We were looking to dine before heading to Eisenhower Auditorium for a CFTPA show on a Saturday night. We decided on this place based on word-of-mouth from people we know. The place is roomy, they could probably fit more table and seats, but we liked not feeling crowded. However, perhaps more seating and people would have warmed the place up a little more. We did not remove our coats during our whole visit, it was cold in there. We started with fried pickles which were good. Definitely a good choice if you’d like to try them, but we have had better at other restaurants. We both had Mad Man Burgers with fries. The burgers were ok and we could tell that the fries could be incredible because of the seasoning, but they were not enjoyable this time because went cold fast. it wasn’t a bad experience, but it also did not earn a fourth star on this visit. I won’t count this place out, so maybe next time.

Love this place. Can be inconsistent with their kitchen service but a conscientious staff will compensate(will waive charges) if they fall short.

Service is great, beer is great, but the food is just very average. I felt that I definitely over paid for the food, I honestly think I can get much better food at Danny’s for much less money!

It’s been hit or miss in my experiences at Westside. They’re usually so empty they don’t seem to know what to do when it does get a little busy. By busy I’m talking a few empty tables & room at the bar. They have an ok beer selection & a takeout cooler. Outdoor seating is nice but sometimes turns into the staff hangout. Food slow to arrive but good.

Oy. This was another one of those cases where I was so excited over the menu, but the execution was just poor. From the service to the food, I wasn’t okay with any of it. I dropped in here with my Dad and one other in mid road tripping to fuel up for our three hour ride home. The inside of the place was comfortable and decorated nicely. Those things don’t often influence by final decision on review though. The menu had a lot of really great choices. I had a little trouble deciding what I was going to get, that’s how awesome everything sounded. I thought I had found State College food heaven. I was looking forward to it. Our waitress was distant, cold, inattentive, but I was still looking forward to the food. I decided to go for a burger. I very rarely get burgers unless I feel like it’ll be a good experience. My burger was to be covered in fried onions, provolone, and served with a side of au jus for dipping. This burger would also be on a homemade roll, accompanied by homemade kettle chips. My dad ordered the crab alfredo mac, our counterpart ordering buffalo chicken mac and cheese. After we ordered, we waited a long time for our food. We also didn’t see our waitress until the food was brought out. Two out of three of our orders were right. Our buffalo chicken mac and cheese was delivered as a chicken wrap. I probably would have taken it if it were my order instead of waiting, but it’s not what our friend wanted. He was cool about it, but she wasn’t. She looked annoyed and kind of looked at him like he was supposed to just take that instead… but he apologized and asked if he could have what he ordered. Meanwhile… My burger was just not good. It was a thin patty that tasted like it came frozen out of a box. Huge let down. I had also asked for my burger medium. I don’t throw fits if it’s cooked a little more or a little less, but this thing was WAY over cooked. I drowned it in the au jus to make up for it. That and the fact that the roll was stale. The chips were just okay. The best thing on my plate was that little bit of au jus. I tried my Dad’s crab alfredo, which was just okay. It didn’t really have any flavor and it came out at room temperature. After we finished eating… our third wheel still hadn’t gotten his food. We also didn’t see our waitress one time in the middle of any of this. Upon the food finally arriving, he was not impressed. He didn’t even finish it and it was a small portion. I gave it a taste, and there was something weird about it. It was also super greasy. There was a pool of grease sitting on top of the whole thing. There was also like… two small pieces of chicken. It wasn’t good. We waited even longer to ask for a check and my Dad told her to take his card right away. She came back without a pen. The whole experience was long and annoying. The aftermath was okay, except we had to make a pretty epic bathroom stops. Our buffalo mac buddy was experiencing some serious stomach issues on the way home, which we could only equate to what he ate. He ended up sitting on the toilet for the next day and a half practically. My Dad and I also weren’t feeling too well. Our common thread was eating here. No thanks to this place. Skip it.

Brought my 40+ baseball team there after a game and it was a terrible experience. Our waitress disappeared for long periods of time. She was not busy serving other tables, just out of sight. The bartender would look at our table and then go in the back and beckon her. Felt like we were being held hostage. Never again.

Awesome bar that has steel tip darts and awesome food from the pepperoni roll to the Cuban pretzel sandwich to the pork anything! Holly was a great bartender and it was an all around pleasant surprise for a bar!

Stopped on a Monday night. Very dead. Bartender wasnt to enthused to serve anything. More interested in her phone. Ordered fish and chips. The tartar sauce was really good. More than just mayo and relish. Homemade fries were nice and crispy. Now the battered fish on the other hand, it had no flavor, and the breading was falling off. Makes no sense? It was almost like they didn’t dip the fish in flour before they battered it. It was pretty disgusting. I won’t order again.

I find Westside never too busy and convenient. The service has been good along with the beer selection. Currently hooked on the nachos add pork!

I’ve been to the Westside once or twice for lunch in the last six months or so. My understanding is that the style of the restaurant, including its menu, has recently undergone a change. Whereas it used to be a neighborhood, pseudo-blue-collar watering hole, it has become another pub, with a reduced but entrée-focused menu. I thought the food was good and reasonably priced, the beer selection a bit more limited than average, and the service quite down to earth in a good way.

