Giamela’s Submarine Sandwiches

First time here ordered their turkey special sub. Bread was amazing toasted perfectly the sand which was huge and all the ingredients were very fresh and flavorful. Definitely will be returning to try their pizza and other subs! BE SURE to try this place!

I’m not changing the star rating however it must be noted that I go there often. I can’t say it’s top flight but it is good. Had the pastrami today for the second time, generous portion and ez on the salt, tasted the meat actually :)

The two stars are because the pizza was best thing.

Garlic bread Fail yuck!!!
Spaghetti was unforgettable taste like they cooked the pasta in bathwater D+
Salad was bland wilted lettuce not crunky or crispy D–
Philly sandwich was all right meat was dry and lacked seasoning C–
Not really impressed other than the pizza it was worth the trip.
BTW: this was a pickup order.

Had the pepper steak sandwich.. It was delicious.. the customer service was great … good place to have a nice steak sandwich and a beer.

I can’t believe I never wrote a review for Giamela’s. I’ve eaten here every so often for the past 5 – 6 years. It’s one of those places that is just «middle of the road» in my opinion. Nothing to write home about but it’s decent. That being said I have only tried a few of their sandwiches. Pastrami with pickles, raw onion and mustard is a go to for me. I might have tried the pizza once but I don’t remember. So the last 4 times I’ve gotten food here were a tad annoying. They screwed something up each time. No cheese when I said extra cheese, mustard instead of mushrooms, a completely different sandwich one time and put everything on a peppered beef sandwich when I said onions only. All of those were pick up orders and I didn’t know until after I got it home. But hey, we don’t have a ton of options in the Sunland/​Tujunga area. So I deal with it. The portions are pretty big, the quality is ok and they are reasonably priced. I definitely wouldn’t recommend making a trip from another city to come here but if you are in the area and find yourself starving, on a budget and can’t stomach fast food, then go for it! I’d suggest having them repeat your order back to you though.

I’v been eating at Giamela’s for more years than I can remember. It seem like they are always opening and closing new store fronts in some low rent location. No matter. This particular store has been around for at least 8 years that I know of.
I LOVE the pepper steak. It has to be the finest pepper steak on the planet. Sure I’ve been down with the Turkey, the Capicola, and I was even a Tuna kick for a while. The only time you get a pepper steak that is not a 10 out of 10 is while they break in a new cook.
Pepper Steak Bring It ON! You will not be disappointed. I have a weakness for the antipasto salad too. You can order a pizza, or spaghetti and have a beer, if thats your thing.

Amazing sandwiches, ravioli with meatballs is awesome. Great take out place, or hang out and have a beer. They have amber bock on tap which rocks!
Recommend the pepper steak and egg with provolone.

Had a slice of mushroom pizza here. The pizza was low on sauce and the sauce it did have lacked flavor. The cheese was generous and the toppings adequate and fresh. The cheese was not a high quality mozzarella. On the whole the pizza was bland. The crust was nicely cooked with a slight crispness to it but a little too bready. Overall not worth the $ 4 I spent.

Nothing special just a regular sandwich that could be better. Also the pizza was okay nothing special.

Been coming here for years thought it was only right to finally write a good review. Their popular pepper steak sandwich is easily a favorite of mine but I’ve never been disappointed with any sandwich. Additionally they also make great pizza when I’m in the mood. Overall great food and polite service makes this a favorite local spot of mine.

Pizza was worse than frozen. I would have rather had frozen. No flavor. Cheese tasted fake. Antipasto salad ok. Will not return.

The best pizza in sunland! Very friendly customer service. Quick service, the food is fresh. These guys take pride in there Cooking.

This location serves up better quality subs than the one on Los Feliz. Be gone the mushy bread and say hello to a crispy crust.
Don’t be afraid of the tweaker vagabonds. Just slide past them and check in to get your free slice of pizza. If you can forgo, the fries.

