Bennett’s Bicycles

I took my 2 grandsons bikes in for repair to Bennett’s Bike Shop, the staff was fast and friendly as well as doing as great job. Both my boys are very happy with the repairs. The cost was not expensive at all and well worth it. Thank you to the staff

Unnoticed. Walked in, looked around, wasn’t packed, asked about bikes and was completely ignored. Felt very uncomfortable. There was enough staff and the place only had one other customer. Would never recommend this place nor go back.
Went in looking to buy a bike, was looked at like I had no money and was ignored.
Disgraceful experience.

A few months back My boyfriend and I bought bikes together and had a great experience. I wrote a review and left 5 stars. Recently, I had an issue with that bike and am even more proud to say that these guys still deserve 5 stars!
The bike I bought awhile back was a white specialized jynx. After about 3 outings, I said to my boyfriend that we need to clean it because it looks dirty. When we got home, he cleaned it up like new but it still looked «dirty». Out of the bright light of the sun and store/​home lighting, we could see that the back part of the bike was dis-​colored slightly. Toward the back there was an orangy hue to the paint that was unnoticeable before. It was obvious by the straight lines of the discoloration that it was a manufacturers defect.
I called the shop and explained the issue. I was told to bring the bike in so it could be assessed. During that week George called me and said he spoke to the manufacturer and they wanted some pics. I brought the bike in to George and he had someone take some pics of the issue. In the stores light and in the pics it was so hard to see the issue. I was afraid they wouldn’t help me bc they couldn’t see what I saw. George said he didn’t see what I was talking about but that it didn’t matter bc I was unhappy. He took the pics, sent them to specialized and said I could continue to ride my bike. About a week later, George called me and said they will replace the frame. Another few days later, he called again and said not only did they send a frame, but they sent a whole new bike! I was shocked but pleasantly surprised. I brought my bike back in that weekend and they built the new one right there for me. No orangish hue on this one! Still a happy camper and very impressed with their service!
Keep up the great customer service guys!

If the could give them more stars I would. My gf took me to Bennett bicycles this morning to purchase my bday girl and I can’t be happier. Amazing customer service very knowledgeable of the different bikes

I’ve been a long time patron and have never been disappointed. Their servicing is fast. The team are expert professionals and always willing to help over the phone.
They always have the latest gear with tons of selections. I’m definitely picky with colors & prints and can always find a good match.
Honestly the best bike shop on the Island!

I’ve been using this bike shop for purchases and repairs for more than 20 years! Their prices are more than reasonable, and if they don’t have something in stock they always have it the next day. Their repair work is outstanding and they stand by what they do. I would shop nowhere else!

This is basically the only normal bike shop on the island. Cheap would not describe it, but thy know their stuff and while there is a feel of used car sales dealership inside — it has it’s own weird charm to it. Buying a bike? Probably not here — the prices will way above online. So probably buy a bike online, pit it together a little bit and than bring here for $ 35 tuneup :).

Very disappointed with poor $ 2500 road bike packing job for shipping
— No fork axle block, fork legs poked thru bottom box box and got mangled
— Rear dérailleur not adjust to inner most (largest) gear and rear dérailleur hanger bent, frame and rear dérailleur stressed, box wasnt reinforced for side loads either
— front and rear brakes and derailluer bolts not tightened down and lost,
They must have had some stupid careless, tech working on this pack job
hours of my time replacing these things and dont have use of the bike in the meantime
I am the buyer, receiver of the bike
I’m pissed at the ebay seller, but it’s not really his fault, he gave me $ 200 back (out of a 1800 sale, still would rather have not had to deal with this
There’s almost no recourse against this shop (live in cali now) and it pains me to write this review for an otherwise decent, longstanding shop
LESSON LEARNED– DONT BRING YOUR BIKE THERE FOR PACKING UNLESS YOU BARK AT THEM ABOUT PROPER PACKING

When I was a kid, Bennett’s was the place to go. Lots of fond memories. I lived off-​island for many years, and have recently moved back. The three experiences I’ve had at the shop since coming back last year have ranged from frustrating to just awful.
I’ve dealt with multiple staff members and their attitudes have ranged from disinterested and grudgingly helpful, to flat out rude. My last trip to Bennett’s had me cursing out loud as I drove away, (the issue with my bike unaddressed and unresolved).
From now on I will GLADLY take the ferry to Manhattan, or drive into Brooklyn, for my bike repairs.

