Well done bar, good view over the parking lot to the river. But the beer is terrible, our second trip in to try again hoping the beer had been upgraded. Yesterday 6−5−16 we tried a flight of beers. The flight holder was full of caked on dust. 4 of 5 beers were gross. The owner must be the brew Meister. Oatmeal stout coffee? Maple flavored beer? As a local I hope you regroup Good Luck!

I come here at least once per year with my girlfriends when we take a quick break from our wine tour. They are fairly new, so I have only done this twice. We always start with a flight, which last year was 5 beers and this year 10! I do enjoy when there are more than 3 beers offered at a brewery. Maple Island serves a little of everything for those into beer! I personally don’t like IPAs, sour or coffee beers. If that’s your thing they have a few options for you: White Butt IPA(lol), Ryedin High, Hop Clown, and Cup of Joe Freakshow. There are 2 beers here that I found tasty. The Maple Island Bock, is always on the menu. It is made with pure maple syrup, but isn’t that sweet on the tongue. Secondly, the Burlesque Kolsch is one of their lighter beers. It is nice to drink on a warm summer afternoon overlooking the water. The all wooden interior is amazing! I think this would be an awesome venue to rent out for weddings receptions, parties or other events. One time I was here there was live music and it worked well within the space.

The beer tastes flat and watered down. Not much flavor — very disappointing! I have been to many breweries and have a good taste for good beer. Also would love to see a beer on nitro!

Awesome location. Good beer. Free popcorn. Fun place to sit outside and enjoy a flight of beer while looking at the beautiful St. Croix River.

A couple of buddies and I took a road trip to Stillwater to have an AMAZING lunch at Smalley’s BBQ and hit a new tap room, Maple Island, which is on the main drag, about 3 blocks from Smalley’s. The place is pretty small, but they pack a lot of stainless into what they have. My buddies got a flight of 10 beers and I got a Maple Bock pint. Very full bodied beer and I could taste the wonderful hints of maple in it. Yummy. I tried their blueberry wheat and they have an ice cream beer that tasted like Reese’s peanut butter cup beer, but both were solid. They said they put 60 pounds of ice cream and peanut butter in their according to my friend. It was a hot and muggy day, so I would have preferred a little more A/C in the place, but a nice view of the St. Croix River and the beer was a great end to a fun day trip.

Wow, for being ins such a great spot how disappointing. The place is filthy. Needs a cleaning. Not sure what is worse the popcorn machine or the table tops. YUCK.

This was another great find in the lovely city of Stillwater! We were there during the Stillwater Live Music Days, so we got to listen to some live tunes as we enjoyed a good tasting beer flight on a hot and steamy day! They offer two different flights(one with 5 beers and one with 10 beers). We chose the 5 beer flight and were happy with each of them that was included. Our favorite was the Tight Rope Hefeweisen and the Crunch Berry Cream Ale. .. super good! It’s a fun and laid back atmosphere with much of the brewing equipment out and viewable for people to see. Be sure to check it out next time you’re in town!

I really enjoyed my time at Maple Island Brewing this past weekend. I will definitely go back next time I am in Stillwater. Unlimited free popcorn, which I’m always a fan of, and the beer prices were extremely reasonable. $ 5 for a glass and $ 10 for a flight. My group all got flights and it was fun to try them all and the same time and talk about which ones we liked and why. My personal favorite was the Maple Island Bock. I’ve never had a beer with a maple syrup flavor, and I really liked it. Nice space, friendly staff and there were a good number of people there which is always a good sign. I’m looking forward to my next Stillwater trip!

I walked into the bar and from the looks on everyone’s faces, I apparently wasn’t supposed the be there. I sat down with my book and the bartender comes over with a bewildered look on his face, non-verbally asking me if I walked in the right door. I tell him that I like stouts and porters(common dark beer styles) and I ask for a sample. He seemed surprised by my preferences and hands me two beers to try– One is bubbly and golden, the other is light and sweet. Not what I had asked for or was interested in. I finally found a menu on the wall that mentioned a brown ale, another common style. It was ok. The other bartender, Gwen, swooped in and saved the day, creating a mix draft of the saison and the brown ale on tap. It’s ok place to relax for a while, but I didn’t stay for a second beer.

