Excellent and authentic Detroit Coney’s… Service is slow but worth the wait if you’re not in a rush

Here’s why this place gets five stars…
1. Really good food. We aren’t exactly talking about a fancy restaurant here so how do I judge the food? It was fresh, tasted really good, and their corned beef is definitely from Detroit, it just tastes better. I should have gotten the corned beef steamed rather than toasted because toasting a corned beef sandwich on Rye always dries it a little. That is my fault, not theirs. The portions were big, I was full afterward and I am no small guy. The hot dog I took a bite of was a Koegel’s, which means good, and the chili was Detroit style, thick and meaty with the right flavor, not spicy or sweet, just right.
2. The service was friendly. Not only our waitress, but the owner too. I am from Michigan (that’s the motor city connection) and the owner came out and chatted with me for a while. He also was very friendly to the other guests and had a big smile, asked how the food was and if we needed anything. That is someone who cares about their business.
3. The building was clean. Enough said.
4. I want to go back. Any place that makes me really want to go back and try something else deserves at least 3 – 4 stars, and after seeing the wings I have to go back and try them. I will be a regular at Motor City Coney Island as long as I am in the area.
5. Notice the negative reviews are people who say ‘Hey I’m from Brooklyn’ or ‘Ohio’…Skyline, really? That place is trash compared to this. I feel one reviewer just wants to bag on Detroit because he is from Brooklyn, his review is ridiculous and mildly offensive. One or two people may have had a poor experience there but the reviews are ridiculous. Maybe someone was having a bad day, who knows. Also, big deal the guy sells merchandise, he is proud to be from Detroit, I saw four different people buy Detroit apparel when I was in there and he never actually ‘asked’ anyone to buy anything.
All in all this place has good food, a relaxed atmosphere and nice people.

Okay, but pricey for the quality. I was expecting it to be great, but was disappointed.

This place is disgusting! Please don’t waste your time and money… The turkey burgers are frozen patties… Ughhh! and the coney dogs… Well let’s just say I wouldn’t give them to my dog! Ughh! I’m from the midwest, Ohio to be exact… Gold star, skyline just name a few are delicious! This place is terrible!

If you’re looking for the authentic down home taste of Coney’s out of Flint and Detroit Michigan you will not go wrong at Motor City Coney’s. Each time we go the co-​owner always comes and greets us with a warm smile, friendly conversation and excellent food. The portions are more than sufficient, and they even have Better Made Chips as well as Faygo Pop and Now and Laters!!! Great spot for a Saturday lunch, or even dinner. Those that are from Michigan will appreciate these little subtleties…
The experience is always consistent, and we’ve met other friends here as well who also give the place high marks. There’s always a nice flow of patrons coming and going and I’ve yet to have a negative experience while dining at this establishment. It’s a good way to have food that reminds you of that Michigan feeling without leaving Atlanta. They’re also hiring and teaching the teenage kids business skills when dealing with the public, which I personally appreciate as these guys understand the importance of equipping our youth with people skills and fundamental skillsets…

Omg, delicious genuine Coney dogs! My bf, from Detroit, is in love. Their chili is awesome and the hot dogs have that snap to them, reminiscent of a true northern hot dog. And they have Faygo sodas… We will definitely be back!
Perfect spot to grab lunch or dinner after a visit to Stone Mountain, its only one exit up from the park on the highway. Also, they have a room you can book for parties, etc. — great for a kid’s birthday or whatever.