This is defiantly the bomb of all Sandwiches hands down. This location is in Sunland, sleepy little town off the 210 E freeway. They also have three other locations in the Valley but I decided to take the 15 minutes drive and try them out at this location on the corner of Foothill and Sunland Blvd.
I went there after reading many reviews about the food and I really wanted to give them a try. I said to myself how bad the food could be? Well, to my surprise I have to say the sandwiches ordered were fu**ng delicious, huge and filled with meat and veggies, NO KIDDING!
I called ahead in advance and ordered large Steak sandwich, mushrooms and onions. I forgot to mention the cheese. Second sandwich, pastrami with everything on it. I told the nice lady on the phone I will be picking this up around 8:15. I arrived there earlier at 8:05 and wow the Sandwiches were not made. Perfect! I told the lady at the front that am here early for my pick-​up. She told the chef and he began the cooking process. less than ten minutes, both sandwiches were ready. I was really happy to watch the chef cooking everything using skillet and not the grill. I also was shocked at how big the sandwiches looked. Holly Crab!
TASTE:
Steak sandwich was huge, full of meat, sauteed mushrooms and onions on a huge sesame soft roll. The first I took and I felt I was in heaven no kidding. The taste was incredibly awesome. I can’t imagine how it would have turned out if I added the forgotten fuc**g cheese! Nerveless, the sandwich was delicious, loved it to the max! $ 8.25
Pastrami Sandwich also was huge and filled with meat and veggies the same as the steak sandwich. No gristle or tough muscles, only tender tasty and delicious pastrami. $ 8.00
I am really in love with this place and when am craving for steak sandwich, this place is set on my GPS under the best Steak Sandwich location.
Giamela’s have extensive menu which include Pastas and Pizzas as well.
Service for both on the phone and in person was friendly and professional.

Awesome sandwiches ! Real Italian style subs. Close second to my all time favorite sandwich stop Santoro’s in burbank.
Pizzas are also really good here. The mozzerella flavor is very fresh. I just wish they would add the Margarita pizza to the menu. I would never eat any where else!
Also — this place deserves an additional 5 stars for the service alone. Everyone who works there is so friendly and so helpful and really males the experience of being a customer complete.

Huge portions and good service how can you go wrong?
Everything seems fresh, The Key Foods to focus on are their pepper steak and pepper steak and egg sandwich. No place has a sandwich like this.
All their sandwiches are great and their pastas all come with a side salad and bread
When people are looking for a good restaurant they want value… and as far as value goes in my opinion this is about the best place for value (good quality, big portions, fast service at a good price)

YAY! A Giamelas place near my new home. I usually go to the Los Feliz location. I’m glad that there is one nearby.
Sandwiches are tasty and reasonably priced. A large sandwich for $ 8.75 feeds 2 people. Can’t get any better than that. I usually order the Pepper steak sandwich, my favorite.
They serve Pizza. A large 16 inch pizza for $ 10. Score!
So what you waiting for. Go out and get your Giamelas fixed. You won’t be disappointed.

Great Portions on Sandwiches and Pizza priced right for the consumers…
I first went to Giamelas about 20 years ago at the Los Feliz location and liked it then and still love it now.
They have Great tasting Italian sandwiches and always good fast service.
Did I mention the prices are cheap for the portions they provide.
You have to try it out when you’re in Los Feliz /​Atwater or the Sunland area.
Oh Yah they serve Beer!!! I guess that would be a plus :)… for all the Beer lovers out there.

Always enjoy a meal when it’s been prepared the same way, at multiple places, and been loved for years. Giamela’s is a staple. Went on a Saturday, and yes, the location is less than desirable. The building looks like it’s in need of a remodel, 10 years ago. Surrounding buildings add to the overall «is this worth it?» feeling. Other Unilocalers talk about having their car broke into while dining. So, sit by the window, watch your car, and enjoy a decent pastrami with diced tomato, pickle, and onion. Could have used some more cheese. Loved the Budweiser on tap at 8.50 a pitcher.
Now accepting credit cards. Have to try other subs before final judgement has been made. Peppered steak will be the deciding factor.
