Discovery Oaks Academy

Great staff, low classroom size, affordable high quality care, very open-​minded and approachable owner, many enrollment options to select from! My child when enrolled here less than a year ago was a non-​speaker, today a chatterbox, who loves her preschool teachers and friends. In short, this review is from a very happy parent!

The teachers who have been there long-​term are wonderful, especially Ms. Craig. They are very supportive of the children and encouraging, excellent parent contact. They are the reason this review is four stars.
I am not a fan of the new owner and I am not sure about the newer teachers. The new owner is intrusive and seems far more interested in money than she is in the children. All costs sky-​rocketed when she took over and she asks personal questions to attempt to hard-​sell parents on enrolling additional children, whether or not those children are appropriate for the program. Additionally, parents were told that there would be language and other enhanced subjects last year (2014 – 2015) that never happened. The new owner is the reason this review isn’t five stars.

Our son started Discovery Oaks for their summer camp program in June and we liked it so much we decided to keep him there for kindergarten. They have small classes, great learning materials, and attentive teachers. Plus they don’t skip art and foreign language classes like most public schools do.
The school sits next to Claude Moore park, so they are surrounded by trees and have a HUGE play area in the back where they get to run and play.
Compared to the other private schools in the area, this one was by far the most affordable; I highly recommend it to any parent looking for another option.

Have had our son here for the last 1.5 years.

The school has been around for over 30 years. Our pre-​school teacher has been with the school over 26 years — we love her. As a matter of fact the teacher who has been here the shortest amount of time is 6+ years. Low turn over speaks volumes for the children’s environment/​programs.
The school is located on 4 acres backing to a park. They have an awesome playground. The curriculum is literature based. They offer: pre-​school, pre-​K, full day kindergarten, afterschool care, mommy & me classes, & summer camp.
If you are looking for a school, make an appointment. You won’t be disappointed!
