definitely go back and give it another try some time just for the fantastic bar experience and great atmosphere. But it will be a while before I take a business group in again.

Excellent! You don’t really have to say anything after that. I entertain customers at many high end restaurants around the country. The St Paul Grill does it first rate. Exactly what you would expect in the St Paul Hotel. Atmosphere was excellent especially with the winter carnival across the street. New York Strip cooked to perfection and our service was spot on. If you’re looking for a special place this is it. As I said… Excellent!

I absolutely love the old school charm of the St Paul hotel and their restaurant. I’ve been to the hotel bar many times but had an opportunity to dine there for the first time today and left a huge fan. Probably the best wild rice soup I’ve ever had. I thought I might actually need a cigarette after I finished. i also had the pecan encrusted salmon that was quite tasty and the service was awesome. I can’t wait to go back and have that damn soup again! Also love that the valet guy still wears a top hat. They are such a throwback.

This place is i go to when I want fancy. They treat you like royalty. For lunch this time I we sat at the bar. The crab cake is the best west of Pennsylvania that I’ve found in 20 years of searching, and the wedge salad is a combination of blue cheese, thick cut bacon and dressing that knocks your socks off. I’ve never had anything that wasn’t amazing and for really special events we go here as a rule. It is also handy to valet here if you want a cocktail and snack before a show at the Orpheum. If you’re sitting at the bar, tell Theresa that Geo sent you.

My wife and I ate at the St. Paul Grill for the first time for our anniversary last night and were quite disappointed. The server was very friendly but also slow. This wasn’t a big deal because we weren’t in a hurry. I ordered the filet, medium rare, but it was hardly cooked at all. It was cold in the middle. We are not fans of sending food back to the kitchen so we ate it, but didn’t enjoy it at all. My wife ordered a second glass of wine when our food arrived but it didn’t come. We reminded the server the next time she stopped by but she still never brought it. We thought the server redeemed herself by bringing us a nice little dessert that we didn’t order, with a candle in it to celebrate our anniversary. That was great… until the bill came and she charged us $ 4.95 for the dessert. We were also charged for the second glass of wine that we never received. On a positive note, the bread and the walleye were delicious but that didn’t make up for all the other issues. What a disappointment.

Always a first choice when I get to choose the restaurant! The brunch is fabulous. I love the fancy feel to the place, but still a warm inviting atmosphere as well. I love the complimentary giant, warm cinnamon rolls they serve at brunch! You really can’t go wrong when ordering here but the steak is always a favorite. The hostess woman is always sweet and is good at remembering customers’ faces. Coat check is very handy too, as we don’t have to worry about sitting atop winter coats or losing mittens! When I went for my birthday they served me a complimentary piece of chocolate cake with raspberries, so rich we could each only have a couple bites! Yummy!

Unfortunately my friend and I could not enjoy this restaurant as much as we hoped. I chose the restaurant because I have dietary restrictions. Their website includes a celiac menu, so I felt confident they were comfortable with customers who have restrictions. Our waiter was aloof and seemingly uninterested in my questions about the menu. I ordered a salad with no dressing and my friend the portobello mushroom sandwich. I received a salad with dressing(that included items that make me sick) and my friend received a hamburger(he’s vegetarian). I asked the waiter about the dressing and he assured me it didn’t have my dietary restrictions in it, but double checked. Sure enough he was wrong and they remade it. In the meantime, my friend didn’t look carefully at his food and took a bite, immediately realizing he was served meat. We eventually got the food we ordered, but the waiter was distant and unfriendly. After that ordeal, I was shocked he charged us for the that food he completely messed up on. There’s NO way I’m returning to St. Paul Grill.

Seriously delicious! We had a wonderful server and the food was amazing. I ordered the halibut and mixed green salad and my hubby had filet with ceasar salad. We had a beautiful view, nice ambiance and a great location! Definitely an upscale and fairly expensive place, but worth every penny. We were celebrating a special event and it delivered.

