My first trip to Stowe, VT stopped in at Stowe wine & bar. The owner Sandy is amazing, helpful and personable. She was very knowledgeable and helpful when selecting wine and beer and cheese products. I had the luxury of sitting in her very own hand crafted décor wine tasting room A MUST visit! Don’t forget to try her famous«Not yr father’s root beer float» Deliciousssss!

We checked out this place because we wanted to get some nice bottles of wine and champagne for a celebration. The entire store is very spacious with items spread out with plenty of walking space. When you enter the store, all the wine racks are located on the right and divided into their separate types. On the left side of the store, there are local products such as many different types of jams and jellies as well as vermont maple syrup. They also have a small beer assortment in the corner featuring some local beers. You can mix and match your own 4 or 6 packs so you can try different types. They also have different size beer bottles ranging from regular sized 12 oz bottles to larger 40 oz bottles. The front check out register contains a variety of different cheeses that you can buy. The owners of the store are very friendly and helpful and know their stuff. The prices here a little more expensive than neighboring stores for the same exact wine bottles. Very nice environment and a great place to buy some wine or local products!

Classy place with a high end selection of products including, but not limited to beverages, meats, and local snacks. New owners. Check it out.

My boyfriend and I stopped in just to check out the selection and I’m happy we did! Not only did they have a lot to choose from, but Sandie was super friendly and helpful. She recommended a few restaurants to try and they were all great. The store itself has a great selection and I found the prices reasonable. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone who went up there to visit!

The owners Ken & Sandy are as nice and helpful as you could ever want. They know the inventory and how to help you select. They are down to earth and make you feel like a special customer every time you enter the store. The place is quaint and absolutely fits the bill for the town of Stowe. Mom & Pop operation ran with love and passion in a ski town that warms you with the feel that you live in a snow globe. Try it out and see for yourself. I would rather patronize a store like this than give my money to a large chain operation. This is one of the places that caused me to went to move to Stowe 2 years ago and be a part of the community. Nice selection of local wine and cheese. The owner was very friendly and helpful and offered us samples of all the cheeses we were interested in. We also bought a bottle of wine as a gift which she happily wrapped up for us.

Watch for new and interesting things here under the new ownership. New owner(Ken)has 30+ years in the wine business. He has traveled to wineries all over the world, has great knowledge and a terrific palate. Look for this experience to reshape the Stowe wine scene. The new name is «Stowe Wine & Cheese»

Great selection, but inflated prices. First time I went staff was icy, but more friendly second and third time around.

Every time I’m in Stowe I have to go to this shop! Yes the wine might be a bit pricy but the wine selection isn’t what makes this place special it’s the service and the specialty cheese and pâté’! If your staying up here and are in need of some nibbles this is the place to hit.

Totally UNFRIENDLY! I don’t know if it was because we had a(well behaved) baby, or that we were tourists. Older woman laughed at us loudly and rolled her eyes dramatically after we asked which cheese was most typical of VT. Really?!? We tried some cheese. Way overpriced & ordinary. You’re better off going to any other market, or to the farmers market for superb cheeses.

It looks very nice inside the store but everything is a rip off. If you’ll compare with other places to buy wine, beer, cheese, etc. in Stowe, you’ll find all your favorite wines and champagnes are at least 20−30% higher at Mountain Cheese & Wine. If it weren’t for the tourists(who don’t have smartphones?), I bet the prices would have to drop in order for this place to survive.

I have to say, my wife and I both love the Mountain Cheese & Wine shop. Basically, if you are having a semi-decadent(or, for that matter, fully-decadent) vacation in Stowe, MC&W makes the stay complete. They have cheeses that range from Italian and English imports to the finest local products. Also available are crackers, spreads, condiments, and other treats that fit right in with a relaxing stay in Vermont. In addition to the food options available for purchase here, there is a healthy selection of beer and wine. If you are the type of person who enjoys a bite of fine food and fine drink after a nice day in the snow, Mountain Wine & Cheese is a perfect stop. It’s a quaint little spot right up the road from downtown Stowe. While there is little wrong with this store, it is worth mentioning that the reason I give four stars here is because of the prices. I work at a business in Massachusetts that sells many of the exact same items and MW&C charges double the price in many cases. My advice is to consider bringing some ingredients of your own and then filling in the blanks with the delicious treats at Mountain Wine & Cheese.

i instantly feel at home whenever i find a wine shop(or library) along my travels. Mountain Cheese & Wine has a nice open layout for browsing, selling not only wine and cheese but locally produced foodstuffs, organic treats as well as wine and cheese accoutrements. they sell Borsao, which is one of my favorites right now, though i can get it for $ 6.99 and they sell it for $ 11.99. still worth it. they have nice selection of cheeses too, and i consider myself the authority on cheese selection. it’s not a vast collection but isn’t just your typical gruyère and saint andre. try a little red dragon while you’re there, or better yet buy that bottle of Borsao and pair it with some manchego.
