History

Established in 1959.

Adapted from the family run, family owned business, Dayton Automotive. Daytons Auto Repair still remains a family owned and operated auto repair shop that believes quality and safety begins with a car inspection. We service both old and new vehicles, and we provide excellent and detailed checkups to ensure that your car is safe and up to our standards. If any of our customers are ever unhappy, we will do what is in our power to change that! We promise to provide excellent customer service, as well as fair prices that won’t break your checkbook!

At the end of 2012, I bought this business from the previous owner, John Afanasiev. After always wanting to run my own business, I thought why not with my father. I have gone to school for both business and the automotive industry, while my father has multiple certificates as well has worked for Midas for over 5 years. Both of us hope to see this business flourish like the other family run businesses. We both run all aspects of the shop and always want to maintain a professional, respectable, and honest business we know it can be. With schooling in business and the automotive industry, I promise to always work with my customers in all aspects of their service. We can’t wait to meet all of you, so be sure to come in and visit!

The service here is not good, I recently wnet for a radiator fault, they charged me 800 for fixing, had the issue resurafce in few months, now they ask me 1600 to fix all the bad work they did. I wouid nit recommend to anyone, they are priced high as well.

Daytons changed the front CV joints and axels on my old Subaru.
Found out recently from another shop that the axels they replaced were the incorrect lengths!
This cost me a lot $$ to get this fixed much later on.
I would not recommend you take your Subaru here at they do not understand how to fix them and all the subtle technical issues that caused me trouble later down the road.

From the emails/​comments I’ve received from the owner, I’m starting to believe that this shop really has changed — at least the customer service side of it. I can sense her concerns and dedication to her business.

I was in town for a workshop on a rainy Sunday and found that the driver’s side window on my 2000 Volvo wouldn’t close. I called what I thought was the Volvo dealer, figuring I’d get voice mail, but for some reason (misdial? reassigned number?) got Dayton instead. A real and very pleasant and knowledgeable human answered on a Sunday night and arranged for me to bring my car in the next morning. They fixed my window, kept in constant communication with me, and did it at a fair price. If I were local, I would definitely use them again.

I have never been able to give my car without these guys finding something that costs $$$$ to be replaced. They seemed genuine twice and I went along but stopped going here after it was a patter. Economy auto service near Lawrence and Reid are much more honest, reasonable and scrupulous.

Honesty, integrity and reliability is what I look for in all my automotive needs and they have all that plus more! When it comes to maintaining my car, Dayton gives the most detailed explanations of what is up with it. They not only explain to you verbally, but they also give it to you through computerized print-​outs as well. Repair costs are a bit high, but like any business, they have to stay in business to keep up with competition. I used to take my car to the Toyota dealer and they just rip me off every time. I also like this place because they are close to my work and always give me a ride to a from there. GREAT customer service and friendly mannerisms with absolute no back talk! I would recommend this place for all of your car maintenance needs!

This is basically the best auto place ever. An absolute MUST if you drive a ford, but great for any car really.
It’s a small independent shop and I feel great about giving them my business. They are friendly, fun, and honest honest honest.
So I dont know a ton about cars so when an auto place tells me I need something or tells me the cost, first thing I do is call my dad to verify that I’m not getting ripped off. Dad has confirmed that Dayton has been nothing but honest with me since the get go 3 years ago.
PLUS — they will drive you to work and come pick you up. It’s easy to get an appointment. They keep great records of your service and keep you on track with your maintenance.
You really cannot beat this place.

This is the only place I’ll take my car. I have had John do a few different things to my car and have always been extremely happy with the work. John, the head technician, does a great job and always willing explain, demonstrate the results of a diagnostic.
The staff is always helpful and friendly.
The Daytona offers a membership that includes full inspections along with the oil change: a good deal and a great way to ensure the car is always up and running.

I used to go to the Toyota Dealer on 1st street until they closed down recently. I was calling around to see where to take my car in for it’s servicing. The Toyota Dealer on El Camino in Sunnyvale was extremely rude to me on the phone and just pissed me off. Then i called Dayton Automotive and it was a breath of fresh air! Very welcoming and polite over the phone!
Everybody at Dayton Automotive was extremely nice and helpful! I went in this morning to get my car serviced. They offered to drive me home and then pick me up when my car was ready to go which was awesome! My car is running much smoother and they suggested i get my tires replaced soon so i hope to go through Dayton for those replacements. They’re Great! You should definitely consider Dayton for your Auto needs.

I have been bringing my cars here for the past 4 years and have always gotten great service. They are reasonable, do great work and, best of all, explain what they are doing.
Whenever a friend tells me that they need expensive work done on their cars, I send them to John at Dayton. Everyone I have sent there has had their work done there and are glad they did.
The folks at Dayton are honest and friendly. They also are happy to shuttle you to and from the shop.

I have had to take my car here several times in the last couple of months for random repairs (since my car is getting older and more crazy) and each time they have worked with me on explaining what the problem is how they are going to fix it in terms that i can understand.
The staff is so warm and welcoming, they treat you like family!
I drive here from Oakland for everything having to do with my car, even oil changes!

This is my automotive service shop of choice. I live over 30 miles away, and will drive there gladly to have them take care of my needs. They have been doing all my work, from brakes, replacing engine, shocks, everything. And when they don’t do a specific type of work, they take it to where it gets done, and they stand behind it 100%. Not everybody can be happy all the time, hence there are always a few that don’t feel they recieved fair value, but I do, I trust my life to them.

I strongly recommend Dayton. A year ago they said my suburu didn’t need new brakes. They were right. Then today they told me my rear drum brakes on my caravan were 70% and sent me home even though I told them i was pretty sure they were shot. So I feel it’s an honest shop. That’s important to me, more than price. But then their prices are good, too.
They got my car smogged for me. Even made sure it was driven a bit before hand to get the gunk burned out first.
Final thing. The shop is run by the owner. I respect an independent shop and one where the owner works on cars along with the other techs.

I use Dayton Automotive on and off, as I don’t particularly like to give all my business to one establishment. 3 years ago they were extremely helpful in keeping my BMW 540I going, replacing my V8 engine with a used engine from a wrecked car. The engine and workmanship have so far been flawless. I recently returned for an oil change and and was met with the same pleasantness I remember from the past.

Expensive is sometimes justified. But not when it’s coupled with fuzzy billing, luke-​warm service and absolutely standard service.
On my first visit there I was charged just $ 5 under the pre-​authorized $ 500 charges I had liberally stated when leaving the car (and revised from the low $ 300 of their original estimate…). Coincidence? Maybe, but to me it looked like they had just padded it to the max. Incidentally, labor wasn’t detailed.
Was so disgruntled that I double-​checked previous bills from other shops; and even called around. Dayton charged me (for this periodic and predictable maintenance) well over 50% anyone else…
They won’t see me again — I like to trust my mechanics. I miss D&M Motors in Palo Alto (they’re just too far away for me now)!
