Cascades Chiropractic

The only reason this place is even getting two stars from me is because Dr. Winseck is fantastic, upbeat, friendly, and all around amazing doctor. Other than that, the staff at Cascades Chiropractic has made several customer service faux pas that will prevent me from ever returning.
First– the very first time that I went there I was told that they would bill me later because they wanted to see how my insurance would cover the services, which seemed more than fair to me. Then another staff member collects $ 25 from me. The first staff member told her to give me the money back because of what we had discussed earlier. The second staff member didn’t even apologize for taking my money for no reason. For all I know, she might have just pocketed the cash since there wasn’t even a service for me to pay for at that time!
After that, I had an allergic reaction to the Electric Muscle Stimulation machine so I requested not to have the service. They STILL billed me for it. In fact– when I asked how much these services were going to cost (because I have a deductible to meet and I wanted to keep costs low) they GROSSLY misrepresented the amount I would be charged. I went four times and was quoted about $ 50 per visit so I expected about $ 200 MAYBE $ 300 bill. My Bill is over $ 400 and includes the charges for Electric Muscle Stimulation that I did not want.
After all this, my last visit was on May 17^th, the staff called me on May 20^th and said they hadn’t seen me in a while and when would I be back? They seem like they are constantly trying to book you for appointments (eg: Saying «Will Monday and Wednesday next week work for you? Instead of just asking you when you would like to visit again!) I’m so dissatisfied with the service solely due to how the staff manages the billing and scheduling. Very poorly managed. Very poorly indeed.

My first visit to cascades chiropractic was today. I have really painful muscle knots on shoulders and back. they hurt to the point that I can’t simply walk without being in pain. So, my first thought was to find a place to get a massage so hopefully they could be massaged out. Well, i googled massage places in the area and picked the one with the best deal after looking up the companies on Unilocal.$ 49 for a first time client who wants a deep tissue or Swedish massage. PERFECT, I thought.
Ambience: the «office» is a mixture of a doctors office and a day spa. It’s simple but inviting. The actual massage rooms are nice. Soft sounding music playing in a dimly-​lit room. Very relaxing. For the most part it was quiet but a few different times I could hear people in the hallway talking… Not a big deal for me but for others it may be.
Customer service: I arrived 30 minutes early so I waited I the reception area. The receptionist was very friendly. We talked about what we were both doing or thanksgiving. I love that the customer service was so good. I always look for businesses with friendly and efficient customer service.
Massage therapist and the massage: When it was time for my massage, I was called back by the massage therapist. The massage therapist briefed me about what to expect which was nice. I’ve had professional massages before but not everyone has so it is nice that they tell you what to expect. My massage therapist was very nice and she Made sure I was comfortable. I asked for a Swedish massage with medium pressure. I also mentioned my knots. My massage therapist told me she would concentrate on specific knot areas but of course will massage my whole body. I got exactly what I asked for: a Medium pressure massage! I loved the massage!
Afterthought: although the massage was great, I would have enjoyed it more if I didn’t have muscle knots. The massage didn’t really do anything for my painful knots. That is probably my fault. I should have asked my massage therapist to only concentrate on my back and shoulders and not massage my entire body.
Bottom line: great place to get a massage. Should try at least once.

I came in as a first time patient with a Groupon for a massage. The place looked run down, paint dull and chipped and peeling. Baseboards removed. carpet dirty, establishment over all is narrow and small.
Receptionist was friendly but kinda pushy. My massage therapist Karen Gills was AMAZING, very nice, kind, soft spoken and helpful not to mention she gave a great massage. IF I ever came back it would be only because of her!

I’ve had 3 sauna wraps here and I’ve been pretty disappointed the last two times I went. The first time, I paid an extra fee for some time of ionized liquid or whatever that would supposedly help increase the effectiveness of the wrap (removing toxins and promoting weight loss). Bandages soaked in this liquid were applied to my body and then the sauna wrap began. The sauna wrap got extremely hot (which is the point) and the entire experience would be described as «intense.» My second visit, I again paid the extra fee for the extra treatment, but it was merely sprayed on me from a squirt bottle… No bandages. Then the technician forgot to turn the sauna bed on and so for the first 20 minutes, nothing happened. I mentioned this when she came to check on me and she fixed the problem. When she checked on me 10 minutes later, I told her that the bed was still not THAT hot and she adjusted it some more. So out of a 60 minute wrap, maybe 30 minutes in the bed were actually hot and working. I thought they would increase my sauna wrap time to adjust for their mistake, but they did not. My third visit, the additional service of ionized spray wasn’t even offered. And, unfortunately, the bed still didn’t seem to get hot for the first 15 minutes or so. The technician was able to make some adjustments and it did eventually get hot, though so it was still a much better experience than my 2^nd visit. I have one more prepaid visit and I’m hoping this final one will be an experience similar to the first visit where the bed gets nice and hot right away and I get my money’s worth.

