College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving

My team of 3 arrived at 9:00 am and filled a truck within 40 minutes. They did not stop or take a break, just kept removing items and arranging them in the truck. I got a fair price and a diligent team who took all my anxiety away. It helps to have everything poised and ready for them — categorized as trash, donate, etc. Would definitely use them again and will recommend them to other estate executors and clutter clearance candidates.

So I book college Hunk Movers for my move and paid the $ 250 deposit, which I was told would be going towards the ($ 156.25 would be for the truck rental and travel fee and the moving fee). Never got an explanation to where the rest of my money went to, so I guessed it was going towards the actual move. There ETA was a window of 8−9am (stated on an e-​mail), the guys showed up at 10:30am. I had removed all the items on my own from my space as I had to leave my storage space around the time they had agreed to, making it for an easier move. I then get a quote from a mover and proceed to pay the actual move of $ 150 an hour plus some extra materials used during the move which they used to wrap one of my items. I then get a call from the owner Tom saying that they didn’t charge me enough, when in reality they had already kept some of my money from the original deposit that I never was told what it would be going towards. He spoke to my wife, who had been through an accident on that day due to the rush and late arrival of the move. He mentioned he didn’t care. I called the owner back and frustrated told him so, to be then called an a**hole by him. He proceeded to say that he would be coming after me as he wants his money. It is simple as being pleasant and being professional of arriving at the time you are to arrived and performing the work and actually charging the right amount for the move. The owner than said he would refund me the $ 75, to which I am still waiting for

Great experience. Easy to schedule, and for donations they will even take care of recycling your furniture if it can’t be donated. They showed up on time (actually early, after calling to see if that’s ok), and picked up our old couch with no problems.

I used the Connecticut branch of college hunks for a short in house move of furniture items that needed to be placed in the house from the garage. This was the second and final attempt of my utilizing them for their services. The first time they did not show up on time and today they did not show up at all! This is a poor excuse of a moving company and should be boycotted until they improve their service skills and workers that they hire to be professional. I will never use them again for anything and will never recommend them anyone as they are completely unprofessional and unreliable.

I used College Hunks to move apartments and I had one of the quickest and easiest moves. Not only were they on time, they sent 3 people to make the process go so smooth! I was out of my old place within an hour and finished with the whole moving process in less than 4 hours. The men were polite, careful and actually super cool to hang out with. I recommend the Hunks to anyone looking for an worry-​free move!

From the first call, until the crew left after completing the job, it really was stress-​free! Scheduling the move, getting the call that they were on the way, and completing the job all went off with out a hitch. Nice job! Would definitely use them again!

Just terrible. I booked a pick-​up with this company to prepare for a move. I needed my couch, a dresser, and 15 bags of clothes to be picked up and taken away. I scheduled them to arrive between 11am and 1 pm. After waiting around, I called the company at 1:15 pm because I hadn’t received a phone call from anyone (their website says that they will call you 20 – 30 minutes before they show up). The customer service woman I spoke to was very rude and not helpful. Eventually, I received a phone call from one of the movers, who explained that they were stuck in traffic after a «big job,» and told me that he could not give me an ETA. He hung up on me, and I tried to call back and got no answer. I had to call customer service back, a new woman who was also extremely rude and not helpful. Finally, the mover called me back and said that he would not be able to get to my apartment until 5 or 6 PM.
I honestly don’t understand how someone could be 6 – 7 hours late for a job. I would understand the circumstances if it was a few hours at the most. But 6 – 7 hours is just poor planning on the company’s part. They need to reevaluate how they book services because this is just very unprofessional. I wasted an entire day waiting for them and just ended up canceling because I started reading reviews saying the overcharge, and I just didn’t want to give them any of my money after they had been so rude.
Stay away. Just don’t even try. Not reliable. Other companies in the area are much more reputable, reliable, friendly, professional, and fairly priced.

