Vanderbilt at South Beach

My experience at The Vanderbilt was great! It’s located not too far from the Verranzo Birdge making it very convenient from the western part of Brooklyn. The hall is ornate in its design and catches your eye. Valet parking is available upon arrival and a few large rooms are on the premises. My friend selected the Palm Room for her 30^th birthday party. The décor went very well with her beach theme.
The DJ was good and had music playing throughout the night. There was a table with appetizers and some were passed by the staff. Everything was delicious and there was great variety. The food was served buffet style and the cake was beautiful and delicious as well.
Overall it was a good experience with attentive and friendly staff. My only complaint was the room was very chilly as its next to the water. The heat could have been raised a bit more.

I had my wedding here on May 24^th, 2009. It was awesome. All my guests complimented how great it was. They still talk about it. I want to thank Sal Sulsenti for accommodating us. He worked with us to get the most bang for our buck. The venue was beautiful, and the food was unreal. I highly recommend this place.

The story about how we wound up at the Vanderbilt is one of luck working in our favor. When we were browsing around for a place to host our wedding, we were travelling from one venue to another and had some time to kill before the second appointment. We decided to stop in for the heck of it with absolutely zero intention of having the wedding there. Then, we met Sal and we couldn’t believe how patient and flexible he was. My wife and I asked for a minute and we knew we were never going to make it to that next appointment. We signed the contract immediately and went home very excited.
Over the next few months, Sal was there any time we had questions and he did a great job of keeping my wife calm when she thought we were behind schedule (we were actually months ahead of schedule). As the day drew closer, Sal helped us go over every single last detail with incredible patience and the right advice when we needed it.
On the day of our wedding, the amazing service continued with Felix, the Maitre D, and Kellie the bridal attendant. My wife and I aren’t very demanding people (or so I hope lol), but they were there to take care of things before we even knew they needed to be taken care. It was amazing. Our entire bridal party was blown away by the level of service Felix and Kellie gave us. They simply didn’t miss a single beat. It was amazing and made us feel like the most important people in the world.
While my wife and I didn’t get to interact with the other servers all that much, our guests have already started telling us how great they were, as well.
I am absolutely floored by the level of service we received last night. Sal, Felix, Kellie and all of the other people we wound up talking to over the past year were absolutely amazing to work with. Sure, the hall itself, is beautiful and the ocean view making the room that much more breath taking, but the service is the real crown jewel at The Vanderbilt.

I’ve been to the Vanderbilt for affairs which it’s primarily used for. It’s right on the boardwalk at south beach and you can catch a lot of wedding ceremonies right on the sand!
If anybody is ever looking for the absolute best and least expensive Thanksgiving buffet this is the place. I stopped doing my own many years back. Too much work! There’s soup to nuts here. Start off with a killer buffet that really covers everything. Turkey and many many sides are brought over to table family style. Any food not eaten is packed up to go. Basically you are given a whole turkey sliced up.

Back to the buffet for desert. Cookies, pies, cakes, fruit and a chocolate dipping fountain. Coffee is served at table. This is the best affordable delicious fun easy way to spend Thanksgiving
Oh yea, there’s also a kids section!

My wife and I cannot thank Sal and the staff at the Vanderbilt enough, especially Felix and Brittany, for making us have the picture perfect amazing wedding. Everything was literally perfect, from the carpeted beach ceremony with palm trees, the perfect weather, the incredible food at cocktail hour, amazing dinner, ice cream sunday bar, everything was just amazing. We had the wedding of our dreams at the Vanderbilt, and everyone afterwards has been telling us how amazing it was, they loved the food, the venue, the beach wedding with the bridge in the background, it was honestly just amazing. The staff was just so accommodating and helpful and made us and our guests feel completely at home. I can’t say enough good things about the venue, everything was just perfect. The Vanderbilt gave my wife and I the wedding of our dreams, a day that we will remember and cherish for the rest of our lives!

