Specialties

We specialize in building «green» cabins, cabins that are friendly to the Earth and that don’t require the use of running water or electricity. We have one cabin like this with another one nearly complete, and we will continue to build more like this. However, don’t worry If you’re an electricity person– most of our cabins have electricity and running water.

Red River Gorgeous Wilderness Cabin Retreat has been renting cabins in the Red River Gorge geological area for over 20 years. We are committed to the enjoyment and preservation of this beautiful corner of the planet. If you love hiking, climbing, biking, and nature, we have a Red River Gorgeous Cabin waiting just for you. The picture above is actually taken from one of the cliff lines along our trails.

History

Established in 1994.

Uncle Dan was a forest ranger for the U.S. Forest Service and lived in Red River Gorge, KY. He built a private cabin and lived on 33 acres of private property within the Daniel Boone National Forest. Eventually he got married and moved out of the cabin. When he did move, he kept the cabin in in the family rather than selling it. The family decided to start a business, and his other brothers and sisters help to build more cabins. This way, everyone could experience the natural beauty and peace of the area that Dan had once experienced.

Today, the business continues to be family run. White Pines is the original cabin. Come and stay for a personal, family, or spiritual retreat. We guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

Meet the Manager

Aaron D.

Manager

Aaron Dourson is kind of a jack of all trades. He is part owner and manager. He knows several great climbing routes and fantastic swimming holes in the Gorge. He knows the location of the grocery store, drive-in movie theater, and Miguel’s. He also knows how to cook a mean pancake.

But perhaps what’s most important is that he designed and built the Backcountry Shelter, which is our first «green» cabin. He tries to recycle old materials and incorporate them into his designs. Don’t be surprised if you see a window or brick that was being thrown out from your old school.

«Miguel’s quite possibly has the best pizza in the Gorge.»
