Specialties
We specialize in providing a holistic protocol for our rescued dogs. Herbal supplements, vitamins, and homeopathy are the standard care for all our dogs. As well, we feed a holistic (chemical-free) kibble. We advocate a healthy diet for all our adopted dogs. We recommend a minimal vaccine protocol even though our dogs are already up to date on vaccines. We provide puppy kindergarten lessons to all our puppy adopters as well as lessons for adult dogs, at least through the summer and fall months, as we hold the lessons outside.
History
Established in 1999.
Save A Dog has been incorporated for ten years. After running the humane society out of our founder’s home for nine years, we found a nice location with a house and a barn. A local builder fixed up the barn for us with 13 kennels and a puppy room so that our dogs who haven’t found homes yet can enjoy a kuranda bed and piped-in animal healing music. Our volunteers help out around-the-clock with care and socialization.

Business Owner
Save A Dog was founded by husband and wife team, Shirley Moore and David Bernier. We have the combined skills of previous shelter experience and numerous dog evaluation training classes and workshops. Shirley is trained as a homeopathic practioner and provides holistic advice and education to the adoption community as well as to the volunteers of Save A Dog. Our rescue work often brings us to rural shelters where there is a pet overpopulation problem. As we have a bit of a shortage of young, adoptable dogs in the North East, we are able to offer many of the southern dogs a great opportunity to be rescued and adopted into loving homes. These dogs tend to be friendly and generally forgiving of any neglect they may have experienced at the hands of humans. By offering adoptable dogs to people in the New England area our goal is to save lives while providing a good resource of dogs to people who might have otherwise unknowingly supported a puppy mill by buying a dog from a pet store.
