Frost Amphitheatre

This has to be one of my favorite concert venues! I loved the vibe of the theater from the get go. Tons of leveled grass seating, and lined by beautiful trees. I loved how we were able to bring in food, and picnic during our concert. The lines to all the restrooms were of course super long, but they had portapotties everywhere which was super convenient! Would love to come to a concert here again.

Frost Amphitheater is a beautiful setting for an afternoon concert. I have been here both for the annual Frost Music and Arts Festival and Stanford’s yearly Admit Weekend A Cappella Concert. It has plenty of trees to insulate the sound, a nice, smooth rake to the seating area (which can hold about 5K people), and ample stage area for the performers (who must be prepared to bring in their own sound systems and equipment). It’s a shame it is so expensive for student groups to use the venue, as well as that the venue can only be used during the day (for noise level constraints). Therefore, if you get a chance to attend a concert here, do it while you have the chance!

Gorgeous, exquisite, tree-​lined venue for music, like the recent MGMT concert, with a large, expansive, beautifully maintained, gently sloping, grass/​concrete-​terraced amphitheatre.
Certain nooks here and there get some degree of shade, and you can generally bring in food, bottled water, sunscreen, and other personal supplies after a a quick search. Parking is very convenient as there are campus lots all around, the facilities are clean and modern, and the staff here pleasant, friendly, and helpful.

Came in yesterday with a friend for the 2013 Multicultural Springfest. Great space for an event and Stanford put on a great one here. All kinds of art and performances from various countries and all the food was catered for free. Like walking up the little path and into this nice, semi-​hidden space. It’s huge too and perfect on a nice, sunny day. Would definitely return if there’s an act that sparks my interest.

Came here for Frost Music Festival 2013, featuring MGMT and Delorean. Parking was full in the lot immediately next door, but there was plenty of parking closer to Cantor.
The theater layout was good with plenty of grass for people to set up blankets for seating. The tiered heights also helped with view, although I decided to go up to the barrier for MGMT.

I like the idea behind Frost, and the actual performance space is great, but they ran out of water at this year’s Frost event! Considering they make you dump out your Nalgenes when you come in, and keeping in mind how hot it was out there, this seemed like a really dangerous thing. Plus a wheel off my fiancé’s bike got stolen here!
I’d come back because the hill and the stage are so great, and because they usually have fantastic performers in the spring… but I wouldn’t park my bike here, and I’d make sure to buy many sealed gallons of water!

Frost is a neat little amphitheater that hosts some cool events every once and awhile.
Unfortunately for me, being outdoors, this leads to events only happening in the spring time. Which has always led to a miserable experience for me between my seasonal spring allergies and the mosquitos.

Frost is once again open for music events.
Just a classic setting for a warm weather show.
Came for Modest Mouse and the fact the place was having an event after many years of being closed. Students did nice job of keeping the crowd small. Lots of room for a blanket and stretch. Civilized crowd of students and locals out for a relaxing day of music in the sun. There are plenty of trees for the shade. The lawn is well kept. Bathroom clean and nearby. Food stands as well. Parking is a short 5 minute walk.
And yes I too have fond memories of the Dead and Clapton and many other Dad rock shows at Frost in the 70’s and 80’s. But ain’t going the rest on those laurels… very glad to have Frost back.
If you have a chance, go and enjoy the timeless simplicity an afternoon in a classical amphitheater. Few things better. Thanks Stanford!

Attended a concert in the venue, it was awesome. Make sure to bring a blanket and some bug spray (in case of mosquitos). Nice stage and it’s easy to see whoever is performing from the whole place. The most difficult thing is trying to find when Frost is open, but it totally rocks.

Nestled in the midst of tall oak and redwood trees, Frost Ampitheatre is a hidden gem on Stanford Campus with comfortable grassy seating and great acoustics. Family friendly, yet romantic if you choose. Cuddling up while listening to some bad salads (what Seal calls sad balads lol) are the best.

Great outdoor venue. Perfect for a family style outing. I took my dad here to see Kenny Loggins with some family/​friends. Terraced, grassy ‘seating’ just begs for a picnic blanket to be spread out over it. Like other people point out, this place is really underutilized. Why aren’t there more concerts here? Damn it, why did all the good stuff have to stop right when I moved in next door?

This place used to be THE PLACE to go to a concert because it had everything, a great stage, great seating, incredible parking, just the best but since Stanford went corporate a few years ago it doesn’t hold many shows any more.
The Dead used to play here every year and it was quite the scene but Stanford put the kibosh on anything fun anymore.
Now the only way to get in to see Frost is to go for a graduation but if you don’t know anybody why?
It is too bad because this could really be a cool place to see outdoor shows. I am giving it 5 stars for the memories and the potential but those days are gone forever in the memories of those who were there.

Great little amphitheatre which I wish they’d use for more current concerts. Saw Big Bad Voodoo Daddy a few years back play before 4^th of July. Pasking is a pain the way it’s organized for events but it’s quite a nice venue and is seemingly underutilized.

It’s no Greek Theater, but it will do (Go Bears!).
Frost Amphitheatre is actually a cool place — can’t comment on the live music acoustics because I was there for a graduation but it’s definitely scenic. The grassy seating is probably more appropriate for a concert but there were chairs set up on the tiers and at the bottom for the graduation. Just about every seat is good… unless you are trying to stay under the tree’s shade (boy, can it get hot there) — the seats on the very edges are not so great for viewing.
The one thing that is tough about this venue is that it makes it difficult for elderly or handicapped people to get around. There is a «ramp» of sorts on the sides, but the incline is so steep (and there is no handrail) that most people who would have problems with the stairs would have problems with the «ramp».

Man, I don’t even know if they still put on shows here, but over the years, there has been some epic ones here. The Grateful Dead used to play Frost every year for a long time until the campus police couldn’t deal with the lot scene in the eucalyptus grove anymore.
KFOG did a show here in the mid-​90s which was a blast. This is a very scenic grassy bowl with lots of trees draping over the fences. I think it’s a bit out-​dated in terms of bathrooms and catering and such, but if you ever get a chance to see a daytime show at Frost, pack up a picnic and bring a blanket, some sunscreen and your shades and enjoy.
