The Boundary American Grille & Tavern

Yes it is an old strip club and yes, it isn’t the cutest or prettiest place to look at. However, the food makes up for it! If you like food with a little bit of a kick, then this is the place.
I’m not a big veggie burger fan, but this place makes the best. It is a huge burger topped with avocado, tomato, onion and pickles (house made, I believe). You have a choice of sweet potato fries or regular fries. Both options are great! other delicious options include the fried green tomatoes, potato leek soup and the one sandwich that had marinated beef (can’t recall the name). Their Mac and cheese is VERY rich!
Their apple pear cobbler is tasty but my fave was the vanilla cheesecake. We have been semi regulars here.
However, the place has shut down. This place will be missed. The food was great but the location and the fact that it was a former strip club might have contributed to its closure.

Ate here twice with some friends after many drinks– great late evening dining experience both times.
Unfortunately this place didn’t last very long and is now closed, possibly doomed by location (former strip club). Supposedly, the owner opening another place in Gulfport in the next few weeks.

Was in downtown St Pete looking for a new place to try and even though the reviews were mixed I thought i’d try this place.
Parked in back, walked around front and was greeted by a «For LEase» sign. Guess the bad reviews were too cause it’s gone baby gone.

restaurant reviews are tough for me. as the resident Unilocal vegan in the TPA area, i usually don’t have a ton to write about, unless the place is veggie to start with.
so for all of that the boundary is getting five stars form me solely on the basis of the vegan and veggie options on the menu. usually places that are carnivorous give short change to their veggie options. they’re some mediocre pasta or a portobello cap thrown on a bun… let’s keep that veg*n form vetoing the place while we focus on the meat-​eaters seems to be the mantra.

it’s by no means a vegetarian restaurant, but jason, who designed the menu is a great veg*n chef and it shows in the options.
the vegan chili and the tempeh sliders are by far two of the best vegan options in the tampa bay area. and i would say, with only MAYBE the chick’n version of the stake sadwich at meze, it’s by far the best «comfort» vegan food in the tb area. jason puts an incredible sauce on the tempeh and then just cooks it up to perfection so that the slider has great taste and texture.
the chili is chock full of tomatoes and beans and the sauce carries such a nice sweet tang that you really don’t even care he hasn’t tried to guss it up with fake meat.
and the best part… daiya available with everything, so we vegans can have the cheese experience too.
the boundary gets five stars from me for two reason —
1. obviously caring a lot about the vegan palate and not giving is short shift
2. this place used to be a run-​down strip club. thanks to jim and jason for turning it into something that builds up the neighborhood

Based on another Unilocaler’s advice, I ordered the fried green tomato appetizer tonight (half price at the bar with $ 3 draft beers! yowza!!). They were to die for. There were three succulent green tomatoes gently fried in a delicious batter. For our entrée (Creative Loafing Deals $ 25 for $ 12.50), we ordered the rib eye served with a side of mashed potatoes and fresh squash. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits. My eyes bulged out of my head, but the real deal was the taste of the food. Just pure goodness. I cannot give this place a higher recommendation. We hung out in the bar tonight and were served by the friendliest bartender, Greg. They served our dinner on a bar tablet which made it extremely comfortable to eat a steak. The people seated at the bar were equally friendly. This time we arrived late enough to catch the first set of live music. The food here is delicious. My steak was so big, I could eat it for another two weeks! Portions are gynormous and prices are very reasonable. I

I went in with my fiancé on a Saturday night. There wasnt very many people in there, and I must admit, that frightened me. Once I took a look at the menu, I knew we came to the right place. They offered fresh takes on the classics. She ordered a Black bean veggie wrap. I ordered an open meatloaf sandwich. From what she says, her meal was terrific. Mine was absolutely superb. I FIRMLY believe that if you put MEATLOAF on your menu, you better be on point. This meatloaf was just that, ON POINT! Better than my moms. SO moist and the right amount of sauce. Not like a dry burger-​loaf that some places offer.
I have since ordered take out for lunch and the pulled pork sliders were great, as were the soul sauce wings. I will continue to dine here, and hope that others figure out this excellent restaurant, right off the beaten path.