After finishing a wine tasting next door at the winery our group decided it was time for a beer to wash the wine taste out of our mouth. Maple Island Brewery sat right next door so we decided to check it out. I have never heard of this place before and I live in the area. They don’t have a 3rd party distributor so you’re not likely to see these beers far outside of the tap room. These kind of breweries are my favorite for that fact alone. The tap room was one of the better ones I had ever sat and had a beer. It felt very open, you could see the big brew kettles sitting in the back of the room that was incorporated with the tap room. The other side of the large room was an two large openings onto their deck. The brewery sits right next to the St. Croix river downtown Stillwater so it sits in such a great location. The beer was pretty good too. Definitely some unique flavors, they were really trying to stand out. Julia G. and I split a «Rockstar» flight which is a sample of all nine of their beers along with the seasonal beer to make a flight of 10 beers. We were able to try every single beer that they brew and our ratings were all over the board. Some I would stay away from in the future, where others I wish I could get in my favorite bars. A couple of my favorites were the Maple Island Bock, the Two Headed Goose, and the Crunch Berry Cream Ale. These Brewers are clearly pretty creative. I will for sure come back here next time I find myself exploring downtown Stillwater.

After nice bike ride around Stillwater we entered Maple Island Brewing to try local selection of beer. We have ordered full flight which gave us a chance to taste all 10 beer. If you like lighter beers it might be a spot for you but darker selection is not impressive at all. My friend mentioned that it tasted burned to him or like cherry cough syrup. But everyone has different taste buds so it might be for you. They have nice outdoor patio and big inside space.

It’s a brewery with a view. If you’re in the Twin Cities escape capital that Stillwater is then swing by on your tour of downtown. Open air garage doors. Nearby pizza delivery ot in house Chicago dogs. And beer. 10 or so to choose from. Always changing. Music on the weekends.

Great atmosphere and addition to downtown Stillwater, but the brew could use some development. Will try again in a few months, hopefully once they are up and running for a little bit the brew will be better.

This might be one of my new favorite breweries. After an incredibly disappointing trip to Lift Bridge, my man and I ventured here hoping to enjoy some better brews. The location down by the water is really nice and picturesque, and we had no trouble finding street parking on a Friday afternoon. The space is awesome and they had live music playing, but it wasn’t so loud that you couldn’t hold a conversation(which is what I hate about most clubs and why I prefer to do my drinking at breweries). They offer a flight of 5 flagship beers or a flight of 9(flagship + seasonal). I love trying new beers, so we figured we might as well go big or go home. If you’re debating whether or not to go all out, their 5 flagship brews were all absolutely amazing, while the seasonals were interesting though not necessarily my favorites. Their Maple Island Bock tastes sweet like maple syrup without being sickening. It was so wonderful I almost bought a growler, but alas my fridge was already so full of beer I barely had room for real food. I also loved their Cranky Cherry since it was nice and tart. My favorite of all the beers we tried however, was the Witner — a hybrid Witbier/Pilsner. I’ll be honest, I usually hate those two varieties of beer, but in this case, two wrongs definitely made a right. It was slightly sweet and so so smooth. The service was great, too. Out bartender was really friendly, helpful, and seemed to genuinely love what he was doing, which is always great to see!

I came here on a quiet Wednesday night. The Voice was on the television and only a couple of people coming and going through the taproom. The brew-tender was super friendly and we soon had our flights of the 6 beers on tap. Maple Island Bock, Mosaic Wheat, The Beast IPA, Rocktober Fest, Monkey Business and Cup of Joe Freak Show were on my flight. All of them were average brews with the exception of their flagship the Maple Island Bock. It seemed to be the perfect blend of a bock with maple syrup. Luckily they had just received a shipment of new growlers, so I had one filled with the Maple Island Bock for later enjoyment. The taproom itself was quite spacious and I can see where it would fill up during the busy Stillwater days. I liked the layout and the location. Overall, I’d have to say I’m a fan of Maple Island Brewing. I look forward to seeing their brews develop and mature.

I went a week into opening and tried three of the beers. My two friends and I thought they were all were pretty bad. The best part of Maple Island Brewery was the candied popcorn they served for free. This is a great location, and I bet the patio overlooking the river will be great on a nice day. Hopefully their beer will get better as they find their way. This place had me thinking: just because you can open a brewery, doesn’t mean you should.
