The Watchmaker

I have been going to The Watchmaker for just under a year now. The staff there is fantastic. I have recently had the opportunity to deal David and he is fantastic. He was helpful, straight forward and honest. Watch repair is expensive so anyone who complains about that; shame on you! I will continue to bring my watches their with confidence.

I recently purchased an Oris depth guage which needed some attention, I contacted Oris and they referred me to their service center, ‘The watch Maker’.
I couldn’t have been happier with the level of service they provided, the manager/​owner David, was fabulous! Highly recommend!

Took my Omega Constellation for a battery replacement and bracelet clean-​up.
The store manager, Kelly, was courteous and very friendly.
The battery change and bracelet clean-​up was quick, less than an hour.
Good overall experience, I recommend.

I had a great experience at the Watchmaker. The band on my watch has been broken for awhile and while getting a battery change, I finally decided to get the band swapped as well. I dropped in with no appointment and they had my watch as good as new in less than 15 minutes. The price was reasonable, and I was happy to be able to fix my old watch rather than get a whole new one.

Everything about my experience with The Watchmaker was fantastic. I walked in with my Victorinox to get a band replaced and battery replaced. I was told no problem — they’ll do it while I wait.
I chatted with employees as I browsed watches in the gallery. When the watch was fixed and tested per the manufacturers specs I was surprised at how inexpensive the price was. I brought in the band for the watch but still thought it’d be more.
As I was being rung up I even had a little convo about the watch I was wearing at the time which was fun, too.
Overall the skill of the workmanship, pricing and demeanor of the staff was great. I highly recommend. I’d trust them with all my watches — from cheapies to nicer ones.
My only nitpick is I wish they were open later! Now that I’ve moved away from the area it’s harder to get there when they’re open.

We needed to repair our 10 years old Omega Constellation watches. The quotes we received from Omega Service center and other authorized centers were higher than the one from The Watchmaker. Initially we thought that there must be something fishy but decided to take a risk. At the end we’re highly impressed by that we got. Besides the repair we needed, The Watchmaker removed all the scratches, so our watches look like brand new! And all that at the lowest price we found!

Brought in two watches and a transmitter for a polar. Quick, accurate service. Everybody I met was polite and helpful… email to confirm repairs was detailed and accurate, price was very reasonable. I will drive the hour there for all my watch repair! Thanks, Tim M.

My husband’s Swiss Army watch needs a new circuit board so I contacted The Watchmaker via their website for an estimate but I didn’t know the model. David from the the Watchmaker was a great resource. Through email correspondence I sent him a picture of the watch and he identified the model (circa 2000) and got back to me with an estimate to replace the movement and a much-​needed new crystal. The estimate came to $ 225 and David provided some options when I questioned whether we should buy a new, comprable watch. From first contact to the estimate took 24 hours (and that was due to delays on my end). My husband is still deciding whether to repair his Swiss Army watch or buy a replacement but we’ll be going to The Watchmaker based on the outstanding online service received to date.
I’ll follow up this review once we visit The Watchmaker.

Terrible service. I went there to drop off a Victorinox watch that was under warranty. The Victorinox customer service rep told me that the watch was under warranty and to bring it to The Watchmaker in Stoneham to get it fixed. I drove all the way from Lowell and was declined service. I was told that «it’s probably not under warranty because I bought it on Amazon» — Probably? What does that mean? I definitely drove 30 miles to drop it off and I was definitely told by the company who manufactures the watch to get it fixed here. A resectable business would have confirmed their warranty concerns with the manufacturer before turning me away. A business that makes a living fixing and selling watches should be a little more respectiful of people’s time.

Getting back into a rigorous exercise routine so after 2+ years in a drawer I found my Polar FT7 watch and transmitter batteries completely dead. Looked online seeing $ 9 – 12 for each battery along with advice to have a professional replace them. I was able to pop out the batteries, walked into The Watchmaker who had the exact replacements for only $ 4 each! Went home and popped them in and units are running great

Every time my Victorinox needs a battery, I bring it here. They do the work while I wait, and for a fair price.

