Oh, dear JoEllen! Now that The Globe has closed, your place will be sorely missed by many. Your «home» offered a quiet, mellow and friendly place to meet friends, play boards games, get your palm read, or quietly read. Great Luck to you JoEllen! See you around, downtown!

Friendly people seem to work and flock here. Wandered in late at night to wait around for someone, and ended up having a blast just ordering! Heavy on the crack — no, seriously, they will put chocolate-​covered espresso beans in anything you want! Over the course of the evening, and my eventual two or three separate entrances, I enjoyed a chai tea, mint brownie, and sangria. The chai was pretty much straight from the pre-​mix, the mint brownie was yummy but not wowza, and the sangria seemed whipped up from red wine and a few fruits, and was dusted with fresh cinnamon. Pee ess, it’s best to bring cash unless you plan on spending more than $ 8…I always find out the hard way. Ended up coming back with a group and staying until 2 am, playing board games and generally lounging like a gang of scruffy royalty across the mismatched, vintage furniture options. The place just feels like home — very inviting atmosphere that doesn’t seem rushed like chain coffeehouses, even when busy. The bathroom (well, at least the girls’ room) is like entering another entire building. Okay, rephrase — this place is like home’s large, yawning attic, there for your languid exploration between sips of coffee (which I will actually try next time). Good to have you in the world, Globe!

This cozy and dim lit café is a place to go in St. Petersburg if you’re looking for a chill session. They have a wide variety on their menu which serves drinks and good. A lot of chill citizens come here to just relax or have their chit chat.
It could be a little puzzling at first because it’s not like your typical Starbucks but you’ll get the hang of it. If you want a nice place to hang out early in the morning or late at night Come here!

Haha– I couldn’t find the counter– it felt like I had walked into an artists’ showroom.
SERVICE– Because of their artist community cult following, it’s easy to get overlooked by the small staff as they catch up to old friends walking in, but once the attention is on you– they drip helpfulness (hmm).
ATMOSPHERE– There’s enough décor to stare at as well as side goodies to purchase (jewelry, snacks, etc). Patrons can be very approachable to new blood. The dim lighting can lead to territory fights for those wanting a bright spot to read… but there’s enough places for the included board games.
COFFEE– Expect your typical Starbucks prices and sizes… but with bolder and creamier flavors. The chai’s cinnamon strength is still delicious even as time passes to the last, cold drop.

What a fabulous find! A fun, late night location, without the crazy bar crowds and with the ability to sit down and have a conversation! Terrific brownies, big enough to share (Ha! Share a brownie?!? That’s hilarious!!!), and a wonderful salmon burger! Yummy iced Chai drink, and I don’t even like Chai!
Here’s the skinny: Skip your Starbucks and head to The Globe.

I don’t always go to St Pete… but when I do, I really enjoy The Globe Coffee Lounge.
I’ll start off with this: If you are a coffee shop owner reading this, add coffee ice cubes to your iced coffee. The Globe is the only place I know does this and I think it is the perfect way to serve iced coffee.
The Globe serves food, coffee and beer/​wine.
I’ve only eaten there a couple times and the food has always been freshly prepared and good. The coffee, hot or cold is tasty — I drink it black without cream or sugar so it has to be a good flavored brew.
The coffee ice cubes? Again the best thing ever!
The décor is a hodgepodge of retro and garage sale and/​or craigslist furniture with barely two chairs matching that perfectly fits there.
Most of my visits have been mid afternoon using the WiFi while having coffee and/​or a Guinness.
Commuter Tip: If I have a St Pete event to attend after work I will usually drive over to the Globe mid afternoon to beat rush hour and get some work done before going off to the event sans traffic.
If you live in St Pete you have a gem, if you live in Tampa, be sure to visit.

So glad to find somewhere open late!
Definitely try the chai and ginger ale. Sounds weird, right? But interesting? It’s totally worth the try. It’s refreshing and lovely.
The brownies were great, and the guy behind the counter definitely pointed out which ones were «cakey» and which ones were «fudgier.» That is an important distinction for picky brownie eaters.
Didn’t love the salmon burger, but loved the place — would definitely go back and try something else.

Some things to expect if you visit The Globe:
1. There is a 1 item minimum. Overhead isn’t free, you’re required to at least buy a drink or a cookie.
2. This isn’t Starbucks, you’re encouraged to stay a spell.
3. When you go to the counter, you can see the fridge, the stirrers are spoons, and you automatically recieve your beverage in a real glass or mug.
4. Prices are similar to Starbucks. About $ 5 for a fancy drink.
The drinks are delightful, the atmosphere is inviting — no matter what age you are.
Whether you want to hang out and play games, study, write, read or socialize, this is a place to do it.
There’s really only 1 thing I don’t like about this place — they’re not open on Sundays which is our normal chillaxing and writing day.