So here’s how it started: I wanted my boyfriend to take me out. It was 4:00 pm on Friday. I said I wanted to do a real date at a nice restaurant… two hours later and no reservations could be made, we decided to head for the St. Paul Grill and just hope for a spot before 10:00PM. The restaurant in the hotel is beautiful, preserving the décor of the 10s, 20s and 30s. Quietly romantic and perfect for a classic date. A nicer outfit would be better than jeans and a T-shirt. At least that would have been the case if there wasn’t a Taylor Swift concert at the Xcel Center. The bar was packed, people were rude and dressed in what could be best described as biker-chic. Common rule, people: if you’re at the bar, not sitting on a stool and are socializing with people at a table nearby, you don’t get to continue to call dibs on the stool at the bar… which is what three women decided to do. Certainly from out of state; a Minnesotan makes sure there’s room for everyone to get drunk comfortably. It’s just common decency. Anyway, when we checked in with a host, she told us the wait would be 1.5 hours!!! Unaware of the future horror that would be the bar, we put ourselves on the wait list. However, the bar was short-lived because about ½ hour later, a hostess approached us and said they had a table for us! A total«YAY!» I have never been to a restaurant where I’ve been seated significantly sooner than the projected time. Our food ended up being spectacular! I had the ribeye steak and split a baked potato with the BF. The baked potato was ginormous and perfectly salted. My steak was actually cooked to my liking(medium) and it melted in my mouth like warm butter. The serving staff was great: attentive, patient and not pushy for how busy it was. For dessert, we shared the burnt crème and cheesecake. If you have to pick one, go with the burnt crème. The sharp crack of the shell will bring you a great feeling of satisfaction. I was really looking at their chicken pot pie too. I saw somebody else eating one and it did not seem to disappoint. Oh! and they have a good menu for those who are gluten intolerant. OMG!!! And the bread! So good. Between the food and service, I would definitely return, even if Taylor Swift fans are at the bar.

Looking for a solid go to American spot when visiting St. Paul? Head on over to the grill. It is located in an old traditional hotel downtown that gives you a good sense of the opulence of times long gone. But of course we want to talk food… in a phrase«they deliver.» It is good solid well prepared fare using only the finest ingredients. I had the sampler plate and shared it with my colleagues with a side of those fantastic Brussels sprouts-yum! The seared ahi melted in my mouth and the crab cake was mainly fresh crab and little cake-stupendous! Best calamari ever hands down. The only draw back was that we were seated in the bar(party of 6 on a Tuesday) and it was very noisy! We didn’t have a reservation so maybe that is why we were seated there. Also the place is a little pricey. Finally try the Kentucky Mule from the bar it’s just a good solid drink.

I love, love, love the St. Paul Grill & Hotel. We’ve been here a few times this summer and while I dig the festive vibe, I think I am going to start eating in the bar rather than the restaurant from now on. Service is the bar is top notch, the staff is down to earth, super friendly and quick! We always have so much fun, meet interesting people. Unfortunately in the restaurant, we seem to always get servers who seem to be having an off day or they’re just not that into it. Our waiter last night seem annoyed by everything we asked about or ordered. Maybe he had some personal problems he brought to the table but nevertheless. next time we will eat in da bar.

What should have been a fabulous meal was reduced to merely average due to our server, who had the personality of a undertaker. Dropped the menus and simultaneously asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for just a minute to decide; we didn’t see her for another 15 minutes. When she returned, she asked for both drink orders ad dinner orders. Umm, ok. When we asked about specials, she handed us the card. No discussion about what was recommended, no highlights, no chatter at all. I obviously don’t need to be her best friend, but some rapport, some indication that she was engaged in our presence would have been nice. When the bottle of wine arrived, she poured one glass, then walked away. Ok, I guess I’ll pour for the table. The tuna, ordered medium rare, arrived medium well. The chicken rigatoni was so spicy it was inedible. The other two diners did enjoy their halibut and steak. We were never asked if we wanted more wine. For the price, we expected much better, attentive service.