If I could give negative stars I would. Beware of this company. You’d think trustworthy college kids would be doing this work trying to make some honest hard working money. Think not, the guys who showed up did not fit that description; not even close.
To start, they showed up two hours late. When they did arrive, they had no record of the discount promotional code I entered when making the the appointment online.
I got a funny feeling that things were a little askew when I observed that their estimate of item sizes was completely arbitrary and inflated. That size creates the cost. I decided to move ahead and let them proceed as I really just wanted the junk (a dresser and a disassembled crib) they were to move out of my house. I should have listened to my conscience.
The team scuffed a wall with the dresser going down the stairs because of laziness and lack of moving skills. The stairs are five feet wide, so space was not a factor. I pointed it out and one of the guys looked at the scuff and rubbed the stain into the freshly painted wall with his finger and said «sorry.» I figured they’d be more careful with the crib panels, but they scuffed my wall a second time because they decided to pass the items over a railing to a landing rather than walk the extra eight feet with items weighing less than 20 pounds. I pointed out the second round of damage to which I didn’t get a response.
They quickly drew up an invoice with no indication of damage on it once all item were on the truck. I asked what their policy was for the damage and was told I’d need to speak with a manager. I asked if I could speak to him by phone as I felt uncomfortable signing the invoice and paying in full. This is when things went from bad to worse.
The employee called his manager on his cell phone, told him I was not willing to pay, and handed it to me. I never said I wasn’t paying to be clear. I began to explain to the manager how the damage occurred, made the statement that the cost of painter coming out to repair the damage would be at least half of their fee, and before I could finish the employee was yelling at me and demanded his phone back. I was still trying to speak to his manager when the employee grabbed the phone out of my hand. He then informed me he was going to take the items off his truck and leave them in my driveway. I told him that was not an option and that if he came close to me again the police would be called. They left in a fit of rage but without any further issues.
After they left I called the 800 number and told the operator what happened. They said they’d need to contact the franchise manager and he’d call me to which I did not receive a call.

I believe I made an appointment online for them to remove about 10 bags and 2 boxes of clothing and shoes for a Good Will donation that needed to be collected that week. I did not know that the branch that they were going to send my request to was going to be based in Stamford, CT. This request was placed in March 2015 and they rescheduled for the next day since there was a snow storm that day. The appointment time was at approximately 1pm and they were more than a couple of hours late and I had to call them to track down what time they were expected to finally arrive. The two guys finally ended up showing up and were nice enough. I walked them inside since they had trouble finding my building and I escorted them upstairs to collect the items and downstairs and waited with the items while they loaded the truck. The pick up was in Chinatown in NYC it was a day after a snow storm and there were issues with parking but I had explained the parking situation prior. I was told that I would receive a donation slip but there was none provided. It was mailed later on after I filled an online survey about my experience. It was not the greatest experience but I needed the items for donation removed immediately and wanted the convenience of having someone come do it for so for that it was the most reasonably priced company after having done some research. Many nonprofits that accept clothing donations actually contract with other companies like College Hunks to do their pick ups. I was actually referred to them by one of those sites.

College Hunks did a very good job with moving a lot of heavy stuff from upstairs to downstairs when we were starting a renovation. The stuff they were moving was not especially valuable, nothing was really fragile. There were a few little bumps and bruises to furniture and walls, but seeing as we’re renovating where the bumps occurred, it didn’t matter. If you have valuable possessions or are very particular, you may need to give very precise instructions to avoid damage. But for hauling things and moving stuff around they were great, very polite and got the job done quickly. Once the snow melts here and my storage container comes, I’m having them come back to move the furniture and a ton of boxes into the storage container and I’ll be very glad for their help.

Great job! I needed to get rid of two old trailers and some other equipment that had past its normal life. The guys showed up and were able to fit all of this ‘junk’ in one load. And, they did it quickly and safely. Thanks!

We filled out an insurance claim with The guys that moved us that day but have not heard from the company at all
We’ve called multiple times they are not calling back
I understand there’s normal wear and tear with a move but this was absolute disregard for any of our belongings

Found them online. They were here same day and hauled away everything we asked them too. Two guys were able to remove an old sub zero and a whole lot of tiles among other things. Very courteous and took great care to make sure nothing in the house was damaged. I will be using them again if I have junk to haul off!
