We offer full day adventures to the beautiful Mt. Rainier National Park specializing in small, personalized tours. Our tour is focused on each guest having the time to enjoy the variety the Park offers. From old growth forests, waterfalls, scenic vistas, glaciers, wildlife, wildflowers and more. Operating year-​round, our guests will experience many environments and opportunities to create memories that will last a lifetime.

History

Established in 2012.

Discover Nature, LLC is owned and operated by naturalist and professional tour guide Diann Sheldon.

Diann has been leading friends and family for many years into the great outdoors. After their encouragement and working as a professional tour guide for Tours Northwest, a Seattle based company, for the last six years she knew it was time to follow her dream of owning her own tour company.

Discover Nature’s Tour Mount Rainier is the first day tour company based in the Tacoma/​South Puget Sound area.

Meet the Business Owner

Diann S.

Business Owner

Diann has been discovering and exploring the great outdoors since she was a young girl. She has lived in Wyoming, Utah, Virginia, Arizona, and Oregon. Living in multiple environments gave Diann the opportunity to pursue her passion for discovery and share her excitement naturally with others.

Diann received a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona. She worked as a fisheries biologist for the Arizona Game and Fish Department and Mt. Hood National Forest. Pursuing her joy of driving and serving people she worked as a city bus operator/​instructor for Lane Transit District in Eugene, Oregon. She has been a professional tour guide for Tours Northwest, a local Seattle company, for the last five years. She is now following her dream of owning her own tour company in the south Puget Sound area.

Diann and her family live in Steilacoom, WA an hour and a half from the Park’s entrance.

Okay we were a little bit worried about doing this tour this time of year — WE WERE WRONG — DO IT NOW — it was so cool. When we got to Paradise the snow started coming down and we got to Snow Shoe — it was such a great adventure. Diane is a great tour guide — knowledgeable — easy going — passionate about her job. She has found her Park!

I must say that this is the first time I have been compelled to make a Unilocal account account so that I could post this review. Diane’s tour was just simply amazing! It was very intimate (just the bf and me). Her style is very laid back yet professional but very funny at times. I must admit that going on the tour was my boyfriend’s idea, so I came with very little expectations. After getting off the bus, Diane was right there ready to meet us. She allowed us to get our morning Starbucks fix, stop at a local grocery store to pick up some lunch, and we then proceeded to go to the park. As the tour went on, she pointed out all the hidden gems of Mt. Rainier, the different types of moss and trees, the local ecology and wildlife, the history behind it, and several details that I would have silly glanced over had it not been for her. As we stopped and tried to located the wood pecker that echoed through the trees, she explained everything with such enthusiasm and love for the park. We, of course, made numerous stops along the way to pose for numerous pictures, and she was kind enough to take several of our pictures. Once we got up the mountain, Diane was ready with snow shoes, shoe covers, and all the equipment that we needed. Being from Southern California and having only seen snow once before, I was so grateful that she was so prepared with all her gear. Diane’s tour rekindled my long lost love for nature, and my only regret is that I wish she was available for tours at all the other parks that I now wish to visit. This is simply the best tour that you could book, it is very worth your money, and there is no one better than Diane!
