I’d give it five stars but the girl behind the counter was obviously ready to go home and was rather short with us. when we asked about different pastries. Maybe they should put more signs with descriptions of the delicacies so she doesn’t have to talk too much. The other lady there was perfectly pleasant. So I’d suggest they switch and put her at the counter. The second strike is its cash only. Always a star loser in my book. It’s 2016. People don’t always carry cash. As a merchant myself, I know you are losing more sales than you are saving by not taking cards. But alas, on to the good! The pastries were perfect, and that’s why you’re here, correct? Macaroons were chewy and dense and flavorful. Baklava was right on point. My gf was a little underwhelmed with an apple pastry, but I loved it. Also, they are open very long hours, a big plus! So go for the food, you will love it. I’ll be back, prepared with cash and a no nonsense attitude. «No soup for you!»

I was served dry, probably day-old pastries, while other Romanian native customers were served the freshly made baked goods. It seemed to me the bakery discriminates against Americans. The reason I’m sharing this, is because I speak Romanian, and while I was waiting in line, I heard the conversations between the cashiers and the Romanian customers in front of me. The cashiers would hand the bags of pastries to the Romanian customers assuring them that they were receiving«hot and straight from the oven» goods. The service I received was horrendous as well. All in all, this bakery has offered me disappointing products and service. What made my experience disgusting was that I got to experience their deliberate and intentional deceiving practices against English speaking people, such as myself. Shame on you and your staff — have you forgotten that you came in this country as immigrants, and that this country and the American customers have helped you realize your dreams when your own native country mistreated you? English speaking customers: please save yourselves the aggravation of dealing with such a horrible establishment, because their pastries are not that great either.

Why did I not discover this place sooner? I’ve been living in this area for about a year and I only stumbled upon it today as I needed to satiate my sweet tooth. This place has a huge assortment of cookies and yummy cakes that are priced ridiculously low… $ 3.75 for a slice. The lady suggested the white chocolate mousse which was delicious! Now I know where I’ll be getting my pastries/cakes/sweet goods from now on :)

As I waited on line, I was certain I was in a special hell where every pastry in the place would be screaming, «you will gain weight but you must eat me anyway!». I knew immediately when two construction workers left with boxes and full bags, plunking down $ 30 each, that the baked goods here would be good. Nina’s is no high end artisanal bakery. But it is a solid bakery with delicious, homemade cakes and cookies and prices that won’t steal the bills in your wallet, as those artisanal shops are apt to do. Butter cookies are under $ 11 a lb, if I remember correctly, and cake slices were under $ 4 for most. After seeing the construction worker order a whole box of about 8 – 9 pieces of this vanilla custard cake, I knew I had to have it too. It had the texture of a light, baked egg white custard, not overly sweet, aromatic with vanilla essence, and sandwiched between a shell of puff pastry that resembled Napoleon layers. It was fresh and light enough to make me dangerously want more. I instead decided to spread my caloric intake around and try their rainbow cookies. These were delicious, more dense than the ones from Court St. Pastry Shop in Brooklyn but wonderful just the same. They had the right combination of jam, soft cookie, almond paste and chocolate. I asked the woman to not tie up the box. She smiled with a knowing look, showing me she how she left the top«Open». Nita’s has many type of cakes and cookies, multiple flavor combinations and shapes of those caloric pleasers. Based on what I tasted, they are probably all yummy. Some Unilocalers complained about the service. I didn’t think they were rude at all, perhaps sometimes perfunctory when they are busy, which I think is standard in some Eastern European cultures. They were friendly enough when I entered with the smile I wear whenever I think I have found a good eatery. Another great find via my trusty Unilocal App.

I really wanted to like this place because of all the good reviews. It’s just a block away from me, but I won’t be back. There’s a specific staff member here who is just rude. She always looks pissed and like she doesn’t want to help you. Although, she did enthusiastically help my boyfriend(hmm). The pastries aren’t any better than you would get at any other standard bakery. Nothing to keep coming back for.

Service is horrible. Asked for a jasmine tea that they have displayed and she dumped a Lipton tea bag into a cup. When I pointed it out she said, «I don’t know what is jasmine.» When I showed her where it was she tried to put the jasmine tea bag into the same cup as the Lipton. Then she overcharged me for it. The cup of coffee I also got was brown water. The diplomat cake was dry, had bad mouth feel and no flavor. Cookies tasted like vegetable shortening. Let them keep the extra money cause I won’t be back. Disgusting.

Pricing — Great! Desserts — Excellent!!! My favorite is the Hazelnut Mousse Cake. Coffee is NOT good. Staff — I go there often and the staff are not friendly people… Probably a European thing.

Wow! Just wow! Those cheese puffs — flaky, warm and just the right amount of sweet– knocked my socks off! Can’t wait to go back and try their other pastries and cookies.

