Nothing special about their pizza. I’ve only had the pepperoni and the cheese. A little greasy, but decent enough.

Pizza in Sunnyside(much less Queens) is a bit like the wild wild west. There are plenty of solid options but very few stand out. Piazza Pizza is one of those pizzerias, situated along the tranquil 47th Avenue, as one of the hood’s less known pizza delivery joints. Run by a nice Mexican staff, the pizzas here are hearty and cheesy. It’s not a far cry from the popular Marabella’s( ), though not quite as tasty as Lenny’s along Greenpoint( ). That said, Piazza’s pies can stand on their own, especially for it’s reasonable prices and the fact it’s a notch better(and cheaper) than it’s Astoria location( ). The plain cheese slice is decent. There isn’t much grease and the crust still usually has a small layer of flour caked along the edges. I prefer a pepperoni pie, which might be their tastiest option. In terms of specialty pies, the taco pizza and the meat lovers are solid choices for being under $ 18. Take out and delivery are probably the safest options, considering there is only one or two tables int his joint that can seat a total of 4 people. The delivered pies hold up quite well, a respectable quality not many pizzerias in the hood have. It’s not all about the pizza here of course. Like many of these places, pasta and heros are also part of the menu. At only $ 5 – 8 each, the pastas are most likely out of the package quality, which is seen as a good deal more than it is anything else. Linguine with(canned?) clam sauce is my guilty pasta pleasure at these types of places and their meatballs are surprisingly plump and hearty. While I can’t say Piazza is among the hood’s best, they’re a reliable option in the area for decent pizza with prices that don’t break the bank. The wait time is never too long and the pizzas are for the most part, good enough to warrant multiple orders. Now, they just need to stay open as late(or later) than their Astoria counterpart(10pm).

One of the few places in Sunnyside that makes real New York pizza and not some hybrid Italian/Spanish version.

The grandmas sicilian pizza from this place is really amazing. One of my favorites in the city. I also dug their grilled chicken fettucine pasta dish and veal parmesan sandwich. Unfortunately, they aren’t open on Sundays and close earlier than other places.

Mediocre, at best. Sadly, so is every other option in the Sunnyside/Woodside area. In the almost three months since I moved to the neighborhood, I’ve also tried Marabella’s, Pepino’s, Pizza Boy II, Donato’s, Woodside Pizza and Skillman’s Famous Pizza and have been pretty disappointed with all of the above. Pizza Boy II is definitely the best on that list and the only one I’d order from again, but I was hoping for something better. If there is anywhere else worth trying, PLEASE let me know!

Piazza Pizza has an unfortunate limbo location being neither on Greenpoint or Queens Blvd, and it’s too bad because these dudes do an alright job. Though I can’t comment on the interior, based only on ostensible outside views, I doubt you’d find it to be decked out with chandeliers and velvet. But that’s okay for me since we only get delivery from here. Also, I haven’t tried the pizza, that honor goes to the much closer Marabellas, but when it comes to sub time, I’d rather get them from here. The eggplant, meatball, and sausage and peppers while above average, are far from being out of the ordinary. The reason they won me over was because of the quality the heroes sustained during delivery. It always comes still hot and steaming with the bread having that perfect amount of crunch. You know how a lot of subs get soggy at the bottom and with enough time the insides will break through? Not with this place, and that alone is worth mentioning. The chicken roll they got going on is really impressive as well.
