Beyond Sushi is an vegetarian sushi bar, which puts a spin on traditional sushi. Before deciding to try this place, I was not sure if I would like it. The main reason why I love sushi in the first place is that it’s made with my favorite seafood. I went ahead and decided to try it anyways — what a good decision. I ordered the Sweet Tree Roll($ 7) which is 8 pieces of rice, avocado, sweet potato and sprouts. It all was amazing, especially the sauce they topped it with. So good,(and still so hungry) I ordered a second roll set. No shame. Beyond Sushi made me a believer in good vegetarian food, especially when it comes to sushi. They had a lot of other great options that I’m now excited to try. It wasn’t that expensive either! Plus, they’re on seamless so makes sushi more convenient than ever.

Nice place to eat at for dinner. We went here for hibachi and the chef was very funny. The staff is also very friendly. I love the special rolls especially the 3 musketeers roll. It’s a little pricey but it’s pretty worth it. I would recommend this place and will come back for more.

wish I could give this place ZERO stars! just left this place as a first time customer and a last time customer. came here last minute because I was hungry and this spot is in the neighborhood. my bf and I order soup which was fine and he ordered sushi and asked for brown rice over white rice and I ordered pad Thai. food comes and I had a few bites of the pad Thai and noticed the chicken tasted funny but are around it, finally got our waiter and told him I didn’t care for it he offered me a new mel but at this point I just wanted to go home. get the bill and see I was charged for the meal after i expressed I didn’t like it. my bf paid the bill and as we left I called to get the manager who told me I ate more than half which was false and told me they wouldn’t refund me manager was rude and basically took the waiters word over mine the waiter who was inattentive an hard to track down and it was quiet so hard to find how he disappeared. HORRIBLE customer service and horrible food I should’ve read the reviews as I can see how it got 3 stars won’t go back

This place has gotten better and a lot nicer inside. There are maybe three servers who are actually good and been there for awhile. I love going on the hibachi side and getting hibachi steak with veg and fried rice. When it comes right off it tastes so fresh and good. I love this place so much and will continue to come here for many more years.

So today, I’m going on a Unilocal spree and basically reviewing the last places I’ve been to. Recently, I was brought to this sushi place by my friend. Being a Brooklyn girl, I rarely venture into the island because it’s just inconvenient for me. Anyway, it was my friend’s birthday and I went just because. I love sushi. I’m a sushi lover. Sushi is my favorite food. This being said, I can be a picky sushi eater because I’ve tried so many sushi places. Anyway, my expectations were average considering this is some random place in SI Island. Of course, this is coming from a Brooklyn lover. I really should visit SI Island more often considering the awesome restaurants this little island seem to hold. But boy was I mind blown. This place is amazing. I went on a Tuesday night and it wasn’t quiet, but it wasn’t crazy busy either. We were greeted ecstatically and shown to our seats. Generally, when I order something, I ask the experts what to recommend. A new sushi place means a new plate to try out. Well, I was recommended the sushi burger and whoa, i don’t think I ever want to go back to regular burgers again. It was perfect and the fish is just so fresh. Like I said, I’m an extremely picky sushi eater so if fish is not fresh, I’ll not continue eating it and I’ll ask the waiter to return it. The point of sushi is for the fish and there’s no point to continue eating fish that is not fresh. Well, this place didn’t have this problem because all the sashimi I ordered were incredibly fresh. We ordered a la carte and every piece was amazing. I highly recommend the live uni by the way, it’s fresh enough for you to consume raw and alive without getting sick. Like I said, everything is incredibly fresh. The price is extremely reasonable but I didn’t expect it to be overly expensive although the décor is in very good taste. I ended the night with a serving of the chocolate lava cake. They serve it with a scoop of ice cream. Oh my goodness, the perfect combination of cold cream mixed with warm melted chocolate threw me into heaven. By that point, I had half a mind to move to SI just for the food. I left with a full stomach and a very pleasant taste in my mouth. Fresh fish, good food, amazing customer service and a very cute waiter is leaving me extremely excited to go back soon.

I’ve been going to Mizu since it opened and the food has remained excellent since. The ingredients always taste very fresh. I love their fried rice, especially the veggie fried rice and the chicken fried rice. The hibachi vegetables is one of my favorite dishes, but the filet mignon is also very good. They have the best ginger salad dressing I’ve ever had. It has a very sweet, fruity flavor. The service is consistently fast and attentive. The hibachi tables are always entertaining, but similar to most hibachi shows I’ve seen. If you celebrate a birthday there, they let you hit the gong. I like it a lot better than Arirang. You can tell they use higher quality ingredients, especially the meats. Plus, they don’t make you wait until your entire party shows up to start your party’s ridiculous wait for a table. I definitely recommend this place!

