Suddenlink Media Services

I am writing in regard to the administrative aspects of Suddenlink not the actual internet services. Although my students have just started with them as off campus customers, I think that the actual internet service has been fine and acceptable.
In regard to signing up and your money:
Be very careful with this company during the initial process of securing service. Make sure that you (or your students) ask a lot of questions and document everything. Make sure your student understands that the security deposit is based on their credit, if they have no credit, they will find a very large ($ 200 plus) charge withdrawn from their (or mom and dad’s) debit or credit card. Do not give them account numbers or social security number until you are sure that you have covered every possible scenario and received acceptable answers (again, get answers in writing). Our experience was that they did not explain all possible charges and procedures. Then, when a mistake is found it takes a long time for them to return money (even if it is just a matter of refunding to your card).
Again, be cautious.
A Note to OSU: If the university is still using Suddenlink, please use you influence to encourage Suddenlink to do a better job of working with customers since many of them are you students and parents of your students. It appears that this company is preying upon naïve students that have been entrusted to you.

We got our cable fixed today. We live in Bennett Hall in Oklahoma State University and missed picking up the call from the repairman from suddenlink. However, he was not mad at the trouble we caused and stayed patient when he was fixing the cable. We did not know he came here already for four to five times and had called us multiple times. We really appreciate the service provided to us. Thank you!!!

Atrocious. While their service is fairly consistent (there haven’t been too many outages), their customer service is the worst I’ve ever dealt with.
Case in point: Our on-​demand service went down. We waited a few days, and it was still down. Finally, I called them. After being on hold for over half an hour, I finally got a representative. She claimed she had fixed the problem. However, 2 hours later, the problem still hadn’t been resolved. I called them back, and was put on hold for an hour before I gave up. What’s worse, they don’t have hold music, they have Suddenlink commercials. So, the hours you spend on hold you’re listening to the same 10-​second spot over and over again. I thought that sort of thing was banned by the Geneva Convention!
Sure, they’ll also tell you that you can get help online, but that, with all due respect, is bull crap. The chat window opens, and then no one ever shows up (see attached photo). I mean, why should you be able to reach someone? It’s not like you pay these jokers $ 100+ a month!
A while ago, we went to their local office, since we were having a problem streaming the Olympics. The people there were glad to help, but couldn’t, as their internet was «all screwed up today.» That’s right: Even the people who work for Suddenlink can’t get reliable internet!
VIACOM ISSUE:
Recently, Suddenlink dropped 24 channels (those owned by Viacom) without even telling their customers. So, we woke up to no Comedy Central, no MTV, no Nick at Nite, etc. Rather than admit they’re having an issue with Viacom, Suddenlink put on a bunch of commercials that claimed they’d replaced the channels with ones that they customers had requested. With all due respect, this is BS: the channels were ones you’ve never heard of (like Pivot, The Blaze, The Comedy Channel (not Comedy Central!), and so on). And, although they’ve substantially reduced their overhead by cutting ties with Viacom, Suddenlink’s customers have yet to see any kind of discount. Again, if Suddenlink had just said «We’re having a dispute with Viacom» that would have been refreshingly honest. But the only place their customers could hear about this was from Viacom.
CLIFF’S NOTES FOR THE ABOVE: Suddenlink is shady, unresponsive, and in general doesn’t think too much of their customers. When faced with a problem, their attitude is less «what can we do to fix this?» and more «meh — what are ya gonna do?» And to top it off, now we can’t even watch The Daily Show.

Suddenlink in Stillwater, Oklahoma exemplifies why monopolies should be illegal. Nothing about this company can be called professional. I was a Suddenlink customer for five years, from 2009 – 2014, so I have many grievances, the first of which is the customer service. You cannot directly call anyone in your local area. Instead, Suddenlink has opted to supply customers with an 888 number. Before you can even begin to state your litany of complaints, you must first give the customer service agent the promise of your first born, your social security number, and a pint of blood. After your complaint is recorded by the accented agent, they will then send their best and brightest to your home to «fix» the problem. Only one repairman or installation agent I encountered weighed less than five hundred pounds. Most could barely waddle themselves up to the front door, much less bend over or rewire the home. They seemed far more interested in visiting with my pets than they were in doing their job — which was evident since in the summer of 2013, I had to have three different repairmen come to my home to fix my cable and Internet wires throughout the house. The reason that prompted me to finally write this review today is because I just received yet another bill from Suddenlink, when last month I discontinued service (in the parlance that Oklahomans understand, «Alleluia!) and I paid, what I was told, was the final bill. Suddenlink loves to keep their customers guessing, so now I get to fork over more money to them because I failed to return equipment that they never told me I had to return. (And trust me, I repeatedly asked what I had to return so as to avoid just this situation). I would say to avoid Suddenlink all together, but the company seems to prey on small towns that have no other option for cable and Internet. The citizens are forced to pay an obscene amount of money for service that is equivalent to tying a wire hanger to the top of the T.V., hoping to catch a wave length.