I had recently visited The Vanderbilt @ South Beach Staten Island NY for a wedding and what a great experience. Again this is a review about a wedding I attended here and not a dinner service. Those looking for their magical venue look no further. The ambience inside is as nice as the outside.
When you first walk in the cocktail party is held in a rustic with a wide layout to accompany a large wedding invite. Many stations were placed out for the taste buds and as you would think its catering hall food somehow it always taste worse when not drunk but people honestly the food was amazing. The seafood was very fresh from oysters to shrimp. The pasta was cooked al Dente which is my favorite way. The pesto and al fredo sauces were season well. One gripe though the actual bar itself is a little short and was understaffed. 1 bartender for more then 100 guest.
Walking into the main dinning area there are multiple chandeliers creating a nice elegant setting w/​a Fairly large tiled dance floor. Nice views of the beach, city land scape, and Verrazano bridge. The servers and waitresses were always in the money and ball. Whether needing a refill before the glass went empty or for any other crazy need or want. The dinner food was great. My steak was cooked to perfection. Even the veggies were amazing. The entire plate disappeared. Usually at catering halls it’s hard to finish their food. Usually the foods very salty, buttery even inexorable but your drunk and eat it anyways. Not at the Vanderbilt. I was completely sober and can tell you the food was amazing.
I would definitely look into booking this catering hall in future plans. Only negative I can say are the vale guys are very young and may scare the heck out of you when trying to park your car.
A+ Venue.

Attended a dinner show here. Getting in. Valet parking can be a nightmare. At least it was on this night. Line of cars all the way onto Capodanno. if you can find parking in the street, I suggest you take it. Place is ok inside, nothing that made me say wow! The food? Started with a mozzarella and tomato plate. It was ok. Next course was pasta with sausage, broccoli rabe, garlic and oil. Everything but the sausage was tasteless! Main course was a combo of steak, chicken, fish, all served with the same sauce. Steak was a little tough, fish had a funky taste. The chicken was ok. Dessert was another combo of inedible mess. A cheesecake that had a strange burnt taste to it. A few other items that weren’t memorable. The service was very unorganized. Our waiter who was a nice guy, seemed overwhelmed having to serve us bar orders and the food. We were sitting there while all the tables around us were eating their pasta dishes. Coffee came out after the dessert. Maybe it’s me, but I like to drink coffee while I’m eating my burnt cheesecake! The coffee was on the crappy side as well. Thankfully, the main reason for us being here was the show which was off the hook!

Had my wedding at the Vanderbilt. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was attentive the food was amazing. We had one hitch in the seating arrangement but the staff fixed the problem quickly without alerting the guests. I would recommend The Vanderbilt to any bride looking for a venue. Sal was amazing and very helpful throughout the process.

Beautiful place right on the beach. I have eaten buffet on a Sunday through the South Fin. And it was delicious.

Let me preface this review by saying it is the impression my fiancée and I got when we went to see the Vanderbilt when looking for a place to have our wedding. We parked in the front and walked in the front doors. Right away, the place has a cold. corporate feel. It was gorgeous, but cold. We made an appointment and were met by a hostess who was nice and she took us upstairs to an office to wait for the manager? I dont recall his name, but he finally met with us after about 20 minutes of waiting. Finally he appears in his suit and sits down across from us to talk. No hi, no congratulations, no «thank for choosing us», nothing. Still a cold vibe. He proceeds to tell us he’s aware that we want to have a small wedding, and they can accommodate us. Then he tells us he needs to find out how much we want to spend per person because he «needs to get a certain amount of money to come in and turn the lights on for us and run the air conditioners». My fiancée and I were DONE at that point. The place was fancy, but cold, the manager was completely uninterested and made us feel like he was doing us a favor. I appreciate that places that can’t/don’t want to host a smaller wedding, tell you that over the phone and don’t waste your time. He went on to show us the lobby where we could have our ceremony for $ 650 extra WITHOUT flowers, candles, music, etc, and YOURE IN THE LOBBY. Its a fancy marble lobby, but youre still in the lobby. There wasn’t even talk about having the ceremony on the beach. The beach is right outside. It wouldve been nice as an option for pictures and ceremony. I am grateful we found another place on the island that exudes warmth, with staff who go above and beyond to please, and were happy to have our business. I would not recommend the Vanderbilt to anyone.

