The Brookside Optometric Group is the largest independent practice of Optometry in CA with 14 doctors to assist you. Our Doctors have over 50 years of combined teaching experience at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.

We specializes in total Optometric eye care for their patients. Our Doctors check your entire visual system to determine which glasses or contact lenses will best meet your visual needs.

Our Doctors have the latest technology to check the health status of your eyes including an evaluation for glaucoma, diabetic or hypertensive changes to the eyes, macular degeneration and for dry eye. Our doctors can also treat most common eye conditions including glaucoma, pink eye, foreign body removal, iritis, allergy care and dry eye.

Our Doctors have 20 years experience in managing over 30,000 cases of LASIK surgery and can assist you in making that decision.

We have extended hours to be available to patients 6 days a week including most evenings. and with over 1500 glasses frames to choose from we know we can satisfy anyone’s sense of style.

History

Established in 1975.

While our first doctor began practicing in Stockton in 1975 it wasn’t until 1998 that three of the largest optometric practices in Stockton: San Joaquin Optometric Group, Skinner Optometry and Valley Optometric Care combined to become Brookside Optometric Group.

We created Brookside Optometric Group to be able to provide extended hours for our patients, to allow us to acquire technologically-​advanced equipment to better care for our patients, to have an in-​house lab, to be able to have access to any and all contact lenses necessary to fit any need and to provide our patients with a frame inventory of over 1,500 frames to suit any desired style. Banding together allowed us the number of doctors necessary to handle these extended hours, share the costs of newer computerized diagnostic equipment and share a frame inventory to maximize patient selection.

Dr. Scheer and her staff are over-​the-​top fabulous. I first saw Dr. Scheer when my Lafayette optometrist referred me to her because my eyes had changed over the years, and no longer worked so well together, and he thought I would benefit from Dr. Scheer’s expertise with more complicated situations like mine. Dr. Scheer was very friendly/​approachable and took her time to make sure the prescription was right while she addressed my questions and concerns. Her prescription was dead-​on, and for the first time in decades, from my car, I could see the crispy fall leaves on the street, standing up in in full relief (it was like watching a 3-​D movie.) I had forgotten that things used to look like that. What a gift! Flash forward 3 – 4 years, and my eyes continued to change. When Dr. Scheer left Lafayette for Stockton, I found her on the internet, and, based on my prior experience with her, chose to drive to Stockton in order to be assured of having the best sight possible for me with updated glasses. Again, I was so happy with the entire experience. Dr. Scheer again took her time to make sure all was right, and her staff: Carol, Jennifer, and Cherise were equally caring and attentive to make sure my new glasses met my hopes for appearance and comfort (as well as vision.) Stockton is quite a ways from me. .. but I would drive to L.A. if necessary in order to be able to see this well again. Thank you!!!

Best eye exam every — spent lots of time with me and did not feel rushed. I highly recommend Dr. Hisaka. Very kind hearted. I found the rest of the staff to be very helpful. I got a pair of glasses here over a year ago … and felt they had a good selection of quality frames and reasonable prices. I highly recommend this group.

My children and I have been patients of Dr. Truong for about 4 years now and have no plans of going anywhere else. He has always been so gracious, friendly and personable and remembers everything about our interests, hobbies and makes the kids feel right at home. I never feel like he’s trying to up sell or make us pay for things that aren’t necessary. The office staff has always been extremely professional and helpful and the ladies who help with the ordering of glasses are great in helping select frames. I am so glad I found Brookside and will never go anywhere else.

It is very unfortunate that the front desk staff quality is quite poor here at this office now. I have been coming to Brookside Optimetic since my oldest daughter was a baby and now she is 24. The staff this morning was very rude and disrespectful to talk to me as if I don’t understand English! For some reason I had to repeat myself twice for what I needed as if I do not speak English well. The only reason I am coming back is because my family and I have been with the doctors for such a long time.

The entire process took 1.5 hours!
I scheduled an appointment and was called in shortly. I had the eye exams performed within 15 minutes but I sat in the office waiting for the doctor for nearly 30 minutes!
The doc took a look at my eyes and see what lenses I needed. Then I was sent to pick out frames. Then to pay.
All in all, I had to see 5 different people to complete this process (1. Reception 2. Eye exam 3. Doctor 5. Frame fitting 6. Payment). I just wish the doctor had not waited so long to see me considering I had an appointment. Charting in the iPad took a majority of his time when he was in the office with me. By the time I was done, my husband was losing his head with the two toddlers and newborn in the car.
Also, no one seem too thrilled to be working so late. I got in at 5:30pm and left at 7pm.