The service here was fine but I was disappointed that I still had to wait a week to get my polar battery replaced even though I personally took the watch to the store. If I knew that it would a week, I would just send it back to polar like I did last time and save myself the time and hassle.

How do you give these crooks less than a star. Be aware of their business practices. I will follow up with the Stonehams chamber of Commerce, the BBB and Victorinox (whom suggested them as a authorized repair service for my watch. Do yourself a service and DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

Very disappointing.
I brought an old Cyma in for a cleaning.
First I was told I would hear from them with a price within a week. After three weeks of calling and being promised a call back they quoted $ 400. for a cleaning!
I told them I would take it somewhere else, so they charged me $ 45. for my «free» estimate.
Never again.
Had the watch cleaned elsewhere for $ 75.

My polar heart monitor went dead so in spite of the 1 star review by M.J. I sent it in to The Watchmaker. 2 days later I received an aknowledgement of receipt and 4 days later I received the watch and transmitter back working. Battery replaced. $ 25 included the battery, labor and shipping.

After 2.5 years of near-​daily use, my Polar heart-​rate monitor watch battery died, so I sent it to The Watchmaker because it’s one of only six authorized service centers in the country. I’ll never make that mistake again.
They ask you to authorize a charge up to $ 75 on a credit card up front, which is the crux of my complaint. According to their repair form, a battery replacement should have cost only $ 12.95 plus return shipping. I gave them the coded transmitter as well for a battery replacement ($ 6.95) and was given an estimated turnaround of 2 – 3 days.
Ten days passed without hearing anything, so I called for a status report and they reported it had already been mailed back to me but they had replaced the transmitter «because it had failed our tests» — at a cost of $ 45.95. I’m doubtful because I was using the transmitter without the watch on Polar-​enabled cardio machines for a month before sending it in, and it worked perfectly. Had I been given the option, I would have declined a new transmitter, but they already had my credit card authorization so I was SOL.
All in all, the repair cost me $ 72 when I was expecting it to be under $ 20 plus return shipping. A brand-​new Polar HRM still under warranty costs only $ 79 on Amazon, so if I could do it over, I wouldn’t have bothered.

I wanted to have the bezel swapped on my Omega Planet Ocean. After doing a bit of research on various watch forums, the resounding concencus was to go to the watchmaker. It was a bit of a drive for me, but well worth it. The staff is knowledgeable, courteous, personable and extremely proficient. My watch was perfectly serviced. Very pleased. Although I would probably feel more comfortable sending my watch directly to Omega should it require an overahaul, but for any routine maintenance, would trust the Watchmaker.
Also, this business was very busy, which I believe speaks to its reputation as well.
A very good, reliable independent watch shop; a nice change from having to go to a large jewelry chain.

I’ve been bringing my watches here for about a decade. Yes, they can be pokey, and yes, they sometimes need to be chased to give an update.
But they fix watches. Even finicky watches like mine. Which is more than I can say for any other place I’ve attempted to have a watch repaired. When I briefly lived out of state, I’d mail my watches here; I didn’t want to try to find someone new.
Plus, they’re super-​nice, their store has cool stuff, and they know what they’re talking about.

My watched stopped suddenly, so I searched for a place to have the battery changed and was in the Stoneham area, so I stopped in at The Watchmaker. They appeared very friendly and professional, gave me a printed receipt, took my cell phone number, and I left to walk around while they checked out my watch.
About 20 minutes later, they called me back to the store. It turned out my battery was fine, they cleaned and adjusted a few things and sent me on my way, without charging me a dime. My watch now works perfectly well. I will definitely go back whenever I have any watch issues and would highly recommend The Watchmaker in Stoneham.

(To be fair, my watch isn’t a name brand priced in the $ 2500+ range these guys are used to dealing with. More like $ 300. However, it is Swiss and uses the same ETA ²⁸²⁴⁄₂ movement as a Rolex Tudor. I have no clue why they couldn’t figure out where to get parts.)