Ok, so I’ve found a diamond in the rough. This place is thee perfect shabby sheek after hours chill spot. The service is great & the workers after personable & real chill. My favorite thing on their menu is a salmon burger. That beautiful concoction is a hidden merriment waiting to explode in your mouth. I’ve never had salmon that was so tasty & not fishy tasting. It was needless too say GREAT!!! :-) More than satisfied!

Cool place to relax on vintage couches and enjoy some WI-​FI.
I didn’t sample the food, but my friends had sandwiches they were all pleased with – The Sloppy Jo Ellen, a Portabella wrap, a Roast beef wrap and something else! Baked goods are available for your sweet toof.
The room feels like a kitschy living space with art smattered about hither and thither. Jo Ellen seems like a really nice lady. She’s doing good things in this space.

One of the earliest successful little hipster joints in the Burg, The Globe is one of those places that provides a great space with food and drinks and you provide the fun with your laptop or friends.
JoEllen is the owner, and also the longtime host of Art in Your Ear on WMNF. She makes a lot of the baked goods and food stuffs, and essentially IS the Globe. Get to know her, she’s the best.
I even remember going to a rave here with my ex-​wife in the earliest days of the Globe and running into Charlie Crist (when he was State Senator) with two amazingly hot babes — we were both surprised to see each other there. Good times.
The Globe is essential to why I like Downtown St Pete.

Oh, how I love The Globe! Friendly people, great atmosphere, open late, and most importantly, good food and drinks. This place is a real gem.

Really one of my favorite places to hang out and have conversation with friends or by myself. They have tons of board games if you want to play. The inside looks like it was furnished from yard sales and thrift shops. Very cheezy but I love the one baby blue couch, comfy place to have a read or chat. They have actual art for sale and I’ve seen some pretty impressive works from various artists.
Good coffee, tea and other things, great desserts and the food is actually good. Prices are not exactly cheap, but the ambiance and free wifi are good additions.

This is the type of coffee shop I have been looking for. Yes it’s not cheap. But the bohemian, chill atmosphere and free wifi is what I have been chasing. The coffee is good. I had a cold mocha latte, and it tasted like coffee, which seems to be a little much for a lot of these coffee shops to ask for. Say you want to change your coffee night in a beer night? They also have a small selection of beers to chose from.
I wish this place was closer to me, because I would come here so much.

Nice «artsy» coffee shop with free wifi. Good coffee. Chocolate cake was also good too. Nice friendly owner. True, the coffee/​food is not the cheapest…

Chintzy décor, chintzy coffee. Lots of retro furniture and ads at this place, but it all felt a little cheap and dirty instead of hip. The filter coffee was super weak and not so tasty. Skip it and go to Kahwa down the street.

Free wifi and board games. I love it.
The drinks are tiny and $$. They do not pour the mocha strong so if you are used to the chocolately goodness that is Starbucks, you might be disappointed.
The staff more then makes up for any short comings and there are always dessert sweets. I like to also get a sandwich and hang out for a few hours. But my drink along with the grilfriends is always over $ 11. yuck!

The Globe really is the «stereotypical artsy coffee house.» Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but that’s the best way to describe the inside and décor. There are magazines laying around, sofas that look like they were pulled off the street (or a grandparent’s house), and art on the walls with a price tag on it if you want to start or add to your collection.
I ordered lunch and a latte, and the pricing was up there with Starbucks (around $ 10 total). The coffee was okay, served in a ceramic mug, and they give you metal spoons if you want to add sugar (much better than paper cup and disposable stir-​stick). There was a string of customers in after me with a bunch of random, lengthy questions so the one guy working was delayed in getting lunch to me. I ordered chicken tacos, and they were just sort of –meh-​. I guess they were sitting around too long before they got to me.
Even though this experience was only so-​so, I plan on giving the Globe a second chance. I have a feeling it might have just been an off day, and I’ll revise my rating if that’s the case.

Oh how I love The Globe and I would come here everyday if I could.
Bohemian funky coffee house that offer’s more than just coffee. The lovely owner prepares some of the best coffee cakes and sweet treats. My favorite had to be the Krazy bars. They also have vegan meals, and homemade dinners on special nights.
Free wireless internet connection for customers. As well as fun and games throughout the coffee house. There’s a bookshelf with interesting books to peek through as well as board games and card games to borrow. Great music fills the air, from the local NPR stations to the Pixies or folk rock.
They also have special nights, from game nights, to tarot card reading, henna (tattoos that wash off in about a month), beer nights and live music. I’ve seen a few local acts play here that I now love.
You can smoke out back, and there’s a parking lot on the side. I live hundreds of miles away now, but I still frequently think about The Globe.