Got my eyeglasses here a month ago and I’m glad I came here. One of the technicians that was helping me pick out frames was really helpful and she was nice enough to pull different frames that are close to my preference. She worked with me on my budget/​coverage and I didnt feel like I was being pressured.

My whole family has been coming to the Brookside Optometric Group for many years (20+?) and we couldn’t be happier! The office staff is pleasant, courteous and efficient. We never have to wait long to be seen. They’re equipment is state of the art. Our doctors (Bob and Rosemary Melrose) are patient and thorough– always eager to explain what they’re doing and why it’s important. They have excellent bedside manners; they’re true old-​school professionals.
In addition to routine exams and care, Bob helped me through a successful Lasik eye surgery years ago. Also, he’s been monitoring a «freckle» in one my eyeballs for years (thankfully, it’s just a freckle). Glad they’re on top of it. I’d recommend these guys to anyone!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Hsu’s for over twenty years. She is a wonderful doctor and so nice. The staff is patient and so helpful. I hardly wait in the waiting room when it’s time for my appointment.
The only thing that is a bit lame is whenever I get a random call from the office, reminding me how I haven’t been in in a while. In the past, I didn’t have vision insurance and/​or I was unemployed which I told the person that called that I was unemployed and I would call them when I wanted to make an appointment. Apparently they didn’t make note of that because I just recently got another call from them.

From the staff up to the doctors, this place is top notch. My appointments have ALWAYS been on time. I think the longest I’ve waited has been five minutes past my appointment time. The doctors are always very helpful and nice. The entire process is 5 stars.

I’ve been going here to see Dr. Hisaka since i was 7 years old, and I am 23 now. The staff is very professional and friendly and Dr. Hisaka is probably the nicest guy you will ever meet in your entire life. Great selection of glasses at reasonable cost and they are always there to help!

I have been coming here for a few years. I get the best and honest advise, service and treatment, (when needed). Bob Melrose, is who I see there. His chair side manners are great, and he genuinely cares about his patients and there well being. Some doctors sell you on things you may not need right… Dont get that from him or his office at all. Some doctors leave you feeling like you were rushed, or still have questions, but you dont want to ask anymore because you can tell they are in a hurry to get you out of there office so they can see the next person. More patients, more money. Not here. Bob’s funny, caring, and actually spends time with you and makes sure all of your questions are answered before you leave. Lets face it we all want our questions answered and ask why, or how right. They will take the time and answer them for you. You actually feel like a patient there and not just another dollar symbol waiting to be seen. How many times have you felt you need to go to the doctor and think I am not going to waste half my day waiting to get in because they are over booked. We all make appointments at the doctors office, and what… wait, wait and wait some more for our name to get called. I think I waited maybe 5 minutes. Always a great experience when I am here. Thanks Bob for being the ethical Doctor you are.

Dr. Laurel rocks, and is a jewel! And Dr. Laurel is the one who picked out my eye glasses to boot! Everyone at Brookside Optometric aims to please. Although I did have an issue with my sun glasses that I ordered, every time I called in the issue, it was «no problem.,» They told me to bring the glasses back in, and they would see that the problem was resolved… Thank you Office Mangers Danisa, & Jennifer! Went to find out they’re selling contacts more expensive than Costco and other online contacts 30% +, very unhappy. Then if I return they charge restocking fees. Drs are great but prices are expensive. I won’t be buying my contacts here. My previous optometrist price match Costco for some reason I trusted this place to do same. But they didn’t. Sad.

A day after I left this review, an employee who works in the billing department contacted me stating that after speaking with Dr. Vanover they decided to allow me to keep my contacts without paying the additional fee. I am very happy that they went above and beyond shortly after the problem started. I will continue visiting Dr. Vanover. Thank you again for taking care of me.

I’ve seen Dr. Vo Laurel and her staff at Brookside for the past 2 years. Their customer service definitely pushes me to give them the 5 stars. However, it is their expertise that really wanted me to give them the max stars.
I have fairly difficult eyes with a really high prescription. I’ve also had some eye surgery in the past. The techs took the time they needed to get to the correct photographs of my eyeballs so that the doctor can properly assess my situation.
I’ve been to eye doctors before and they’ve pushed me out as soon as they could. I definitely felt welcome and felt that I was getting the best service.
I received my contacts, glasses & sunglasses order in a timely manner. No complaints there!
