I love Designer’s Denn! I’ve been coming here for 4 years now and absolutely love it. All of the employees are great and the services are really top notch. I have been waxing with Chloe who is amazing and she also did my makeup for Halloween and I got a ton of compliments. The nail services are great as well I’ve gotten both acrylics and gel manicures with Erin and she is wonderful. Definitely stop by!

Designer’s Denn is incredible. Chloe has been waxing my eyebrows for a few years and I have always walked away extremely pleased with the results. She is professional and kind, just like every other employee I’ve interacted with. I appreciate that DD goes the extra mile for their guests and it feels like a mini vacation in my day. They have a wonderful variety of excellent products. I would recommend DD unreservedly to anyone.

GREAT customer service. All the employees are so friendly and helpful. I’ve seen the owner a few times and she seems some what grouchy for some reason but everyone I have worked with has been nothing but cheerful, polite, and professional. I have had excellent massages, pedicures, manicures, full sets, waxes and facials here! I got lash extensions and I wasn’t very impressed, I definitely have had better and they were more than 300 $ :/​. However, every other service I have had has been spectacular! You are immediately greeted once you walk in and they will get you whatever you are wanting to drink. Zoe, who has both given me a microdermabrasion and waxed my eyebrows is so sweet and did a fabulous job with both of my services! She also tells you important facts and tips to keep your skin healthy. Overall great place with only outstanding employees.

I love this salon. I get my nails done here on occasion but always get waxed. Zoe is excellent and very knowledagble. They look at what kind of skin type you have and match the wax accordingly. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the staff knows their stuff. I definitely reccomend Designer’s Den for any waxing adventure.

I have been coming to Designer’s Denn for the past six months for massages. I was having some neck and shoulder issues and Jen B. got me back onto the path of feeling great again. Every time I come in for my appointment Jen checks to see how I’ve felt since the last massage and if there is anything else that is bothering me that she should focus on. I will continue to see Jen for my massages and have also booked other services since I like the atmosphere here so much.

What I love about designers den is that they are so flexible. I have called them last minute requesting a nail appointment many times and each time they accommodate me. As a returning patron here you gets points for each appointment and for suggesting friends too. Also when i got my gelish done it chipped a day later and i called them and they were more than happy to fix it for me, free of charge. I think there was on one time that my appointment was late.

I am rarely moved to write Unilocal reviews, but in this case, I was so impressed with the quality of service at Designer’s Denn that I couldn’t believe that I had lived in State College for four years and was only hearing about them now. I was given a massage there as a gift and was so pleasantly surprised when I arrived and was ushered into a luxurious locker room and then to «the quiet room» with a hot wrap before my massage to relax. The massage itself was wonderful, and afterwards I was allowed to stay as long as I wanted to take a steam bath, a shower and then they had everything I needed to get ready to go back to the office. This will be my go-​to place to treat myself in the future. Compared to other spas I have been to, I think the value is unbelievable.

I’ve been coming to DD for six years now. Every service I’ve ever had has been top-​notch, and the extra touches make the place worth the money. On a typical visit, you are greeted by one of the friendly counter people (they know me and many others by name) and offered a beverage while you wait. You also change into a robe any time you get a service done, which just adds to the spa feel, even on the hair salon side.
They do tend to push products, but again, I’ve always been satisfied with everything I’ve bought here, and the one time I wasn’t they were happy to let me trade it in for something else. They carry Bumble and Bumble, Decleor, Bare Minerals, and Dermalogica, among others.
I’ve seen other reviews complain about prices, but I shopped around the first time I got a haircut and paid the same amount for a worse cut. If you’re cash strapped, ask the front desk about modeling opportunities (free haircuts and discounted services) or choose a stylist that isn’t at the master level yet. They always have someone more advanced check their work, so you’re still getting the same service.
Bottom line: For the marginally higher costs, you’re getting a full salon experience. I highly recommend Designer’s Denn for waxing, haircuts, massages, pedicures, and manicures.

I’ve come here once for a massage. I was visiting my parents and had some pretty severe back pain. I couldn’t get into my chiropractor because he didn’t take my insurance so I decided to come here for a deep tissue.
I was easily able to get an appointment because PSU had let out for summer and was booked with a woman named Amanda.
Being in the pain I was in, I really didn’t care if I was slapped on a wooden board and kneaded but I was quite surprised how this salon really goes above and beyond to give you a luxury spa experience (not that I’m complaining).
There is a special locker room for your belongings and you get slippers and robe. At first you are ushered into a room with couches and pillows. There are nuts on the table and you are offered water. Kinda cool!
After a bit in this room Amanda took me to the massage table. I told her where I was hurting and she made the point to work on those areas. While talking with her, I came to find out how much she cared about massage and was very knowledgeable overall. I have never had a masseuse be so enthusiastic about her job and really care about my comfort. This woman LOVED her job. She pointed out a lot of interesting things about my muscles and spine. Some of her comments made more sense later on when I was diagnosed with scoliosis.
When the hour was up, I got to sit in the room with the couches again feeling pretty blown away about how awesome the service was.
My experience her was beyond words. This salon better treat Amanda well because she made created a very happy customer (and certainly not the first). I do in fact recommend her if anyone consults me in State College and well as recommend her on Unilocal

I stopped into Designer’s Denn when I moved to State College, Pa. I was looking for a place to find high-​end make-​up without having to drive to Altoona, Pa. A friend recomended I check out this place. The staff was extremely knowledageble about the products and helped me find the right shades for my complexion.; They sale Jane Iredale make-​up which is a little pricy but works wonderfuly.
A few weeks later I decided to stop in for a hair cut, and it came out great! I was very satisfied with the service. Crystal, listened very carefully to my wants and concerns and gave me the exact cut I was looking for.
Some people have made some comments about the price, However, I feel it is equivelant to any other higher end salon.

