. Don’t come here if your looking for great service or food. Went with my sister and our waitress didn’t pick up any of our dishes. The food was cold and my sisters shrimp was raw. Waitress never asked how our food was or if we wanted refills. Had to try to get almost 5 people’s attention before someone fixed her shrimp. Won’t be coming again.

Horrid. In every possible way, this restaurant is the worst I’ve ever had the displeasure of experiencing. From the west coast to the east coast, and all of the places I’ve been to in-between, nothing else compares to the total lack of both food quality and customer service that completely poisons Hoss’s and its entire existence in State College. Improperly cooked food, improperly prepared food, unappetizing plating(and metal plates), gross salad bar, and dirty dining tables with even more disgusting floors. If I wasn’t already sick from the dining area, I’d be sick from the food.

Food was good. The salad, soup, and dessert bar are well worth the price. There are entrée options, they are ok. I prefer to just get the soup and salad bar.

This is the kind of place that you wonder how is still running. We were invited by a friend to meet his son in this restaurant. We ordered the food, they took 50 mins aprox. to bring it. When finally arrived, the waitress said the kitchen mess it up. My fish was cold, the broccoli had no taste. The burger was not so okay, and the bread was hard. The sirloin was too dry, we ordered raw and it was served medium term. The crispy chicken was nothing out of the extraordinary. The waitress smily, but this positive thing won’t make me go back to this restaurant ever. It is not a place I recommend.

I gave this place 3 stars because it’s really what you would expect from a place like this. The experienced OK but it’s just nothing special in terms of food.

Eating at Hoss is equivalent to eating at a poorly managed homeless shelter. Nevertheless, you get what you paid for. For about $ 50, my wife and I ate the surf and turf plate, which includes a crab cake or ribeye and the the salad bar. The ribeye was over cooked and extremely greasy. To make matters worse, the salad bar looked unsanitary and the food there was tasteless. It didn’t help that several customers were coughing around the food and kids were grabbing food left and right. Sadly, McDonald’s does a better job in food quality than this joint. If you decide to eat here, don’t forget to bring pepto-bismol.

For what a Hoss’ is — a family buffet with a casual atmosphere — this was great. Food was good, service great.

Always have very good service and love the buffet. Meals are always a hit or miss weather they are good or not. I recommend tips, chicken fillets

Awful food complied with even worse service made this visit unbearable. I am not expecting much. Just a clean table and decent service. The food was undercooked and gross. When we asked the wait staff for an extra plate she told us she was too busy that we could get one ourselves up at the salad bar. The plates stacked up about 5 – 6 high before we had to ask another server to take them away.

The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the condition of the lettuce at the salad bar. I’ll start there. The lettuce was fresh but it was wet. It was rinsed and just put out. They need to use a salad spinner or dry it a little bit. My plate had water on it! Aside from that, the service was good and the food was good. When I come here, I usually don’t get a meal, only the salad bar. There’s enough there to satisfy me. There’s salad, a main course, and dessert. I hate the way the food ordering is set up. I’d rather get a menu and sit down at my table so I have time to think about what I want.

I’ve always liked the flat iron steak at Hoss’s, but today we just went in for lunch, so salad bar all around. You can’t beat the deal of getting a much soup and salad AND dessert as you want for only$ 4.99!!! Today’s featured soup was ham put pie. Yum! When we walked in, we ordered and were sat immediately, and our drinks were at our table when we finished getting out food. Our server was Shawnees. Very pleasant, cheerful, and prompt at fulfilling requests and getting refills. She was also very attentive at cleared our used plates and such in a timely manner. The General Manager Jason even came over to ask us about our dinners Overall, an excellent dining experience.

It’s ok for a quick lunch, the menu is pretty good. The way customers have to order is just plain stupid. The salad bar isn’t that great, not worth it.

