History

Established in 1980.

We began as Hughes Upholstery in 1970’s in Thomasville, NC My parents, Gerald & Connie Hughes moved the family to Wbg, Virginia where my father continued the business. My parents relocated to Stafford, Va in 1980, and as Stafford grew so did Hughes Upholstery. We lost my dad to a heart attack in 1991, and the following year my mom to lung cancer. Thats where I come in. I am Judith May, Judy for short. I took over the family business in 1992 with the help of John, the master upholsterer my mom had hired after dads death.

In 1995 I decided to open the fabric store to go hand in hand with our upholstery services. That’s when J&J Upholstery and Drapery Fabric, Inc. was born and has grown to be one of the largest upholstery shops in our area. We have since added custom window treatments, custom bedding, custom order furniture to our list of products and services.

My experince starts when I watched my parents my whole life make old furniture look new. After I took over the company, I found some things came naturally to me. I call myself «the colorist» I put all your colors together to complete your home.

I specialize in window treatment design, to the point and can take a picture of your window from your room, put a window treatment on the window and put the fabric of your choice on the design for you to see.

I would love to create a room for you.
