Victory Cantina

I’ve been to this restaurant twice, but both times for lunch, so I can’t comment on their dinner service.
Parking: very available on side streets
Wait: the restaurant was not very full, and I was seated immediately
Service: prompt, attentive, friendly
Ambience: small, but somewhat charming. Not high-​end, but a good place for a meal with friends or even a laid back date
Food: Nachos are some of the best I’ve ever had – it’s the reason I came back a second time. The entrées (I’ve had two so far) are probably better than most other Mexican restaurants in the area, but still not fantastic.
Price: priced reasonably well for what’s offered; without drinks, you’ll likely pay $ 25/​person
Overall: better than a 3, but not quite a 4; I’d rate them 3.5 if I could. It’s a convenient location, with decent food, and banging nachos.

Came here for the very first time on Cinco de Mayo, which was pretty hectic. I waited around for nearly 20 minutes before being seated, but it was pretty crowded and the waitstaff seemed a bit overwhelmed. It was also my partially my fault for not speaking up, as they probably thought I was with another group waited to be seated, after all, which loser shows up to a crowded restaurant by himself on Cinco de Mayo of all days? Me of course! But I digress.
Food here was good, no complaints, as was the service. At any rate, I ordered three tacos, a margarita drink and a beer. Bill came out to around $ 35, which includes tip. I thought the price was kind of steep for Staten Island standards, and considering the hole-​in-​the-​wall Mexican joint I usually go to is way cheaper. See Amor Mexicana review. All-​in-​all, food was good but a bit pricey.
I probably won’t be returning, at least by myself, but if I were asked to return with a large group, I would not be opposed.

Decent food, okay ambiance, average restaurant.
Location: Located on victory Blvd, mid shop in a line of stores. Parking is available on the street where you have to pay at a muni meter.
Ambiance: The space is relatively small. About 10 tables and 10 – 12 bar stools. There is also patio seating, but it wasn’t available yet when we went last weekend. The inside space does not resemble anything Spanish/​Mexican whatsoever… minus the «Salud» one word writing on the wall. The space seemed relatively clean. I wasn’t grossed out by anything in the dining area but also not impressed. The bathroom on the other hand was disgusting. There are 2 bathrooms that were unkempt. So much so, that my bf went to use it and it was so gross, he walked right back out. Said there was actual shit on the seat and walls. Granted, the waitress was female so maybe she didn’t know but that’s totally gross none the less. There are about 3 large TVs and probably gets busy for happy hours.
Experience/​food:
We went in the afternoon on a Saturday and there were only a few people there with 1 waitress. We sat right away which was nice and the waitress was nice and helpful. Chips and salsa are given to every table and it was very good. Standard chips, sweet salsa which I enjoyed bc I don’t like spicy. I also like the drinks in mason jars. Very cute but more shabby chic than Mexican. Anyway, I ordered a burrito and my bf got an enchilada. Both were decent. Nothing bad about it but nothing special either; especially after hearing how great the good was here. Maybe we didn’t order what they were raging about. Food came out kind of slow for being one of two tables there but we weren’t in a rush so it was ok. Bill was about 40 $, fairly priced food for a quick dinner.
Bottom line: we probably won’t be back too often if at all. It’s just not anything special that you can’t get anywhere else and I’d prefer somewhere a little cleaner.

My favorite spot to come on Taco Tuesday!
The establishment is located on a busy boulevard. During the day, you will have to pay the meter or park on the side streets. The place has about 10 tables and in warm weather you can eat outside. It is easily accessible by bus. The s/​66, s/​61, s/​62, stops near the restaurant. During rush hours the s/​93, s/​91, s/​92 will get you here quicker. The customer service is good and between the hours of 4 – 7 its Happy Hour!!!. I like this place because it is chill place to hang out and drink a nice cold one.
On Mondays, Its’ Margaritas Mondays! The house margaritas are strong but good. Their are $ 4.00 each drink.
On Tuesday, Its’ Taco Tuesdays of course!
Their tacos are 2 for $ 5.00 (a dollar more if you want guacamole). As a plant base dieter I get a lettuce wrap tacos with Braised Kale, mushrooms, corn, peppers and green sauce. It is so delicious!!! My non-​vegans friends and family likes the carne asada tacos.
On Wednesdays, It is 50 cent wings! I cant review the wings but my friends say its good.
Everyday they have a special but I am not sure of the rest of the days. Enjoy!

PERFECT!!! I came in for some Cinco de Mayo festivities and its been a great time. They even have good music… happy hour specials on point! FOOD EVEN BETTER!

This will be my first & last time that I will be ordering from this place. I tried the chicken, fish, shrimp, beef, & vegetarian tacos. They were all bland & did not have enough flavour.

In my opinion this is one of the worst places for Mexican food on Staten Island. The queso was more like cream cheese dip and the burrito has shredded chicken instead of grilled chicken like i requested.

Stopped by here because Jose Tejas was too busy. Complimentary chips and salsa were good. drinks were tasty although they only gave a very minimal buzz. Food was the WORST part. Spicy Chipotle wings were delicious (appetizer) BUT the tacos were the blandest tasting things ive ever had and my boyfriend hated his burrito which was also very bland. The food wasn’t seasoned at all. I’d come back to pick up some wings but never again for anything else.

Complimentary chips and salsa! Chips come out warm and super tasty. Their wings and tacos were good as well. I think I got full off the chips so I just had two tacos, shared wings, and was super full. Waitress was friendly as well. Had the island punch– can definitely taste the alcohol.

