Rising Sun Karate

After emailing other karate locations with no response. My husband decided to just walk into this place and inquire about their program and we are pleased that we choose this location. All the sensei’s are amazing and have a lot of patience working with our son who has high functioning autism. Our son has gained a lot of self confidence and his coordination has improved.

I signed up for an introductory course to see if my three year old son would like it. I was surprised to see that his selective attention was really focused on the instructor and the lesson plan. The classes are great for him to learn techniques for effective listening and learning.

The best martial arts in SCV. Excellent instructors and friendly staff. My kids love it.

Beyond the fact that Rising Sun creates Champions, Sensei Randy Word creates great human beings that have incredible martial arts skills. From youth to adult programs I have witnessed incredible growth, respect, and commitment in the students at Rising Sun Karate West. Before my daughter’s enrollment at Rising Sun Karate Academy I had no exposure to what goes on in a martial arts dojo. My only perception of karate schools was what I remember from the 80’s Karate Kid movie depicting impressionable kids carrying out the orders of a militant, merciless and unethical leader. Who can forget the line «Sweep the leg!».
The Rising Sun Karate experience is the opposite of the fictional Cobra Kai dojo in the movie. RSKA instructors are supportive, inspiring, creative. The school operates with integrity and good principles. My child enjoys going to class and likes the high energy environment. Students are respectful to each other and motivate one another to do better through example and competition. The technical instruction has strong emphasis on technique and fundamentals. This type of curriculum sets a strong base on which students can further build skills and abilities towards various aspirations. Recently my daughter has shown interest in entering karate tournaments and the Rising Sun training prepared her well for competition, winning under challenging conditions.
The staff’s personal care, attention to student development, and positive character-​building values make Rising Sun unique. Emphasis in following-​through to achieve goals extend beyond class walls and surface in other parts of life. My daughter’s discipline in academic study and eagerness to do well in elementary school is positively reinforced by RSKA. Confidence, self-​worth and good decision-​making skills are just some of the benefits of a martial arts background.
My daughter is continuously challenged physically and mentally. Achieving success by overcoming challenges and applying thoughtful, dedicated effort is an important life lesson that needs to be self-​realized (not just instructed) in order to take hold. Rising Sun gives her a good way to experience how to build success for herself.

My 6^th-​grader son enjoys his twice-​a-​week classes at Rising Sun Karate. Having previously earned a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do, he, under close instructions of competent instructors, has no difficulty learning mixed martial arts movements, forms, and techniques. He’s getting stronger muscles and building stamina from these classes.
His instructors teach him and his classmates discipline and focus. They each have a weekly task sheet that has to be signed by a parent. I like that the system helps track what students do at home in terms of duties and responsibilities. It’s a good, easy-​to-​do yardstick for good behaviors.
Don’t think that their unison reply «Yes, Sir!» is superficial, it indeed represents powerful lungs, especially after a vigorous workout of 45 minutes. These kids are doing something good! Drills are exciting and challenging. Classes are fun. The Dodge Ball game is one of their favorites.
The school is located in the same Chuck E. Cheese’s retail mall between The Old Road and Stevenson Ranch Parkway. Parking is free and unassigned. Traffic in and out of the school is easy to navigate.

If you are hoping to have your child sail away on a giant karate balloon or ride a rainbow colored unicorn while holding his or her 5^th place kata trophy, then you’ve come to the wrong dojo folks. Thank you RSKA for teaching the kids and parents about hard work and determination in a positive, action-​packed atmosphere and for not simply chasing the money train. And it’s nice to know that if needed — the students if forced to defend themselves can do so.

We moved to the Santa Clarita area in 2008 and looked at several schools for my 3 boys and myself. We stopped when we found Rising Sun Karate. RSKA has a solid and varied program for young children, teenagers and adults. The curriculum includes weapons, traditional and «americanized» katas, jujutsu, MMA, Thai kickboxing and even traditional American Boxing.
The atmosphere is fun, positive and inclusive. The Senseis are well trained and do a fantastic job teaching beginners to advanced students. Kyoshi Frank and Master Randy Word have put together a program that teaches kids discipline along with solid, practical martial arts technique, while keeping it fun and physical. The adult program is challenging and physical — you will get into shape!
I highly recommend this school.

My son has been with RSKA West Coast since the age of 4, he’s now 12 years old and this dojo is part of his foundation and lifestyle. I’m grateful to the expertise and professionalism of this excellent martial arts school and highly recommend it.
I feel it adds the extra dimension our children need to become even better in their lives in a healthy, fun and disciplined way. All the senseis, Master Word and Kyoshi Frank truly care about the students and I also enjoy seeing my own son mentoring the young students with what he’s learned from Rising Sun Karate.

My five year old son has been going to RSKA for 1 year. Since he started his attitude and focus have been amazing. The best thing in the eyes of this parent (since his first week) is when you use the word «discipline», he stops everything he is doing and gives immediate focus to his parents.
My 12 year old has been training for 5 years. He has learned the confidence to stand up for himself as well as control his thoughts and temper.
The teachers make class fun, disciplined and physical and educational. They focus on developing the student into person they could be. The teachers at school state they apperciate the manners and focus the kids learn in karate.