While investigating the bakeries of Sunnyside(darn bossy sweet tooth) on Unilocal,I stumbled upon Nita’s European Bakery and decided to check it out. Oddly enough, I ended up going since I had some leftover Peruvian chicken and wanted something with vegetables as a side dish, and the positive words about Nita’s spinach pie had me curious. Plus the bakery has been around since 1982 and is a Romanian spot(can’t say I’ve ever been to a Romanian bakery), so all the more reason to go. When I entered the store, it looked like some locals were purchasing some goods so that gave me time to peruse the cases. The spinach pie was $ 2.50(cash only). I took it home and was too impatient to stick it in the toaster oven, but it was still delicious. The phyllo dough was very crunchy, the spinach plentiful and studded with non-stingy amounts of feta, and even some onion was thrown in too. Yum! The perfect appetizer/side dish for my leftover chicken. For me to waltz into a bakery and not buy anything sweet is unheard of, so I’ll have to try some of the cookies next time I’m in the neighborhood!

Last time I went I got their spinach pie, which is interesting because the place only sells sweets. The spinach pie was amazing just like the apple strudel? Really nice taste and the outer crust is so flakey and only $ 2.50! This spinach pie paired with the apple strudel for $ 1.50 is the ultimate combo!

This bakery is a great neighborhood find. I buy all of my cakes and cookies here for the holidays and if my husband and I are invited over to someones house and need bakery items I would stop here as well. Not alot of air con in there. but it is a bakery with large ovens in the back… and its a european place… its just straight service… its not white glove service… but for those that just want to go in and get stuff. its GREAT!

This place is a super authentic European bakery close to my apartment. The baked goods were good but they weren’t «blow my mind» amazing. Their coffee was also less than okay. I couldn’t finish it. It’s cheap and close by but I probably won’t be back especially with more coffee shops popping up in the area.

Great fast service. Ordered a Black Forest Cake in the morning and it was ready in the afternoon in a nice box with colorful string. $ 22 as the other review stated, and super delicious. The person I got it for loves this kind of cake and they were not disappointed. Tons of cherries and the chocolate on the cake is addicting. Only issue is the amount of cream, but overall, throughly impressed.

I have heard that this place is the heart beat of the Romanian community and with that said I have enjoyed their coffee and delicious croissants and Eclairs. I have ordered some birthday cakes here before from their everyday cakes they have out for last minute cake shoppers like me. They don’t offer your plain vanilla cake– their specialty is definitely chocolate or cream based rather than flour based cakes which is what they normally have. I noticed someone posted a photo of a whale shaped cake that they claimed is from Nitas’ now, I’m not sure if this was a one time thing but when I tried to request a cake(with plenty of notice) they said they can not accommodate me with different shaped cakes or flavors outside chocolate or strawberry. Weird. They basically offered me the same cakes they make that they have everyday, not custom cakes at all… I get that it’s Nita’s so you come here for Nita’s cakes but I was still put off by the push back I got for asking to try something else. I’ll still give this shop a high rating though, they’re still in business for a reason. They’ve got some good stuff here.

The four stars for my recent visit is for the pleasant staff being nice and polite in answering my questions on my purchase on an Almond Chocolate Ganage for $ 2.50. Most of the cookies, candies, cakes and desserts in general are not labelled by name in the case, some are, like the Baklava. I been here before when the awning was yellow now it’s brown. But the inside is pretty much the same and treats still the same. That Almond Chocolate Ganage is a ball the size of a baseball chocolate mixed in with almonds on the outer crisp shell with a nice crunch to it. The second inner layer is a cake layer and is soft yet firm. The middle core is s velvety chocolate filling which is chocolaty in flavor and sugary. Overall this guessing on a first time buy for on the Almond Chocolate Ganage was a good deal, like! Their cookies are good and coffee are so-so. Depending on the time service can run a bit slow. Parking is limited but I see people double park, your own risk if you get a ticket.

Anything i have tried from this bakery has been DELICIOUS. All the pastries, breads & chocolates — all fresh. The homemade chocolates are all fantastic(ive probably tried them all by now). There are only $ 20 a pound which is really not bad(i mean Kosher cold cuts are more expensive then these chocolates). Most of them are filled with a ganache and the favorite(of my family & friends) is always the long cylinder shaped one. The chocolate covered cherries are my personal favorite and im pretty sure they have rum in them. Moving onto the pastries… At only $ 2.50 each they are a steal as they are not only all delicious but fairly large. Most bakeries in the City sell pastries and slices of cake for $ 4.99. There are slices of a particular chocolate cake with a cream filling which is really nice, its moist and not too sweet. The spinach pie is awesome! I love it, and hot or cold, its really tasty and hits the spot. They have a wide selection of cookies and alot of beautiful cakes(havent tried the porcupine one yet but its on my list).
