Lilo said it best, «Ohana means family, and no one is left behind.». Well, you may ask, how does that relate to a caterer? I don’t consider Malia as a caterer, I consider her part of my ohana, you know «da kine» aunties and tutus and tatays that are in da backyard and kitchen, prepping and cooking up a feast for the rest of the fam. Plus it helps that the food is just as ono!
This time around, we had a smaller party (50 – 75) at Micke Grove park, with delivery. Our planning was off to a late start, which left us with 6 week window to book. I used the «request a quote,» option through Unilocal,and Malia gave me a call back in 4 days. We were thankful she was available to deliver food for Father’s Day, our event date. She disclosed upfront that it is her busy time, but can take on the catering. During the time of initial call and event, I tweaked our menu twice. We received the revised quote by week 3. Some might find this wait to be nerve wracking. But please be assured, it’s part of the process. Once Malia tells you she’s available, she’s available… just be patient and let the business part move along because the food does not disappoint.
This time around, we ordered Garlic Shrimp, Short Ribs, Teriyaki Wings, Maui Chili, Island Salad, and Ahi Poke. All were super tasty, in local speak, «brah, ono grindz, broke da mouth!». Seriously, the chili taste like Zippy; the Island Salad with its dressing, nice balance of sweet and tang; garlic shrimp, were of good size and finger licking garlicky goodness; short ribs were tender, island flavor, meaty; and the teriyaki wings, better than my mom’s, and this is one of my mom’s specialties.
I can’t wait for our next milestone to celebrate, just so I can call my sistah to kokua in da kitchen. Much mahalos Malia!

After reading all of the fabulous reviews, i decided to call them and inquire about having a 50^th birthday party catered. i initially called on Friday, June 10, 2016. The voice message stated that they would return calls when they returned on Monday, June 13, 2016. No problem. I left a message and also e-​mailed my questions. Today is June 17, 2016 (4:00pm) and STILL no response from them at all via phone or e-​mail. The same voicemail message was playing as recent as yesterday. I have left several messages during various times of the day in an attempt to contact them. I decided to give it one last try a moment ago. Alas! The voice mail message has been changed… Butttttttt no one can return my call or e-​mail. That is just BAD business. It’s actually kinda ghetto. With that said because it’s now a week later, i wouldn’t recommend them to anyone and i haven’t even tasted the food. If this is the way they conduct their business, their livelihood, than I’d rather not take any chances. It appears that they don’t really care about being a professional establishment and obviously have enough existing customers that they don’t want any new ones. Well word of mouth is the quickest way to let others know that they’re better off going some place else. So here you go… Mahalo
Update: It’s 06÷17÷16 at 4:45pm and It’s good to know that although they never responded to my calls or e-​mails even after reading this review that they will quickly respond to any reviews posted about them on Unilocal :(

I was throwing a luau for my boyfriend’s surprise birthday party and wasn’t sure where to find food to fit the theme. I found Malia on Unilocal and called to ask if she could feed 35 people on my budget. She was so flexible and accommodating. Not to mention, the food was delicious! Everyone was so happy and asking where the food came from. Please do not hesitate to hire Malia for your party. She’s so pleasant and warm and she makes delicious food! Thank you so much Malia! Your food made the party!

Malia was fabulous to work with. I am rooted in the guest service Industry and she lived up to it! I ordered for apx 60 ppl. and all I had left over was ½ pan of rice and some ribs. The large pan of children was devoured and so was the garlic shrimp. In case you are not familiar, it has cracked shell on but slid right off. She was responsive, timely and flexible. Thank you Malia, everyone said the food was great and asked where it came from. I don’t normally throw parties so compared to the taco lady that comes to your house, Yes it costs more but it was worth it to me so no one was stuck cooking. My goal was for everyone to enjoy themselves and they did.

Due to my poor planning, I missed out on the date I wanted, but Malia’s customer service is next level! If nothing else, utilize this business, JUST for its customer service. We will hire them in the future, just based on our phone conversation.
Even though the dates were booked, Malia spent the time to offer up alternative suggestions and ideas. It is that extra effort that sets her apart from any other caterer I have used!