I started going to Designer’s Denn because one of my wedding clients gave me a gift certificate. I’ve been there probably a dozen times now and I love it! Haircuts can be hit or miss, so when you find the right person you’ve got to stick with him/​her. In my experience it’s like that anywhere you go. It’s nice to be able to have my hair colored without double/​triple/​quadruple-​processing the old hair like other places do. They dye the roots and then glaze the rest to match. My favorite service so far is the MEGAPEEL. It feels great to have your gross old skin blasted off! I had a nasty brown age spot that is almost gone after 4 peels. Lizandra is such a sweet woman and she really knows what she is doing. The relaxation room is a nice touch, and the cucumber water is the best. It would be nice if they had more magazines to look at.

I have been there twice and their service was not the best considering how much they charge :/

Designer’s Denn was the first to introduce me to ”hard wax”. Personally it seems less painful and I’m told it’s better for your skin and perhaps less ingrown hairs (?).
The salon is located in the heart of downtown State College. Parking is basically limited but there are meters on the side or a parking garage nearby.
I’ve never gotten my hair done here but it always looks fairly busy with people coming in and out for hair services.
I did find it hard to get an appointment on short notice but otherwise, I’ve never had any problems with the service here.

When I moved here to State College I left the hustle and bustle, the movement, the convenience, the narrow streets of Philly to start my new life as a Penn State grad student. Luckilly, thanks to my experience at Designers Denn I still have hair options.
I arrived for my haircut appointment with Barb, a person with a lot of personality and clearly loves what she does. As a stylist she has meticulous execution and possesses scientific knowledge of hair, which I imagine would help her work with a diverse clientele. I described to her the layered look I wanted to achieve and the ending result was beautifully proportioned. The only miiiinor qualm I had about the experience was that the blow dry was a little humdrum, as there may have been a little too much product used.
The color team at this salon is top notch, even by big city standards. I really liked Jesse (? red curly hair). To begin my transition from a summer to fall look I requested ombré-​styled highlights, a newer technique introduced by celebrity stylists and recessionistas. Being open to more creative color opportunities, my colorist embraced the idea. I really appreciated how she involved other team members during the process and how it was clear she was evaluating her work as it developed. I love the results. Silly me for worrying!
The salon also has a great selection of high end products: B&B, Decleor, etc. In my opinion for State College the prices are upscale, but again they are moderate compared to more urban areas.

I have been coming to Designer’s Den (Specifically to Samantha) for upwards of four years now; it reminded me of my salon back home, and I loved that about it. I have never been disappointed with a single cut or color, and the recommendation of products for my hair have been outstanding. My two pedicures here were beautifully done and very relaxing. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone and everyone!

I was impressed with the girl who did my makeup-​Lizandra. She was awesome! She was sweet, attentive, talented, accomodating. She made me look so beautiful and the makeup lasted all day. I would come back to see Lizandra.

After giving Designer’s Denn another try, I am definitely more satisfied. My haircut turned out great and everyone was very helpful. I enjoyed being able to order a cappucino! while I was waiting for my haircut. However, I’m still not sure if the price is worth it, but it’s probably the best you’ll get in State College.

I have been back here every so often and want to find a reason to love this place. But so far, it’s just a-​ok. The staff here is nice and I have had pleasant encounters with just about everyone that I have met. friendly and professional.
My latest visit here was in July for a manicure and pedicure. A fabulous job on my tired feet. A relaxing place to have a pedicure. My manicure was okay. I can’t remember the breakdown of the pricing, but the total before tip was $ 51.
I had my hair cut here on several occasions and think they do an okay job and are attentive. However, I think that they have little experience with my hair type. Not any fault of theirs, but just the natural cause and effect since it appears that very few Asians frequent this place.

Not the service you would expect. I had damaged hair and badly needed a cut, and went to Designer’s Denn for help. I was told I needed a consultation from Barb… what a joke. She was rude and pushy and actually tore a 1″ wide chunk out of my hair to illustrate the damage (which I was aware of, as it was the reason I came in the first place). She used her expertise to determine I needed a cut, which I scheduled for a later date. I was so offended I would have not returned if I didn’t need a cut so badly. Fortunatly, Heather did a wonderful job on my haircut, she was kind and talented. I feel like this place was hit or miss… I went in for color at another date and ended up covered in dye. I won’t go back… I enjoy spending time in a quiet salon drinking tea, not dealing with a noisy place and disorganized and sometimes rude staff.

I got a free hair cut get here once as a hair model for a junior stylist. It was great. She took her time and really listened and it was one of the best cuts I had in a long time.
A little surprising, while we were there some lady had moved from the area to Reading (2.5 hours away) and was still driving up to State College to get her hair cut!