Its got an impressive lobby and exterior wooden staircase and patio. It also exists in a great location, but that’s about it. Average ratings for the main rooms, food. GM was one of the nicest guys in the world. Had been in the business for years and knew how to respectfully interact with everyone.

I had my mom’s surprise 50^th birthday party at the Vanderbilt this past weekend and it was amazing! We had a cocktail party in the Palm Room and we really got our money’s worth. I shopped around prior to booking the Vanderbilt and nothing compared. There was no pigs in a blanket, more like lobster and goat cheese quiche!
The food was so so so so good! All of our guest kept raving about how good the food was, how beautiful the venue was, how excellent and attentive the staff was, and how great the drinks were!
Margaret out party planner was great from beginning to end. She covered all basis and was there to answer any questions that I had.
JoJo our Maitre d’ was amazing! She was on-​top of everything. She did a great job!
Even though we had a little mishap it got all cleaned up and taken care of immediately, not to mention well compensated well for the incident.
I would suggest the Vanderbilt to anyone who would like to throw that extra special kind of party.

We had a party for my daughter at the Vanderbilt. It is a beautiful place in a lovely, beachy location. The manager Ian was wonderful to work with, and designed our unique (not cookie cutter) party. The food was great (exactly what we wanted), and the service was excellent. They really stuck to their word as far as the contract goes! The only issues were that the place was not ready when our guests started arriving. This was due to the staff cleaning up from a prior event.
Also, we had the cocktail hour in the Palm room, which was lovely, but has no air conditioning. I t was a very warm day, and the room was very uncomfortable!
Other than that we had a great affair with numerous compliments!

I had my wedding here and the experience from start to finish was nothing but pleasant. Although there is no such thing as a stress free wedding, Ian (the Jewish wedding planner) did his best to make the process as easy and smooth as possible. The man has over 30 years of experience in the business and he really does know what he’s doing.

The best place ever. Got married there on the 22 of July and the service was awesome! The food was delicious n the staff was the best. Thanks especially to Sal Sulsenti and my bridal assistant Danielle. You guys were wonderful. The bridal suite is to due for. Had fresh flowers waiting, cool drinks n I was waited on like a princess! All of my guest complimented on the excellent service n the elegance of the place. Thanks Vanderbilt staff for making my day memorable!

First off, the venue here is amazingly beautiful, the beach and all. My daughters wedding on the beach was absolutely stunning. The new deck also opened in time for my daughters wedding and we were so excited to be able to make use of the outdoors.
We had planned this wedding with a charming man from the Vanderbilt, in charge of the Kosher events. He is very accessable for months before the event. He was always accessible to answer questions and even provided us with his cell phone number, he was just a terrific people’s person.
However, we did encounter some problems with our contract which called for waiters to ask guests if they would like a drink, whether it be alcohol or a beverage. This did not happen. We were also suppose to have two bars during the cocktail hour, one outside and one inside. We were only provided with the one outside, which caused problems for people who wanted a drink and were inside.
Though we brought in our own caterers (kosher), The maitre D appeared to blame everything that went wrong on the caterer and vice versa. What really seemed to be happening was that communication broke down between the caterer and the maitre’d. The regular everyday supervision of staff and the event had really broken due to communication problems and lack of enough staff for the event.
I strongly recommend that when planning a wedding, you be clear about everything you expect even if it’s already in the contract. Assign friends (not in the wedding party) specific jobs to keep an eye on things that you expect to happen or not happen.
Make it very clear to the halls you won’t give any tips until you’ve spoken to your friends to find out how the service was. Remember, tips are optional not mandatory.
Though the Vanderbilt is a beautiful venue, it’s still a business. And when one goes into contract with a business, it’s important for the buyer to be an educated consumer. It’s your responsibility to know the right questions to ask and to expect that the venue will assure your event goes smoothly.

We were seated near a window and the view was nice. The service was good but menu was uninspiring.

I came here for a mutual friends wedding a few weeks ago. The wedding was beautiful– but the food and the interior décor of this place was a little much. Also I was seated the farthest from the d.j. and still left with a headache. The food –i’ve experienced better. Valet parking tooo (quivver.)
However, when i was gathering the flowers form my tale to take home, one of the waitresses there got me saran wrap to make it easier.