Hawaiian Legacy Catering & Design is one of the best caterers I’ve ever had! My company was looking for a delicious and unique food option for our Holiday party and saw the perfect reviews on Unilocal for Hawaiian Legacy, so we checked them out. We gave them one call and within minutes the owner Malia immediately set us up with a menu and different pricing options to suit our needs. The entire process was hassle-​free and within a day or two we had the entire party set up and read to go.
The day of the party, Malia and her assistant came early and had everything ready to go right on schedule. Now came the best part: THE FOOD. Oh my GOODNESS was the food DELICIOUS!!! I couldn’t have asked for anything better! The variety was terrific– from veggie and fruit platters to the teriyaki chicken skewers to the Hawaiian meatballs to the potato shooters to the lumpia to the sweet pulled pork sandwiches– oh man, I could still name everything I had that day! And there was so much left over, even after 50+ people had eaten 2 or more plates!
And to top it all off, Malia was just an overall amazing person. She was very kind and fun and provided a great experience for our company. The setup and cleanup happened without anyone being asked to lift a finger, the food was awesome, and the prices were much more affordable than other caterers we have used in the past.
I would strongly recommend Hawaiian Legacy Catering & Design to anyone looking for a fun, affordable, and ridiculously delicious catering company to serve their next big gathering!

Malia is a very sweet woman. She fit us in to her busy schedule on short notice and worked with our budget. She did an amazing job cooking and setting up all the food for our daughter’s first birthday party. Everything looked great and the food was delicious. The presentation was definitely that ‘wow’ factor we were going for and our guests were very impressed. She even surprised my daughter with a beautiful Hawaiian teddy bear as a gift for her birthday. We will definitely be recommending her to our family and friends and we hope to have her cater more events for us in the future!

The food was AMAZING!!! Delivered promptly and had sooooo much! Our guests truly enjoyed all the wonderful dishes and were able to take some home from our Baby Shower! Malia and her crew are so nice, wonderful and respectful! She is a truly kind soul along with being an amazing chef! We loved every bite!

Was introduced to Hawaiian Legacy at a recent Unilocal event in Sacramento. The food was so delicious. I especially enjoyed the Pineapple cake which was «slap yo mama» good. The kalua pork was so tender and juicy. Unfortunately, I do not know all of the items served that night but I do know that all were full of flavor and I know this sounds kind of silly but you could taste the love that went into making that food. The owner was there and she was so delightful. She had a sweet smile that showed her sincere love for what she does with Hawaiian food.

Pineapple cake was great! Kalaua pork had crazy flavor. The crispy wonton-​y thingy the pork was sitting on was a treat. I’d eat a dozen of those and I’m not normally into that kind of thing.
I feel as though I am letting my 47 fans down by not working the phrase «da kine» into this review. I am just not feeling clever today.

I first encountered Hawaiian Legacy Catering at the Sacramento Aloha Festival two years back. It’s rare that I actually remember who is catering the food for an event, but their delicious, authentic Hawaiian dishes were so amazing that the name of their company was branded in my mind.
The proof is on every plate: shoyu chicken, kalbi beef, chicken teriyaki. It’s all finger-​licking good, and just smelling the food as they prepare it is enough to make your mouth water. I can still taste the kalbi beef ribs and their unique sweet and savory flavor. It’s honestly some of the best catered food I’ve ever had.
Besides serving up great eats, Malia and her crew are just about the nicest, laid back group of people I’ve encountered. They are professional and timely and can meet the needs of any event.
Now it’s two years later and I asked Malia and her crew to cater a private event I’m organizing. Whether you are organizing a party formal or casual, and no matter the theme, call Hawaiian Legacy and give some Hawaiian food a try! Mahalo!

Wow! This place rocks. Hawaiian Legacy did our event last month and the food was stunning. She made a pork that was moist and melted in your mouth. It was the best pork and salad with home made wonton chips (fresh and delicious) I ever had. The decorations were great and the staff were extremely pleasant. Then they brought out dessert that was excellent, pineapple cake. I would highly recommend Hawaiian Legacy Catering and Design. I only heard rants and raves from all the guest. Every time I have had Hawaiian Legacy Catering & Design, it has exceeding my expectations. Malia is amazing at her craft and I highly recommend having her cater your next event!
