Do not use unless you want an accountant who is completely irresponsive, charges four times of initially stated fee, and causes IRS to fine you for failure to file and pay. We got this guy’s name from someone at a friend’s house party. We went in for a free consultation even though we’ve been warned by the friend of his out-​of-​norm irresponsiveness. We decided to try him out because the consultation went well. He appeared knowledgeable, talked about all kinds of tricks to reduce our tax legally, and gave a low fee quote to prepare tax returns for our case. We sent in all supporting documents for tax preparation and our pain began. 1) First he didn’t respond to confirm the receipt of documents and give an estimate date of completion until 2 months later, using excuses that he’s been on vacation and his assistant quit so no one was helping to answer the phone or reply to emails. We should have walked away but unfortunately we didn’t. 2) Second he declared there’s no tax saving by filing separately and didn’t even compute it to compare. In fact filing separately saved us thousands of dollars on tax once we insisted that he at least computed the numbers. He also made several smaller mistakes where the numbers do not match because «some lines went off screen». 3) Third he completely ignored our repeated email requests for the final version of tax return filed, and ignored our inquires about the much-​larger-​than-​quoted accounting bill. We mailed a letter requesting final version for record keeping, together with the payment check. He cashed the check and ignored our request. 4) Forth our tax return was not filed properly, causing our tax prepaid with joint status not being applied to my account when we ended up filing separately, resulting in huge IRS penalties for failure to file and pay. And as usual, he never responded to our messages about this. We wish we had ran away from this guy as fast as we could!
