KSJO Channel 92.3

Can you say China 92.3?
I tuned into KSJO 92.3 this morning out of curiousity to see if the alternative rock format was still there on this old San Jose classic rock station, KSJO. This station used to play Led Zep, Boston, etc.
To my surprise, not only was the indi rock «Save Alternative» format gone, but there was some chinese chatter on the morning radio show going on here. I caught a couple of Ni Haos while briefly listening. I was kind of shocked that this powerful Bay Area Rock FM station had turned chinese.
It turns out the «Save Alternative» music program will move over to 104.9 on weekends, or something. I know, this is confusing…
After checking online and it appears this radio station was sold to a company called Universal Media Access, and it is now called «China 92.3.» So KSJO lives on, but it’s waving a red Chinese flag. This is now the biggest Chinese FM station in the country.
Tune in here if you’re craving Chinese Pop,. Some folks on Unilocal may find this «new» format interesting. But I don’t think I will be able to keep up…:)

LOL! I found out about this station from my brother who told me that one of his radio stations is now an asian station. I needed to check it out for myself! I mean, come on Asian pop songs? The fob in me squealed. But, the new asian station is OK… I think it would be better if they were more consistent. Mandarin/​Canto/​Korean/​Japanese songs only instead of all. I must admit this station is kinda fun! Check it out. Zai jien!

Poor KSJO.
They’re like that cursed piece of real estate that’s an all-​you-​can-​eat sushi boat buffet one week, and a falafel stand the next, and an uppity pet treat boutique the next, and a terrible Korean barbecue the next, and a foot spa and tea bar the next…
Oh well.

SaveAlternative was the best thing to happen to radio. They played new songs by bands like Klaxons, White Lies, Chappo, TV on the Radio, We Are Augustines, Peter Bjorn & John, classics by Depeche Mode, The Cure, The The, Ministry, The Replacements, and songs you haven’t heard in awhile by Brand New, Something Corporate, Hum, etc. In the two weeks they were on, I was never tuned out… except while I was sleeping or in class. In fact, they were a lot like Channel was before Channel sold out in June of last year. :(

It used to get 4 stars because it was WAY better than 105.3… but then, clearchannel had to sell them. Then this thing called «save alternative» tried for like, what 2 weeks? Now it is asian pop. SO, since I don’t know any asian languages and have never liked pop… one star. Now you know what is on the channel though.

One day, a delightful youth entered my vehicle, took command of the radio, and enlightened me to the existence of KSJO’s Save Alternative. I absolutely LOVED it. No commercials and an endless loop of music that got little play elsewhere. (I even spent an obscene amount of time going through their entire 500+ playlist to see what else I needed to add to my mp3 collection). It was beautiful.
It replaced the setting previously held by Live 105 on my presets and life was good.
Then, one day, during my morning commute, I heard talk on air that the format would change. This made me sad. I endured and listened up until the music changed.
I had to make a decision: What to do with this spot on my presets? I contemplated resetting it to Live 105 and then I thought of how much I loved this station. My love for this station (and lack of love for the other one) is so strong, that I am making myself enjoy Asian pop. Because it’s either that or I get up earlier to download podcasts… and I’d much rather sleep in. So, Asian pop. hooray!

OMG I thought it was a joke!!! I thought the guys were goofing around and surprise! My favorite alternative station is GONE! WTH!
Really? why? I hate pop, R and B, hip hop, reggaeton and all that garbage that a lot of people like to listen to (there are like 20 stations full of that anyways) and this was the only station that delivered somewhat decent alternative music, now I am screwed, I guess I will have to listen to pandora radio the whole time.
I want my station back!!! gggrr!

Seriously WHAT THE F*CK is going on. I’m Chinese so don’t label me as an «Alexandra Wallace» type who hate on Asians but seriously with out any warning (or if there was warning I totally missed it) a good radio station turned into full on Chinese Asian Mandarin speaking full out everything in Chinese except for a commercial where they are suggesting that you email them at *(somthing in Chinese)* @ «A.O.L» I SUGGEST that you bring back my precious smashing pumpkins.

I feel like someone just told me Santa Clause isn’t real, 92.3 was my favorite radio station of all time and today I found out that it has turned into a Chinese pop station.
I used to listen exclusively to my iPod in my car. After hearing 92.3 in a friend’s car I became a believer and started listening to it constantly. They played an amazing mix of the newest and best alternative music without being repetitive. There were no annoying DJ’s and hardly any commercials. It was easily the best radio station I’ve ever come across and now it’s gone.
Bring back the alternative 92.3!!!
If you have an HD radio (which I don’t) you can still enjoy the former 92.3 on 104.9 HD2.

