Amitabha Buddhist Society of USA

Amithaba Buddhism is an unusual sect, and most of the members seem to be from Taiwan. Until recently, they did not have much in the way of English materials.
(One of the main practices is chanting, but there are many other practices, also, and like pretty much all Buddhist sects, they are extremely supportive of the other varieties of Buddhism.)
I happened to be driving around and passed their office, so decided to stop in. There were people who spoke English perfectly, and they have a lot of books and other supplies which they will be glad to give you. (They probably won’t even mention that they’d like you to make a donation.) Super polite. Very nice.
I didn’t go look in the prayer hall in the back, because I didn’t have a lot of time, but if you are curious, they will be glad to talk to you.

I recommend this place to all people who would like to read and learn Buddhism. There are all kinds of free Chinese/​English version of Buddha teachings books, CD, VCD, DVD and Buddha pictures. Several years before, I went there to chant, worship Amitabha and learn the Pure Land Buddhism. I now still practice chanting Amitabha and think it really helps me to understand the real meanings of the life in a peaceful way. I definitely would like to go again when there is a chanting Amitabha event for weekends or holidays.