Been eating here for the last 3 years with my family and I have to say, we all love coming here. We’ve never had a problem with the service or the food. The food has always been fresh and delicious. My wife eats sushi and she loves it from here she always eats it. I love the Hibachi and so do my kids.

only 3.5 Stars? I don’t get it! This place is fantastic. I order sushi from here every Friday and go there once in a while. The sushi here is fresh as can be! They are very creative with their Omakase and their appetizers. Tuna nachos? COMEON! they are fantastic! I don’t often write reviews. But when I enjoy a place, especially more than 10 times and I know its good but their reviews don’t portray that, I just have to step up and say something. Sometimes the service can be better, especially with the language barrier. They should hire help that can speak the language of the community not just hire friends and family. But I am talking about the food, the good food, the great food! Give this place a try, or 2. FYI — not a fan of special rolls in general, I stick to the plain rolls and pieces as the rice, fish tell the tale.

Good veggies, steak cooked just the way I asked. Still served us right before close on a rainy Sunday with no attitude. Great experience!

Came here a couple weeks ago, sat at the hibachi table, it was pretty cool, they prepare the food right in front of you, so its a cool and entertaining experience. the chef that prepared the food was friendly and entertaining. The food itself was good, portions could of been alittle bit bigger though. Also, we were all charged an extra $ 4 each for rice, which I thought was kind of outrageous, I thought they told me rice came with the meal, if I knew it was going to be $ 4 extra I wouldn’t of ordered rice. Good place, I will go back.

It’s a nice place but parking could be tight its in a busy mini mall area. The waiters are nice but no offensive at all but it’s very hard to understand them and also they kept asking me to repeat what I wanted and it was getting kind of frustrating ! The sushi was okay nothing special I believe I have def. tried and had better and even in small local spot. The décor and place is pretty nice and they have a full stocked bar area and they also have hibachi. Not sure I would come back. Nothing really that stands out or taste so great that would make me want to come back.

Good food but poor temperature control. Every time the door opened, we felt a blast of freezing air. We couldn’t warm up. We ate with our jackets on!

Best hibachi in Staten Island! Not greasy, cooked perfectly right in front of you. This place is a little pricey but so worth the cost because the food is great quality. Try their chocolate martini as well.

I like the location of this place, it has an option to sit in the dining/bar area or hibachi area. Both have nice décor. Staff is friendly. Food is good, prices are a little high, but standard for the type of food. If you don’t want to eat too much or spend too much but still want the hibachi experience, they have side dishes instead which are a third of the price and a decent amount. They also have an A rating which is a necessity when it comes to eating raw foods. Service was quick, we were seated immediately and food was served minutes after ordering, although it was not busy at all.

I’ve been to Mizu a handful times and have ordered in more than that. In fact, we ordered in from Mizu last night. The food is nothing exceptional, it’s what I expect from a Japanese restaurant. The sushi is always fresh and they have all the traditional rolls and specialty rolls that nearly every other place is offering these days. The reason for three stars is already mentioned, CHECKYOURBILL. We went for Hibachi last week and sat with a mother and her two children. First, they have a HUGE sign outside saying kids eat free with purchase of entrée on Mondays and Tuesdays. It was Tuesday and both our party and the woman with two children was charged for all meals, despite us both having children. Don’t offer a special if you’re going to try to «pull a fast one on the customers»; poor business ethic! The other woman was also charged for rice that came with hibachi. The fact that both of us were over-charged shows a large problem at this restaurant. Mizu, you have average food, keep that in mind. If you are going to offer promotions, over charge, and only have average food, people will not come back. There are other, more inventive, sushi restaurants in the area.

I feel the service and food has downgraded since it first opened. On my most recent visit, it was very quiet, hardly any clientele eating. Some parts of our appetizers were dry, while others were pretty good. My rainbow roll was good. We had calamari to start, which were okay, and my husband had a beef dish, that I didn’t care for. I also felt like we were rushed and it was very cold in the dining area. I don’t know the next time i’ll be back.

We were here for a private party and was so disappointed and disgusted with the service. For starters, the party occupied 5 hibachi tables but they only had 2 hibachi chefs available! The other 3 tables had to wait for our chefs to do the presentation, therefore, the last table had to wait almost 2 hrs to be served because they had to wait for the chef yet again!!! What kind of party is that, staggered eating!!! Let’s go to the service now, which was equally horrendous! The servers were rude, impatient and getting all the orders wrong! One of my kids didn’t even get anything from the hibachi grill because they totally forgot his order, which in turn prolonged the service of the other tables! I will never go back to this restaurant! And based on other people’s reviews, they ate consistent with the bad service…

So we were craving hibachi and decided to give this place a try. Its a small place. Its nice, situated in a shopping mall. We were pleasantly surprised. We were seated at a hibachi table by ourselves which was great. We ordered a peanut avocado roll for a starter and we both ordered filet mignon and scallops. Scallop were massive. We also order fried rice which was very good. The chef came out right away and started cooking the food. Everything was well prepared, seasoned extremely well and cooked perfectly. Produce was fresh and they used quality ingredients. Thats why I really like this restaurant. This place is not gimmicky they are about the food. Wait staff was great on top of everything. Surprisingly this place is reasonably inexpensive for what we ordered. I will def come back.
