Calla Karate & Jujutsu

This karate dojo has a location in coral shopping center and sensai Mary runs the location I bring my 4 yr old son there. He loves it! We tried some other Dojo’s but they seemed like it was all about the money they Nickel and dined you for everything I children’s program is an half and hour and they are actually learning technique. As long as my kids Are happy that’s the best review!

Calla Karate is the BEST!!! My 6 y/​o son has been a student at Calla Karate for almost a year. My son is the type of boy who can’t stay still. He has a lot of energy to say the least. In the past, we’ve put him in soccer, basketball, swimming and scouts but nothing has held his attention the way karate has. Sure, he likes karate as a sport but mostly I attribute his interest and dedication to the fantastic instruction and experience that Calla Karate provides. Unlike many of the big name karate schools on the island the staff at Calla Karate are inviting and personable. Shihan Eddie and Sensei Mary know every child’s name from day one. They make every child feel special and in doing so they have built a beautiful extended family of students. The instructors are very patient, knowledgeable, and they provide the structure, discipline, and positive reinforcement that my child requires.
Over the past year, I’ve watched as Calla Karate has shaped my child into a better person. Shihan Eddie and Sensei Mary even helped my son when he was being bullied in school. In addition, I’ve watched my son’s fellow classmates flourish and have witnessed the staff work seamlessly with students who have learning disabilities. Calla Karate is truly a wonderful school.
Calla Karate also offers a kick-@$$ kickboxing class at both of their locations. I take this class and not only is it a great workout with some amazing women, but it is also very affordable.

This sensei is a very good says that he has patients for each and every one of his kids I highly recommend that you bring the child or yourself to these classes you will learn a lot

I cannot tell you how much my preschooler LOVES Calla Karate. She is so dedicated and shows focus beyond her years. She’s even sick right now but says she wants to get better so she can go back and practice. I’ve seen her skills improve in just a few weeks. Not to mention the love and support from Sensei Mary.
My daughter feels so special and tells me after every class that she is proud of herself. There’s nothing better than hearing that.

I have to say, I think the Calla Karate is a great school! My father is a 3 degree black belt and has not practice in 16 years due to a illness, he suffers from Dementia. I meet with the owner Eddie and told him how my father still spoke of his Karate days. Eddie told me to bring him in and he would work with him. Well he did and it was great to see the spark in my fathers eyes, my father is a man who can hardly walk and balance him self. Eddie helped him up and down walked him around and trained with him. I Thank You For taking the time with my father and doing such a great deed .I wish the world could have more kind hearted people like Calla Karate. we will be back and I will recommend everyone I know…,

I had trained in Karate for over 10 years. I then stopped for about 20. I started looking for a Dojo to take my young kids. I was specifically looking for a school that would work with children with special needs as my older son (then 7) is on the Autism Spectrum.
After going to another school that was one of the worst I have ever seen I read about Sensei Eddie and went to see the Dojo. I was immediately impressed as he took my son and gave him a private lesson. He and Sensei Mary have been working with my son for over 3 years and he has made remarkable improvements.
My younger son also goes to the kids class and he loves it there. I have never met people who love the kids they work with more than Sensei Eddie and Mary.
Sensie Eddie also convinced me to come try working out and getting back in to Karate. I have also been training now for three years and it has been great to get back into shape and work out after missing out on all those years.

This review is only based on the customer service and how they run their business. It is NOT based on the classes there.
My friend and I bought a Groupon for 20 fitness classes through Wellness Living. Wellness Living offers a variety of classes to choose from from different locations. We signed up for 2 of your kickboxing classes and came there on ¹²⁄₃₀ and ¹⁄₅. However, on both occasions, Calla Karate was closed! We called the office the first time and no one answered. The second time we went there and then called, we were told that the WellnessLiving schedule was never updated for more than 2 years! That’s completely irresponsible and they should have taken down those classes a long time ago. I still see their classes «offered» on Wellness Living and I wonder how many people actually believed that there was a class and came there just to find out that there was no such class?! Mind you, we are coming all the way from Brooklyn and it takes us 2 hours of transportation just to get there. It was even cold and windy those days!!!
Okay, so maybe they made a mistake. At least reimburse us with the 2 classes that we missed. We were told to send an email and my friend sent them a detailed email of what happened. Guess how they replied back? … «We don’t offer kickboxing anymore»… AND THAT WAS IT!!! What an infuriating email! So I decided to send an email also. I asked for a schedule of classes available so that we can make up those missed classes. Sensei Mary Calla replied back and she was very attentive. However, kickboxing classes are only available Wednesday night at 8pm. «Gloves are required in order to participate, they are available for purchase at the school.» ARE YOU SERIOUS? So you want us to go out of our way on a Wed. night to attend the class and we even need to purchase your damn gloves? We just need to attend 2 classes and now we need to spend money on you guys. I don’t think so.
No other classes are offered to us except for the kb classes that night. The neighborhood is very sketchy and the entrance is literally on the parking lot behind the laundromat. This is extremely unacceptable and I wish to warn everyone about their bad customer service. For a non-​established business, customer service should be priority so the customer is left happy with the service. If the customer is happy, then more customers will know about this! That is all.