Jason the chef is truly the best! So innovative and creative with dishes. The decorum will slightly throw you off, but the food makes up for that.

I just loved the food that we got from here I had the blackened shrimp wrap Charlotte had the seared tuna and spinach cakes and the girls had the clam chowder and the macaroni. I have to say everyone was satisfied with there food.

Something delicious for everyone. The Boundary has a diverse menu including a wonderful selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Great prices and terrific service.
I had the vegan chili and a side salad, which was really larger than a side salad. The produce was fresh — a nice blend of greens, cucumbers, and grape tomatoes topped with a fabulous herb vinaigrette. The chili was equally superb with lots of veggies, beans, and just the right amount of heat.
My friend ordered the Texas tacos with chipotle bbq tempeh, vegan cheese, black beans, and corn. She too raved about her lunch.
I definitely envision being a regular at The Boundary.

Excellent food. Menu is very diverse. Yes, the décor is pretty bare bones now but all the important things like service and food quality are first rate. Owners are friendly and very accommodating to all tastes and needs. They support local music and musicians. Handy location in a new, trendy part of town. When you are done with Beach Drive prices and attitudes, try this place.

My wife and I decided to try out this new place on a Friday evening. I saw nothing in other peoples’ reviews to tell me to stay away, so we went for it. I had the meatloaf, which I think is the measure of a dive restaurant. I had no problem with it. The smashed potatoes had a skin, but the green beans were done right.
My wife had the turkey burger and liked it.
OK, now the not so good. We shared the spinach cakes. We both love spinach… Not these. The chef took frozen spinach, put it in a blender, then seared it. No salt, no flavor, no texture. Its saving grace was the sauce it came with. I was able to drown out the yuck.
Then I looked at my beer. I saw a brown thing on the lip of the glass. It looked like the bartender cleaned it in the septic tank. OK, little gross. So I asked for another. The waitress obliged and I once again found crap floating in it. But this crap was bubbling. Ewwwww. I took this one up to the waitress and asked her to bring me a Cigar City brown Ale in a bottle. She told me the keg must have been at the bottom. (that means alot of people had poop in their beer) and she brought me a Toasted Ale instead. Oh well, it was beer.
I ate my meatloaf and drank my beer and awaited my bill. Strike three. All but my last beer was on the bill. I think they charge extra for the manure.
UPDATE: I would not recommend eating here. I don’t think the clenliness issues are unique to the bar. I spent most of Saturday in the restroom. Approach with caution.
It’s hard to imagine that a restaurant that has only been open for 2 months already has cleanliness issues. Maybe they forgot to clean up after the previous business. Good Luck.

At times I really wish that the ambiance of an establishment had no role to play in my review, because if that were the case Boundary would have received 5 stars. The inside of this former strip club turned restaurant looks like a trip to Ikea gone incredibly awry, that is my only complaint, and no it’s not some type of kitsch that they are trying to achieve, it’s just really poor spatial planning and interior design choices. Debating interior space use isn’t why we came there, in the end it’s all about the food.
For an appetizer we were treated to a shrimp tempura, whose batter was light and airy, yet crispy. The Shrimp was accompanied by fresh homemade salsa, and was plated perfectly. The french fries were made fresh cut, and the portions were more than enough to satiate my needs. The chef here is amazing, and I’ve always enjoyed his culinary creations, so my expectations were high and I was pleased to see the quality I’ve come to expect was present at this establishment.
For my main course, I skipped my usual entrée and went with the crunch seared tuna wrap. It was a perfect blend of Jicama with freshly seared tuna and a special sauce that was created for the wrap. The blend of flavors was perfect, delectable and refreshing.
Service was prompt and courteous. I wish I could say that I chose to review their drink menu, but did not for this trip. Overall our experience was good, and most importantly we had a great meal. I would recommend boundary to anyone seeking great food and a reasonable price. Everything about the food is perfect, and the ambiance while not perfect, is something you’ll ignore after the first bite!