Sunday brunch is fantastic. I’ve been going for years for the house salads alone. Great beer selection, great service, and constantly improving anything they can think of.

Service was excellent… And the beer was cold. Cannot complain about that, keep up the good work there. The menu was substantially reduced and prices have increased without a noticeable change in quality. This used to be a great neighborhood sports bar for post-game celebrations… Not so sure now. Hope to see a reversion to the standard set last football season, otherwise we’ll be looking for a new place.

This place is great — a wide menu with meat, vegetarian & vegan options! I had the tempeh salad — the tempeh was thinly sliced, like it was treated like sliced chicken. Very good. Our waitress was good — it took a bit to get her attention when we needed items(water, beer refill) but overall we were happy with our experience and will be back.

I went to this restaurant for the first time along with three other freinds to watch some playoff hockey. We arrived, ordered beers and appetizers. We basically expected average/above average bar/pub food based on the reviews we had read. The waitress was nice, beer was good, and the appetizers tasted decent. Then I found a large shard of glass under one of my perogies. Up until this point, I was satisfied with everything, so I just sent the plate back, and we went back to enjoying our meal. The waitress took the perogies off the bill, apologized profusely, and brought us our entrees in due course. Three of us really enjoyed our meals. However, the third meal was inedible. My freind took one bite of her meal, and refused to have anymore. The rest of us were skeptical, because we had enjoyed ours. As a result, I took one bite, and had to spit it out into my napkin. I certainly do not consider myself to have a weak stomach, and cannot remember the last time I had tasted something that I could not even get down. It tasted spoiled. The next time the waitress came back — as a caveat, the waitress was great — my freind spoke up and said her meal was inedible, and I agreed(only two bites out of the dish). The waitress took the meal back with the rest of the finished plates and apolgized. She soon came back to our table and reported that several people, including the manager, had tasted the burger and that there was notthing wrong with it. She explained that the reason that my friend and myself had not enjoyed the burger was because the bleu cheese on the burger was not«bleu cheese dressing» and was, in fact, «real bleu cheese.» My friend and I both enjoy bleu cheese and both know the difference between bad bleu cheese and a spoiled burger, but we didn’t want to make a fuss, and simply explained that we were surprised that the staff had determined that it was perfectly fine. Later, the server returned– but everyone at the table noticed a change in her attitude, which was stellar to that point. She said that she would take my friend’s burger off of our bill, but definitely did not seem happy about t it. Everyone at the table agreed that it was not our server’s fault that we had a subpar experience and tipped as if the removed items were still on our bill. We knew that it wasn’t her fault and felt bad, however, the change in attitude after everything that had happened, certianly didn’t seem warranted. Overall, The Westside Stadium sucks dick.

We stopped in here for our first time on Christmas night(one of the few actually open unless you dig the pee-smelling aroma at Zeno’s). We only had drinks, which did its job to quench our beer tasting thirsts, but they definitely did not seem to offer too much of a variety. The waitress working that night was friendly, but not very attentive which may have possibly been due to the guy she was swooning all over in the corner. Either way, it may be worth a try, but be warned that the place appeared small and incapable of holding a large crowd during peak hours or football season.

They only have light Cranberry juice. WTF? No sucralose for me, thanks. Update: I may have been a little too harsh on Westside. I had the pulled pork sandwich here because my dad dragged me and it was actually really good. Like, above par for State College bar food. But who only has light cranberry juice? And the beer selection flat-out sucks, so don’t rely on that.

Large open restaurant/bar with a bottleshop as you enter. The food options are somewhat limited. WSBG’s menu is closer to that of a bar than a grill: sandwiches, some pizzas, wraps, burgers, and a few salads. No steak, no ribs. Three deserts. The menu was a bit uninspiring, so I was pretty thrilled when I saw they had a wing special on that night(if you don’t find something you are crazy about, at least get something cheap). The waitress had no clue about it she told me it was because she was never asked. isn’t it on their giant billboard outside? Turns out it’s $ 5 for 12 wings(choice of 4 sauces) instead of $ 8 — not bad. The girlfriend’s cheesesteak was decent, but nothing special. Beers were of average price: $ 4.50 for a Troegs and a little less for a Miller. Other than that not a fantastic selection by any standard, but they do list some Troegs and Otto’s. Major thumbs up to the owners who had multiple TVs randomly showing CBC and the Montréal Canadiens — Ottawa Senators hockey game(Habs’ fan here). It’s a rarity to even be able to find a place that gets CBC(Champs is the only other one I could find in the area), let alone put it on without even asking for it. Also, thumbs up for the guy who was playing acoustic guitar that night at 7:30. He was quite good. The atmosphere was okay, several 50+ couples and many 40+ guys lining up at the bar and starting up random conversations after work. Not at all the college crowd, but that can be fine sometimes :-) Tip: This is located where Links used to be, at the intersection of Corl and College(appropriately) on the west side of campus, just before the waffleshop but after the intersection of college & beaver(yes — they meet).