This is a business that is 3 generations strong. That in itself should tell you that you don’t stay in business that long (116 years) without doing something right, and they do it right. I’ve lived on S.I. all my life and have seen many bike shops come and go but Bennett’s is the store to visit if you’re interested in finding a quality bike, for a competitive price combined with the professional mechanical assistance needed if and when that time arrives. They treat all customers with respect, will never overcharge you and stand behind their products 100%. From little kid bikes to full blown carbon fiber, the highest standards of service are always visible. You’d be foolish to try any other avenue for bicycles.

I have been going here for a few years now and I have never had a problem, always pleasant and willing to help you out. What other bike shop lets you test their bikes out before you buy, not many that’s for sure. I am sorry for the other ppl that didn’t have a pleasant experience.

Do not even bother. The salespeople there are plain rude and are out to deceive you and rip you off. It’s also obvious that they don’t care about the customer at all.
I wanted a bike that wasn’t at the store (Trek 7.2 FX WSD) so they called Trek and placed an order. One of the salesman (Sean) told me it costs $ 479 but then an older gentleman who I believe may be the owner said $ 469. Sean tells me I will have to pay for shipping. When I say, «I have to pay for shipping!!!» the owner says, «She doesn’t have to pay for shipping.» I ask what the total will be after tax and Sean asks me what the sales rate is. Then he punches in some numbers and writes $ 510 on the sales slip. When I ask about a deposit Sean asks me if I’ll be paying cash or credit. Before I answer he says if I pay by credit card each time they swipe the card they’d charge me tax!!! I should have just left the store at this point but this is the only shop on Staten Island that carries Trek. I paid the deposit in cash and asked Sean if he’d be calling me when the bike arrives. He says, «What’s today? Thursday? It should be here around Tuesday but I guess I’ll call you when it gets here since I have your number.»
I left the store VERY unhappy and about 10 minutes later went back asking to cancel the order. Sean asks me why and I told him I changed my mind. He tells the owner and the owner yells, «OK but you have to pay us 20% of the total.» Their reason was once they place an order with Trek Trek will not let them cancel it. I really did not feel like losing $ 100 to these a**holes so I decided to keep the bike. I told them that I was not happy about how one person quoted me one price and another quoted me a different price. I also told them I did not like how one person told me I would have to pay for shipping and the other told me I didn’t. Then Sean says, «So what? It worked out in your favor.» Then the owner comes out and yells, «What do you want!!! If you had bought a bike from our store I would’ve just given you your money and told you to get out because I don’t want to deal with you! But I can’t cancel an order from Trek!» I also told him I didn’t like how he just put down $ 510 without telling me what the tax was so I told him I want a new sales slip with the price of the bike and tax and then total. He pulls out the receipt from the register and as he’s writing the new sales slip he says, «The tax is actually $ 40.57 so the total is $ 509.57.» I knew that he had to have rounded off the number and honestly 43 cents isn’t really a big deal but it’s just the principle. Don’t help these dishonest cheating people by shopping at their store.

They have the wrong sales tax programmed into their cash register. Instead of the 8.375% NYC sales tax they charged me 8.65%. I told them today when I went to pick up my bicycle and Sean says, «Oooh, one dollar!» It may only be one dollar but it’s the principle.

OK so May is here and it’s time to start getting in shape for the summer. If you’re like me and prefer being outdoors as opposed to a gym what do you do. You buy a bicycle!
Bikes today are ridiculously expensive, I had two options:
1) Order a bike on line from $ 150 and up
2) Go to Bennett’s Bicycle and purchase one for no less than $ 300.
The deal breaker for ordering a bike on line is that you have to put it together! Ya… OK! I’m not all thumbs but I’m no bicycle builder.
Anyway, long story short, Bennett’s (the only real bike shop on SI), has a nice variety of bikes ranging from inexpensive to very expensive. Bikes for kids through adults. Pay cash and drop the tax! They also service bikes @ Bennett’s as well.
If you are wondering I purchased the Trek 3700 for $ 350
