Brian Michaels was one of the best places to stop and eat hands down. Unfortunately, it seems they’ve shut down for unknown reasons and I’m sure there is a huge following hoping they come back into business. The burgers have always been huge and flavorful, and are sandwiched between two semi-sweet Hawaiian roll type of buns. The Philly cheesesteak is also excellent and they usually pack on the meat.

Starkville, Mississippi: land of the bulldog. «Bully» to be exact. Home to Mississippi State University and all of the perks(and pitfalls) that go along with being a college town. All those kids need somewhere to hang out and eat right? I mean, you can’t expect them to eat cafeteria food for 6 years! Ok, maybe some of these youngsters can get out in 4 years, but I’m a slow learner. When in Starkville… well… just like in any city… you pig out. Brian Michaels is the perfect place to do so. Anchoring the end of a small strip mall on the edge of town, Brian Michaels stands as a beacon to all those craving real food amidst the Mississippi countryside. Not just real food, real GOOD food. Just be sure to check your veggie card at the door. Outside of the fried pickles and mushrooms(which are both excellent BTW), there will be some sort of meat involved. Picture a New York deli, a greasy burger joint and a butcher shop all rolled into one. Yes, you can get your dinner steaks trimmed off the carcass that was recently grazing in a nearby field all while you wait in line for lunch. Only in the country. Burger, amazing. Philly cheese steak, even more amazing. Pastrami, no, that might be just a little too delightful.

Mmmm… Really good big-olé sandwiches. Solid service. The philly cheese steak is monsterous. Some of the items are a tad overpriced.

I don’t usually go out of my way to write bad reviews, but this one is just necessary. First of all, the guy at the counter,(dont know his name because he didn’t introduce himself, instead too busy watching the t. v) was a smartass. I had never been to the restaurant before and asked kindly, «what is the popular item you sell here.» He replies, «burgers» well ill be damned, its a burger joint id figure that much! anyway, so besides the guy’s attitude the food was lacking. I got the Italiano Submariner, which was totally loaded with meat(thank you), but not much of a sandwich, i had to make my own sandwich from the meat when i got home. Secondly, after his snide remark about it being a burger joint and all that, my friend opted for the regular burger. Make that a cheeseburger for an extra fee, where they kindly put a kraft singles cheese slice, the burger came back looking terribly overcooked, dry and small. Now if you can live with crappy overpriced food, and even crappy attitude at the counter, wait till you hear this! So as i was checking out, a piece of paper caught my eye that had been notarized and signed my the branch owner and whole slew of people, saying, «We support our Military.» The paper was printed on watermarked paper, notarized and signed by some big shots and taped up to the fridge next to the counter where you check out. Now, me being an ACTIVEMILITARY(USN) person, i asked for an military discount. i normally dont asked, but it was Sept. 11 and the TENYEARANNIVERSARY of the attack, and i figured why not. I was told, «Im sorry we dont do that here.» I looked at him and laughed in disbelief, «sir, have you read this piece of paper?» he says, «Yeah, i dont even know what that is.» Needless to say i was furious, i paid and left. I became even more mad when i saw what i had just spent 10 dollars on. My advise to the company, take that paper down, you obviously do not support our troops, and saying that to get business is about the lowest you can go, especially on a day like that. You should be absolutely ASHAMED of yourself!

Great food and great service. You can’t beat this place. Get in, get a plate lunch or order offer the menu, and get out. Nothing fancy. Just amazing food at decent prices and always a friendly worker to take care of you. I recommend this place for a quick meal over any other place in Starkville. I probably go once a week.

For $ 3 you can get a Mugshot’s size burger that taste better to me. Although the cheese is over a dollar which seems a little pricey. The worst part for me is that there isn’t refills for drinks, which is why I gave this one 4 stars.