After a wrong turn led us to the borough of Staten Island vs Brooklyn (don’t ask ;) we found ourselves determined to explore the island’s food offerings.
Unfortunately, it was after 10 PM (on a Saturday) and everything was closed. I searched my trusty Unilocal app for answers and found that Victory Cantina was still open (and still would be until 2 AM).
We went inside and were pleasantly surprised by the groovy reggae music that was playing. We were greeted by the friendly staff and sat at the bar. Our order consisted of nachos, a burrito bowl, and cucumber Mojitos.
The food was excellent! As you know I am always on the hunt for nachos and this little place has made it on my list of nacho gems.
The nachos were oven baked with three cheeses (not that fake gooey queso). They were a little heavy-​handed with the cheese and light handed on the guacamole and sour cream, but I’m not sure that mattered, since I quickly downed the entire portion, without giving my boyfriend the opportunity to steal one nacho.
Needless to say, if I ever find myself in SI again, I’ll be back!

Ok place. No high chairs for babies. We came for an early dinner. It has a relaxed vibe and excellent, attentive service. My wife’s enchilada was good but my burger was pretty lame. It was a frozen patty on a Costco bun. I ordered it because I saw another pic on Unilocal of an amazing looking burger on a sesame seed bun. That’s definitely not what I got served. On the other hand our drinks were good. I guess this place is worth it if you go with their specials but for the price of their regular menu I’d rather go to Ho Brahs on Forest.

After hearing great things about this place from friends, my fiancé and I decided to give it a try. We came on a Friday around 6:00 and it wasn’t too busy.
They first give you chips with salsa. The chips was ordinary chips, nothing special and the salsa was basically chopped tomatoes. Not spicy at all.
Being it was our first time. We decided to try a few tacos off their menu. The Baja shrimp and Arbol steak taco was delicious (3.50 each) you can order a hard or soft shell. Then I ordered the enchilada entrée which included yellow bland rice which didn’t have much flavor and black beans.
I found the enchilada (2 skinny long pieces) filled with chicken and Monterey Jack cheese; bland. My fiancé got the el jere burrito and it was HUGE. It did not come with any sides of rice and beans. It was a bit better than the enchilada, but again a little bland with flavoring.
Everything was 35.00 not too bad for dinner. It was average Tex-​mex food.
Décor: the music and the décor does not follow a Mexican themed restaurant/​bar.
*In conclusion: I would go again for just their tacos which were good. You can order 3 and be full, other than that; the food was average.

Pleasantly surprised. Solid food. The plantains were delicious! The bar tender was very nice. The margaritas were just okay they could have definitely been better. I would go back for the tacos and try their brunch

This is a decent local margaritas and nachos kind of place. There are really good more authentic Mexican restaurants popping up all over SI. If you are looking for decent drinks and some decent nachos this place will work for you. If you are looking for really good tacos and enchiladas maybe not…

I really loved this place for awhile but one day i got a cheesesteak quesadilla that pretty much gave me food poisoning and was puking my guts out for
brother ordered the same thing and it happened to him too. i think the cheese was spoiled or something. its a shame because this was a go to place but after that experience ill never go back

So my wife and I frequent to a number of places in this busy corridor of Staten Island… Joe & Pats, Alfonso’s, 24 Hour CVS and we always pass this place but have never stopped by.
Finally we decided to stop by today during the lunch time/​brunch time slot around 2pm. I have to say we were very impressed. The young lady behind the bar was running the bar and waiting the tables. She was attentive and accommodating. The Chips and salsa were very good, Salsa was very mild and earthy.
My wife ordered the Tres Leches Challah Bread French Toast which had FRESH berries not that bs soaked in syrup crap that cheap diners use. She had a rum punch which was a refreshing adult cocktail in a mason jar. Again, very refreshing and reasonably priced @ $ 6.
I had the fajitas which is pretty standard at any tex-​mex place. The cut of steak and chicken was good quality. The steak was not fatty or chewy. It had a nice Chipotle sauce on top which added a nice kick to it. The peppers and onions complemented the dish and the accoutrements were nice and fresh, guacamole, mexican cheese blend and sour cream.
With tax and tip it came to about $ 45 which is very fair in 2016 for a sit down restaurant. The establishment was clean and had unique décor which my wife and I loved. There was a nice selection of tequilas and other beverages behind the bar as well. This place would be a great destination to have a night of libation with friends or family.

Come for:
Margarita Monday– by far my favorite is the Pinapeno– Wonderful chili powder rim. Tastes like sweet pineapple when you start and has a nice soft, but spicy «burn» as the finish.
Taco Tuesday– $ ⁵⁄₂ tacos and you can mix and match. The fish taco and carnitas taco are my favorite.
Wing Wednesday– $ 0.50/wing and you must try the Sweet and Spicy sauce. More sweet than spicy, but perfect on the wings
Sangria Saturday– red or white you can’t go wrong!

Well I have had enough friends giving rave reviews that this place piqued my interest.
Where were all these places when I lived on the Island?
Finally got a chance to stop in for lunch. They opened for business in May of this year. It was Taco Tuesday’s 50% off all tacos. Oh my, guess what I had?
We started out with the Jamaican Jerk wings as an appetizer they were very crispy, a nice size and not greasy as wings at other places can be.
On to the entrees, my wife had the Mayan salad which consisted of Romaine, cucumber, avocado, tomato, black beans served in a fried tortilla bowl. She added the tequila lime shrimp with the cilantro lime vinaigrette on the side.
Of course I couldn’t resist the tacos. Ordered three, the fish, steak and chicken. The fish was cod and contained Mexican slaw, pico de gallo, chipotle and guacamole. The chicken had salsa roja, onion, cilantro and lettuce. While the steak had Chili de arbol, onion, cilantro and lettuce.
We chased it down with soft drinks served in mason jars. Maybe next time we can try the Sangria which seems really great or try one of the craft beers on tap. They only have 4 taps so it rotates every couple weeks or so.
Heck, I remember when the only Mexican place on Staten Island was a chain restaurant with the initials TB.
