Debbie’s Swim School teaches everything from basic stroke mechanics to instructor and certification classes. All swim lessons are private or semi private with one on one attention. Each and every lesson is tailored to the students needs focusing on your swim goals. Specializing in teaching individuals with Aquaphobia. We always use a gentle and encouraging approach celebrating each milestone of achievement as you swim your way to success. Every step of the way we explain what to expect in the water. How to float and why your body does float. We want you to be comfortable and go at a pace that is right for you. Now is the time to accomplish your goals! Everyone deserves to feel comfortable, safe, and empowered by the water.

History

Established in 1992.

Debbie’s Swim School was founded in 1992 and is a fast-​growing company in the Bay Area and greater Sacramento area. We strive for the highest standard of excellence in swim instruction and are a leader in the Aquatic Industry. We teach all levels of swimmers, specializing in everything from basic stroke mechanics to advanced life-​saving techniques. The mission of Debbie’s Swim School is to prevent drownings and help people achieve their swimming goals. We do this by creating a positive learning experience for all students no matter their skill level, anywhere from ages 6 months to adults. Each instructor conducts a safe, effective lesson and serves as a resource for individual or class participants, allowing them to achieve their goals and sense of well-​being.

Business Owner

Debbie Koenig has been teaching for over 20 years. She is passionate about water safety and teaching people to swim and overcome their fear of water.

While she enjoys teaching all skill sets, some of her favorite students are beginners who once had aquaphobia, because she loves introducing them to a whole new world of water that they once were unable to enjoy, whether it be a pool party or snorkeling in the tropics. The postcards and messages she receives from clients on their vacations make her day.

She believes anyone can achieve their swim goals when given a positive, encouraging and fun learning environment. It is upon these principles that she’s excited to lead her swim school and continue providing the highest standard of swim safety and training

Two summers of city pool lessons and he wouldn’t fully immerse his face underwater. 3 weeks of two lessons per week with Debbies swim school (once a week w Debbie herself) and he’s fully immersed, breathing, stroking and swimming without contact !!
I’m totally impressed by the quality of the lessons here.

Debbie is absolutely the best Aqua Instructor I have ever met. She taught my then scared and deathly afraid of the water 7 year old how to feel comfortable in the water and how to swim. Now she is 9 and swimming fast laps with beautiful strokes. Debbie has the patients of a saint and works at the child’s level of comfort. She is amazing with children and adults. Her Aqua Tone classes are my physical therapy and much better than any clinic. I had brain surgery and was unable to use my right hand for several months but when I was cleared by my doctor I was back in the pool with Debbie working on strengthening my muscles and I finally have most of my feeling back. She has different fitness levels to meet anyones physical fitness needs and also takes the time to explain the movements and their benefits. I would highly recommend her swim school to anyone looking to better their swimming goals.

I’m 65 years old and never learned to swim, I thought I might be too old to learn until I met Debbie and her instructors. Not only am I learning how to swim, I’m opening up new areas of recreation, like kayaking, boating, snorkeling etc. Its exciting and they make the lessons productive and fun.
Recently I’ve been taking lessons with Melanie. She is amazing! She is very knowledgeable, skillful, and puts a lot of extra effort in preparing for and setting goals for each lesson, but at the same time, gives you lots of support and confidence (and patience!) if you have difficulty.

I had been wanting to learn to swim for a long time and so I was talking about it with a friend and she so happened to know Debbie from a while back, and so she highly recommended her to me. So I went booked my lessons and in a few weeks I was able to move by myself in the water and play without so much fear. From then on, I have been getting better and better. She and her instructors are very professional, helpful and patient. Their knowledge and experience is impecable and they always make it fun.

Debbie is not only a wonderful swim instructor but she is multifaceted and another facet of her business is Aqua Aerobics. She gives you the best workout you will ever get. She just doesn’t go through the motions, she motivates you and makes it fun and makes you want to come back for more. She explains why you do every exercise and movement and encourages you to push yourself to make you healthier and look better. She gets to know her students and encourages you to tell her what you want to work on and she will incorporate your request in the class. She teaches three levels in each class so no matter what your level is your needs are addressed. Debbie is genuinely concerned about every student and giving each and every one of them the attention they need. Safety is her number one concern and Debbie makes sure that the non-​swimmers are doing the exercises in a manner that will not put them at risk for an accident so even if you don’t swim you can totally enjoy a safe and effective workout.

I am the mother of a beautiful little girl who has special needs and also happens to love the water. She made amazing progress on her own by learning to hold her breath under water and trying to float, but she needed some extra help. I was referred to Debbie’s Swim School and that is where we met Robbie. He has been amazing with my daughter who after only a few weeks has learned to swim on her own. It may not be perfect, but her and Robbie are working on it. He is so wonderful with her and just a great swim teacher. It has been great to work with Debbie and her staff as well, so I can’t wait to continue on with my daughter’s classes. She will be enrolled as long as they will let me.

Debbie is absolutely amazing! I had the pleasure of becoming lifeguard certified and WSI certified with her. She is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. You can tell that she is very knowledgeable about aquatics and is passionate about teaching it to other people. If anybody needs to be certified in anything water related she is definitely the one to go to. She makes the classes fun and you will retain the information you have learned.
She is one of the kindest and most patient people I have ever met especially when it comes to her clients. She gets to know each of her clients on a personal level and adapts to their needs. She is very understanding of what people want to achieve in learning how to swim and takes it nice and slow. If you were to take swim lessons with Debbie you are guaranteed to be swimming in just a few months. She is worth every penny.
I highly recommend Debbie for any of your aquatics needs whether it is to be certified or learning how to swim or getting a good workout in aqua aerobics. She is the best of the best.