Today was a VERY sad day. I just discovered that my favorite radio station has been changed to an Asian pop station.
If you happen to love alternative AND Asian pop then today isn’t quite as bad for you. But I happen to love alternative and especially used to love 92.3.
I was driving back to work after my lunch break when I turned to my favorite station, 92.3. The song playing sounded a bit strange, not too alternative, but I just kept listening. They’ve never led me astray so I figured the song would pick up. I continued driving and I thought that the artist was singing in Japanese. I was really confused… I listened on and was sure that the song was Japanese. To my dismay the next song was in Japanese too. I was very confused, bewildered and nearly crashed (not really).
As soon as I parked at my office I pulled out my phone and wikipediad 92.3. My heart broke when the station was no longer described as alternative. My worst fears had been realized. I nearly shed a tear (ok maybe I shed a few). Thankfully the music you know and love is still available. But ONLY if you have an HD radio. Its on 104.9 HD2.
It was so heart wrenching that I am sitting at my desk writing this review update instead of actually doing work. Bad day.
My ears used to be so happy. Now they are all emo and depressed.

About a month ago, this crappy «alternative» station was playing awful music (that doesn’t sell records or radio advertisements) such as Band of Horses, The Smiths, and MGMT. Who listens to that garbage?
Clearly, not a whole lot of people as the format has changed and it now plays stuff that sells (nationally and internationally) such as Chinese ballads, K-​Pop, and J-​Pop.
It’s good to know that they are slowly improving their music selection.

I’m so confused. I was so excited about 92.3’s new SAVE ALTERNATIVE station. all the alternative music was amazing. and then today I turned on the radio to hear a bunch of Chinese /​Japanese pop music… what happened?!

If you’re gonna play C-​Pop, K-​Pop, and J-​Pop, at least play something somewhat decent to the ears. The stuff playing right now is meant for old asian ladies sitting at home with nothing better to do than listen to the radio.
I’d much rather have the «Save Alternative» back because that was actually introducing me to some really cool new bands, but if you’re gonna play asian pop, at least play something like Big Bang or Utada. Not saying that kind of music is a super big improvement, but it’d be better than the elderly music they got going now

One star for this new BS Chinese pop station. I can understand what they’re singing, but there’s a reason I never chose to listen to Asian pop. This is it. :(
Bring back our alternative station!

Channel 92.3 was good, but this new Save Alternative format is unbelievable!!! Save Alternative is like the ultimate mix tape that I can’t stop listening to.
Even though I still have to change the station whenever Mumford and Sons, The Black Keys, or Muse is on, this is easily forgivable amidst the vastly superior music that is otherwise played.
The fact that there isn’t a lame morning show or any commercials are just extra perks. When Save Alternative becomes a more full-​fledged radio station, I hope they bring the awesome bands that they play on-​air to the South Bay for shows.
I didn’t realize alternative music or the «alternative lifestyle» needed saving, but now that Save Alternative is here, I don’t ever want it to go away!

First of all let me say that never thought I would write a review on Unilocal about a radio station! But this awesome change deserves a moment of appreciation! My ears are flapping from joy!
This is the real new kind of radio right there! This station does not brag about how much less commercials they put while not shutting the the hell up about it and taking about 2 minutes + 2 minutes of commercials about hair loss or boner pills after each song! which was played about 20 minutes ago! I know the words to all the song that I don’t even like and all the jingles that we all hate so much!
I’m sick of listening to Kings of lion, Linkin park, and come on why are you playing Nirvana so much?! I like ‘em but I had my fair share of the 90!
Thank you KSJO for clearing up all that BS around the good and wide variety of music that you play!
And for the people that do not like the change, I’m sure you’ll survive and get your fix on the rest of the mainstream, commercial packed radio stations out there.

Are you all serious about the change being shitty? Props to AK pointing out that if you drive 1 hour a day, you will hear the same song at least 3 times. Not to mention they play WAY too much shit from when I was in jr. high. And do people really like RHCP that much?

These aren’t the best bands in the world, but I’ve never heard them on a commercial radio station (with the exception of the smiths).
And another thing, why does everyone think that KSJO and 105.3 were so different? I can’t count the number of times that some shitty song came on that made me switch to the other, only to realize that the same exact shitty song was on…
Lastly, do you really like the old ksjo dj’s so much? I mean, I’ve never met them, but whenever any of them talked, the first thing I would think was «please don’t play Florence and the Machine»…next I would think «now shut the hell up».
Even if this no commercial thing doesn’t last, I’ll be on this station infinitely more than anything else besides npr.

Thank you Channel 92.3 for playing real music by actual creative artists. Whatever Alice 97 is playing, just picture the opposite. No Pink. No Fergie. No Rhianna.
