The New Optical Shoppe

I needed to have some glasses fixed just as they were closing last week. The owner welcomed me in. He showed such kindness and had the glasses fixed in no time. Wonderful small business!

I came to The New Optical Shoppe to get some Costa Del Mar sunglasses. This is one of the few rx dealers in the Bay Area. Abe was very helpful and made sure I was satisfied. Well I’m beyond satisfied. Customer service is number one here. Looking forward to doing more business with Abe.

The shop is somewhat small and not very «glitzy». But their selection is surprisingly good. Abe, who is (I believe) from Turkey, was fantastic. Prices were reasonable, and frames/​lenses came in about 3 – 4 days, which was faster than LensCrafters quoted (plus LensCrafters was in malls that were really hard to park at and visit.
He gets my highest recommendation.

My frames needed to be repaired, several of the stones had fallen out of the legs. The place were they were purchased would not do the repair. I contacted the manufacturer, they sent me new stones and referred me to The New Optical Shoppe.
At my first visit I met Abe. He said it would not be a problem to reset the missing stones, but he had to purchase the correct adhesive, as I had been advised by the manufacturer (no Krazy Glu… it would damage the stones) My glasses are now perfect. Abe, thank you very much… and I will be back.

I was running around Mountain View and Bay area to get my glasses repaired (The frame was broken). Everyone equivocally said it can’t be done. I am visiting and do not have insurance so was hesitant to spend a ton of money.
I called Abe and he simply said «I can take care of that». He was simply amazing. Gave us a great price and I had new frames put on and delivered in course of half a day. If this is not good customer service then I don’t know what is.

New glasses in 3 days. Cute ones, too. It took me all of maybe 20 minutes to pick out a pair of frames, discuss my options for lenses and coatings, pay for them and be off.
Abe does not try to upsell. He told me that, given my prescription, I’d be happy with less expensive lenses than I’ve been sold in the past, and he was absolutely right.

We bought my son’s first pair of glasses here before we had VSP. Then we went to a VSP supported shop for his second pair. I wasn’t thrilled with the prices at a VSP network shop, so decided to try The New Optical Shoppe for my pair.
From now on I expect we’ll just go here and just submit «out of network» to VSP (or cancel VSP). I’ll get less reimbursement from VSP for going here (out of network), but the base prices are so much more fair that I’ll end up paying the same or less.
Additionally, there is no pressure for add ons, and the service is very personal and quite exceptional.

I recently purchased a pair of reading glasses and transition-​lens glasses. Abe was very helpful in recommending frames that would be lightweight and appropriate for my taste and face. When the reading glasses arrived, Abe adjusted the frames. I went back for a further adjustment and he made sure I was completely satisfied. I had requested transition lenses, but when those glasses arrived I was not happy with the result. I was not well-​informed about the viewing areas for transition lenses. Abe offered to remake the lenses, but I wanted to wait until I’d read enough to be an informed consumer (something I should have done before ordering the transitionals). After learning, I returned and worked with Abe to find a type of bifocal that would best suit my needs. We looked at alternative locations and sizes for the near-​vision part of the lenses. I picked up the bifocals this morning and they are perfect for my needs. I don’t think it’s possible to exceed this level of customer satisfaction. My one suggestion is that Abe offer to provide a little more education to his customers about what to expect. A customer with appropriate expectations will be a more satisfied customer.

So glad I found this shop in my neighborhood. Prices and services are both great!

This is my 2^nd review of the New Optical Shoppe. My first was to relate my purchase of a new frame for my old lenses. As I promised, this time I purchased my first complete pair of lenses and a new frame. Abe REALLY TOOK CARE OF ME. He made sure I got the perfect frame for my face and that my lenses were exactly the correct prescription.
Since Abe is such a pro, he only took a couple of looks at my new specs on me and knew exactly what he needed to in order to customize the frame to my face; about two minutes, if that! He is really that good. He is very concerned about everyone he sells to, like it’s part of him that he sold you. He will always be my destination when my wife or I need glasses. Thanks Abe!

A while back I broke the right temple arm to my glasses and after living with them broken for 2 months, I just couldn’t stand them falling off my nose anymore.
I took my glasses in this morning to be repaired and Abe told me the temple piece was beyond repair, but he helped me find new frames that were similar in shape to my current glasses.
He found one that was flexible, won’t break easily, and also had a similar lens shape. He took my lenses and cut them down a little to fit into the new frame and he was done within 20 minutes!
Not only was the process really fast, but it was pretty cheap too! The best time I’ve ever had in getting new glasses. I highly recommend anyone in need of new frames or repairs to their glasses to come here!

I had a great experience with the New Optical Shoppe. I have a fairly strong eyeglasses prescription (myopia and astigmatism) and have had some difficulty in the past with having eyeglasses made correctly. I went to the New Optical Shoppe based on the reviews here and sure enough, they were able to help me pick a nice looking frame that would work well with my prescription strength, and made a pair of glasses that I can see very well with. Abe mentioned that because of the strong prescription, these could take longer than the 7 to 10 business days but was able to deliver them to me in 7 business days! My previous optician took several tries and 3 months! Pricing on the eyeglasses was very good as well, making the experience especially pleasant.

I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else to get my prescription lenses. When I called Abe to get a quote (for comparison purposes), he was honest and upfront about his prices, which readily beat those of all the other eyewear locations I called. And even though it turned out that my high prescription called for a slight price increase for the high index lenses I wanted, Abe stuck to the original price he quoted over the phone. And never once did he try to push me to buy more features (anti-​reflective coating, tinting, etc.), the way that other places do. If that isn’t great customer service, I don’t know what is.
Also, while most places said high index lenses would take 7 to 10 business days to complete, Abe did it in 1.5! He called the minute they were ready, and he cleaned my regular glasses until they looked like brand new, for free.
Overall? Very satisfied (especially since the Unilocal deal made my wallet much happier). Abe can definitely count me as one more loyal customer.
Note: once you turn onto Grape Ave (from W El Camino Real), there’s a small plaza that comes up immediately on the right. The New Optical Shoppe is located there and there’s ample parking space.