For our most recent experience, service was five stars and food was three. Service at the St. Paul Grill has always been exceptional which I’m a huge fan of. This is a great place to stop for burgers and beer before an event downtown St. Paul. There was an issue with our appetizer which our waiter comped without our requesting it. My entrée, the halibut special, was exceptionally tasty and light. Definitely something that I would order again. My gentleman caller was craving some pasta so he ordered the chicken rigatoni. It was good but not something either of us would order again. The biggest disappointment was dessert; I love me some chocolate. We ordered the molten chocolate cake but the taste of raw liquor overpowered the entire dish. We took about four bites and left the rest. After dinner, we were headed to a Wild game. It was nice that the St. Paul Hotel valet parked our car and kept it for the game. Valet was $ 15 and the Xcel is just a short walk away. They also do this if you’re attending a show at the Ordway– just be back by 11:00 pm on weekends :)

This is a five star restaurant if there ever was one. We sat at the bar at 5:00 on a Tuesday because the place was crowded and really jumping. Felt like 8 pm on a Friday. People were so happy to be there. It’s always fun to hang out in a place where everyone is happy. I wanted something different so I tried the escargot. It was amazing. I ate that and use the bread to soak up every speck of the amazing sauce. The Tom Collins were perfect. Made our Tuesday night a perfect one. Greatly appreciate The Grill.

I have been here a few times for dinner so I thought it was time to write my glowing review! The Crabcake starters are excellent and so is their Strawberry Spinach Salad. I also love their Filet Mignon and they used to have a Panko Crusted Chilean Sea Bass on their menu that I wish they would bring back. The service is always excellent. When we asked for a bigger table since we were originally put in a cramped space they immediately seated us in a more open spot. They also have a nice complimentary birthday dessert that has chocolate and is very tasty! The desserts are fabulous here and they have a nice wine selection as well. The only thing they should change on their menu is the way the escargots are prepared since they have heavy breading on them. They should have an option to order them without the heavy breading since most restaurants seem to serve them that way. I always enjoy coming here for any occasion and this will always be one of my favorites restaurants in MN!

On a recent trip to Minneapolis/St. Paul, I had the opportunity to return to the St. Paul Grill for a late dinner with a friend. The St. Paul Grill is a beautifully-appointed upscale restaurant in downtown St. Paul. It was late, so we decided to keep things light, sharing a few appetizers and salads: Ahi tuna: four thick slices of sesame-seared ahi tuna, wonderfully prepared and served with a vegetable garnish and wasabi. Fresh and melt in your mouth good. Pepper-crusted lamb: grilled lamb served with a cucumber dressing. The lamb was tender, but I thought it lacked the distinctive deep gamey flavor I was looking forward to. The cucumber dressing was good, but it smoothed out whatever lamb flavor was there, so I used it only sparingly. Mixed green salad with bleu cheese dressing. Refreshing(and surprisingly filling) greens after the heaviness of the lamb. It was a pretty simple salad — greens topped with tomatoes and red onion.(My friend doesn’t like onions, so I got all of hers!) Bacon mac and cheese: By now, we were feeling pretty satisfied, but couldn’t turn down the bacon mac and cheese. It was heavenly and decadent, with a characteristically strong cheese bite and savory chunks of bacon. And to top things off: Chocolate lava cake! This was not your typical lava cake. It was served in a bowl to keep all the rich, creamy goodness inside. And get this — it was spiked with bourbon. The dark chocolate flavor mixed with the bourbon, along with the moist yet firm texture of the chocolate cake was sheer BLISS. Enough to put you in a sugar coma, though… While we didn’t choose any of the main entrees this time, I have had their ribeye before and it was fantastic. As expected, they have a solid wine list. Great choice in St. Paul!