Where do I begin… After looking at the description of this restaurant and reading the menu on line we thought we would check it out. Upon entering the restaurant it was clear it was in serious need of a make over. We were greeted by our server and I begin to ask questions about items they offered. She did a great job of selling the food, it is sad that a good sales job didn’t equal a good meal. We ordered the burger and the ribeye. When the food was delivered to or surprise the burger was RAW and the steak was less then a ¼ inch thick and rare, ordered it medium. We sent them both back and get this… They took the burger that was cut in half, put it a microwave and returned it to the table. The steak was not cooked anymore then medium rear. The steak had no flavor and really should not have been called a ribeye. Or server came by and asked what we thought so I told her the truth. I find it sad when people put stakes on their menu and don’t know how to season them or cook them. The owner and chef came to or table and delivered a desert that was very good i might add. I never had a chance to speak to him personally so my feelings were not heard. A good desert in no way makes up for a over priced meal that could be ordered at Denny’s. I am sorry to say that we will not return.

Having seen all of the buzz going around about this place, we definitely had to stop — and we were not disappointed. My husband, 3 year old daughter and I dined here on a Saturday early evening. When we arrived, we were the only people in the restaurant — and only one more table came in after us. I hope it starts picking up — I know that’s been a tough location.
We started with good beers — and we love good beers. The list here is decent — enough craft brew goodness to keep it interesting, but not overwhelming. Then, we ordered the spinach cakes to start. The tzatziki sauce they’re served with is what makes this dish delicious.
They don’t have a kids menu yet, but said they could make chicken tenders or mac-​n-​cheese for her. We went with the mac-​n-​cheese and it was awesome. Creamy, tangy — I think we probably ate more of it than she did :) She’s not even a big mac-​n-​chz fan but she scarfed it down.
My husband had a burger and I had the tuna wrap. If I was more a fan of spicy food, I think I’d have enjoyed it more — but the flavor was amazing (just a bit too spicy for my taste, I’m a total wuss). My husband’s burger was awesome.
I had the sweet potato fries and they were overdone and cold; I’ll go with another side next time. The owner stopped over and I felt bad for not sending them back (I know it’s never wrong to send back poorly cooked food to give the kitchen another chance). He made it up to us (actually, before he even knew about it) with a free banana blueberry cheesecake that was divine.
Overall, we really enjoyed the food, the prices were definitely reasonable, and the beer list comprehensive. We’ll be back!

Went to try this place out because it’s really close to my apartment. The happy hour prices were good, and our half price appetizers were yummy. We had fried green tomatoes and crab cakes. The crab cakes were lemony and maybe a little heavy on the breading, but tasted good. Beer selection was good, I think I had an IPA and the bf had a Cigar City Maduro Brown Ale for $ 3 each (happy hour). We split a burger, which we ordered medium, but got more like rare. We didn’t say anything because we ate too much before we decided it was way undercooked. The fries we got with it were yummy and well seasoned, and the burger was actually pretty good, just undercooked. We’ll be back, we just wish we’d said something about the burger before we scarfed half of it down.

I stopped at this new restaurant on 1101 1^st Ave north called The Boundary Grille & Tavern. I ordered The Chicago Ribeye. I must say, it was the BEST ribeye I ever had. I also had the fried green tomatoes & topped it off with their delicious banana splitt. the portions were nice size. The service was great,
I defiantly recommend the place for good eating! Im already planning my next visit.

Ashley recommended that I come check out the new place in town. Let me just say this place did not disappoint. I was lucky enough to meet the chef and genius behind the menu. All I can tell you is our meals were amazing, so looking forward to coming back and trying the rest they have to offer.
We started with the spinach cakes (YUM), and I ordered the the Philly cheese steak (the meat was so tender) and mac & cheese. My guy ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Called a friend to meet us, she had the Fried Green tomatoes and veggie flat bread. All the dishes cooked to perfection.
Great location and layout to the place. Easy going relaxed atmosphere. We are already planning out next visit back. Thank you Ashley the recommendation.