Tip to find the office: If you are facing the front of TJ Max (meaning your face is pointed towards the front), the office will be a couple of stores down on your left hand side. It will have a big red «Chiropractor» sign above it.
My personal experience: I got a $ 28 Livingsocial deal for a ’60-​Minute Infrared Sauna Wrap with Aromatherapy’ here. The experience overall was positive. I arrived around 3 pm when my appointment was actually at 4. The office wasn’t *officially* open until 3:30 pm, according to the receptionist, but she worked me into her schedule and got me choosing my scent for the aromatherapy and into the infrared sauna wrap in no time. Her name was Angie by the way and she was very nice and accommodating. The sauna wrap was very cocoon-​like and got me falling asleep for about 30 minutes or so… and then it all went down hill from there. I woke up sweating like a pig… not that I wasn’t before, but now I was actually feeling extremely ‘uncomfortably’ hot. The fan wasn’t on which was a huge mistake on my part. MAKE SURE THE FAN IS ON WHEN YOU GET IN YOUR WRAP. I was staring at that fan for what seems like a decade wishing I could whisper some incantations to make the blades spin. Angie told me that she would check on me every 10 minutes but it felt like forever until I saw her poked in again. The fan didn’t alleviate the heat much and that last 10 minutes were the longest. Believe it or not, I had to practice a lot of perseverance and self control to keep myself from breaking out of that wrap.
(A note on the aromatherapy aspect of the session, I had a cold so I couldn’t smell much of the grounding blend that I had chosen… Angie recommended the peppermint scent for my stuffy nose, but I don’t like minty things so I didn’t get much out of the aromatherapy to write about it.)
Things that could have been improved:
1) I felt as if the office was understaffed. There were tons of people in the back laying on adjustment tables and getting foot baths and new patients waiting in the front but only 3 staff members visible. Angie was in such a hurry to get certain tasks done that I felt like she wasn’t doing her best job. She could have made me feel more comfortable if she wasn’t juggling ten million things at the front desk.
2) The towel that I was given at the end of the session was the size of my palm. How can I dry the sweat off of my body with this tiny towel? Add on to that, the towel wasn’t even wetted or chilled.
3) There are grammar errors on the brochures. Please check.
Overall, I felt a bit lighter but I believe this was largely due to the water loss. I am telling you… I was literally sweating a river. Currently, I don’t see any definitive results as I just ate a mountain of food but I will keep you updated. Apparently, you’re not supposed to until several days later when the toxins and fat cells leave your body through urination and defecation.
Oh, I might be back because I am thinking of trying their body wraps but I’m still a bit skeptical.

Like the others, I got a LivingSocial Deal and agree it is definitely not a spa. The detox was a bit gross and I am not sure how much it really worked. However, the massage therapist did an AWESOME job!
The front is a bit different, but if you know that it is by TJ Maxx and Subway, it is pretty easy to find.

I got a living social deal for the massage and foot detox and I have to agree with pretty much everything Chunnu said in her review. Trying to find the place was a bit confusing and I did try to call them to find out exactly where it was but had to leave a message. I didn’t hear back but found it soon afterwards. When I got to the center, there was no one there at the reception. A few of the people who worked there did see me come in, sitting there, and looking around for someone but no one came for the longest time to help out. They did help other people out though which was a bit strange. The place does not look like a spa and it’s not intended to be one so if you are looking for the spa type feel, you may as well not come.
After someone finally came by, they did get me in for my massage which was great! The masseuse did a great job and really worked at trying to get the knots in my back and neck out.
The 30 minute foot detox was interesting. I wish they had done the detox first since the massage was more relaxing. As mentioned they do put you in the back of the practice, sitting in a massage chair with your feet in the warm water bath. There’s some sort of machine that regulates your body and removes the toxins. The color is kind of nasty but it’s interesting watching the color change. I don’t feel any different so I can’t say if it did anything.
I would maybe go back for a massage if it were closer and the prices are pretty cheap.

3.5 — Now, let’s keep in mind this is a chiropractic, not a spa. Wipe any image of a spa out of your head. Out, I say! Out! It’s too bad it’s not a day spa really, because my massage was all sorts of amazing. I bought a deal on LivingSocial for $ 49 I received a 1 hour massage and 30 minute detox.
Despite not being a day-​spa, I will say that they did a pretty great job setting up the massage room — dim lights, soft music, a couple calming pictures, and there was a heating pad in the bed. My masseuse, was amazing, and for being pregnant did a far better job than any non-​preggo masseuse I’ve had. I don’t like sissy massages and this was far from it — she had some strong freaking hands!
My 30 minute foot detox was more interesting and disgusting than anything else. They have you in the back of the practice, sitting in a chair with your feet in a warm water bath and attached to some machine that measures or regulates something in your body. Basically, you just sit there and watch the water change colors from all the nasty «toxins» in your body — gross. I didn’t really notice any changes in my body though (other than my feet feeling incredible soft afterward.)
Go back for a massage? Heck yeah! I am usually chalk full of questions and these ladies knew their stuff and gave me helpful information to enhance my brain powers :)