Where to start… When I was a kid, Hoss’s was THE place to eat. You couldn’t find a better meal for your money… Now? Not so much. First, the price. 13.99 $ for a 6 oz. steak. That is 4 $ more than Outback! I was amazed how much more expensive it was compared to other restaurants in the area. Their salad bar was okay, soups and desserts were okay. They still had the fresh Garlic Bread which was very good! The place is in desperate need of a remodel. My steak tips were very good, but at 12.99 $ for 8 of them, they should be. The reason why it got 3 stars instead of 2, was because we had an excellent server! Plus everyone who you did see were very pleasant. So, to sum it up, good food, small portions, high price, awesome staff.

Great place for a good meal. Homemade soups and fresh made bread. Steak tips are always very tasty. Well worth a trip to Hoss’s

I usually try to find some positive angle on a place. I’m finding it tough with this one. The biggest plus is the fact that a soup, salad and dessert bar exists within its four walls. But thats it. It exists. Usually I’ll take advantage of something like that, but I didn’t here. Its the kind of place where the pudding, cake and cookies all somehow taste the same. Not a great value. The food was forgettable. Atmosphere was somewhat dead.

I have mixed reaction as for this restaurant. I always see HOSS packed with customers every evening I drive along North Atherton St. I became curious and asked my friends if they wanted to try this steak house. I mean, if a restaurant is always packed at evening time during weekdays and weekend, it must be at least a decent restaurant, that can keep customers coming for more. So, yesterday I called Hoss and reserved a table for 12 persons party at 7pm. They said okay and we arrived there around 7.05pm. There was a line from the entrance to the counter where the waitresses seated the patrons. I arrived with 12 persons party and since I was the one placed the reservation, I went ahead and slipped my way to the front of the line to talk with the person in charge about my reservation. They said that they already had the table ready, but we still had to wait in line since they wouldn’t be able to bring all of us from the back all the way to the front. Okay, so what was the point for me to make a reservation? Finally we got to the front of the line after around 20 minutes of waiting. Apparently they implemented the weirdest system ever for patrons in their restaurant. So, you wait in line. Once you arrive to the entrance counter, you will have to choose what you want to order. Once you order, you will be seated. No, you won’t pay at the counter. You will pay at the table. Weird? that’s what I thought. What about if we decide to change our order? Or if we want to add orders? I don’t understand. They deliberately implement this system for a reason unknown to us. So if you place a reservation, they will reserve the table for you, but you still have to wait in line because that’s how you will order your food. Now, the price is ok for a steak house. It is decently priced. The good thing is the salad bar and dessert buffet. Yeap, it is included with the main course you order. You can help yourself for unlimited serving of salads, soups, and dessert. The quality and freshness of the salad was not top-notch when I came there, but it was still okay. 7⁄10 rating. It had a lot of variation and they have 4 varieties of soup. The best thing was their freshly oven-baked garlic bread treat. The main course was okay. it was served in timely manner. I ordered medium-well Cleaver cut steak with onion rings. It was kinda overcooked. But, it was not well-done, so I didn’t really complain. Their onion rings was bad though, kinda soggy and I just had 2 pieces of them. The steak tasted pretty good, 7.5÷10 rating for me. If I were to ever come back, I will just order medium or medium rare though. One of my friends ordered rare, but got a well-done. The waitress asked if he wanted the steak replaced, but my friend refused since he didn’t want to wait longer. The well-done steak was bad, very hard, so my friend didn’t finish it. Another of my friends ordered a medium-well, but he also thought that it was overcooked. He didn’t want to complain and just ate it. Overall, it is not a restaurant I would be a fan of. It was just a once-in-a-lifetime restaurant for you to try. You would either love it, or hate it.

This place is just disgusting. I came here once because there was too long of a wait at Texas Roadhouse. The meat tasted like blood, which is probably because the meat was starting to turn. The salad at the salad bar was starting to turn brown and the baked potato was overcooked. Even for State College, I am enthusiastic to give this place one star. It is possibly one of the worst places I have ever been to.
