I teach both technique and musicianship in a positive and welcoming environment. I guide students of any level and age, from 4 years through senior. Both adults and children are taught according to age and level and receive the same thorough fundamentals. A common misconception is that adults cannot learn piano if they have had no previous experience as children or have not played for many years. Adults simply require a different approach. Consequently, lessons are individualized according to each students’ needs and desires. «Technique» refers to physical movements required to play «repertoire» or pieces, with dynamics, speed and ease. «Theory» focuses on recognition of musical patterns which in turn, creates greater success and accuracy when learning repertoire. «Sight-​reading» and «ear training» are taught as a unit with a unique system I developed over many years.

History

Established in 1987.

I have bachelor, masters and doctoral degrees in piano performance. I have taught beginning through advanced students of every age for over 25 years. Due to my extensive training and experience, I know exactly what works and what doesn’t. My students always earn highest marks on local competitions and tests like Certificate of Merit. They are frequently invited to perform on honors recitals and at state music teacher conventions. In Sunnyvale, I maintain a private studio, teaching exclusively individual lessons. I have an infinite amount of patience and a positive and encouraging personality. I continually learn by teaching, and have been successful at solving any difficulties and finding the motivation and interest that are unique to each student.

I started playing the piano by ear at age 2.5, but didn’t begin lessons until age 10. I have bachelor, masters and doctoral degrees in piano performance and have been fortunate to study with the finest teachers. My background and technique is classical. However, I have found the same techniques required to play classical, make it amazingly easy to play other styles of music which I also teach. I love to teach and I’m very good at it. Additionally, I am a professional soloist and accompanist.
