Mavericks Java & Bistro is a family owned and operated coffee shop serving breakfast and lunch, as well as offering wine bottle sales paired with special wine events.

Food offerings range from cooked to order breakfast, lunch sandwiches, or house-​made pastries. Drinks include gourmet organic coffee & espresso, specialty lattes, frappes (blended coffee), iced coffee, tea, wine by the glass, mimosas, Italian soda, and more! Soy & almond milk available.

Mavericks Java is located in the former liquor store beneath the new bridge to Sunset Beach.

This place is so cool! Every time we go to sunset beach, we come here. We are very satisfied with the food and the entertainment. When we come, we get our fortune told by zoltar. Love the muffins and the service. Great job!

Breakfast was horrible. We had a croissant sandwich, pancakes, French toast, eggs, and bacon. Not only did none of it taste good but it was ridiculously expensive. I would not recommend eating any meals here. Only reason it’s getting an extra star is for the coffee, which was decent and the very nice girls working the counter.

Not a fan of Mavericks — not necessarily because of their food or service but because the owner is a selfish man who relies on the community for his livelihood but gives nothing in return. He is not liked by the locals due to his lack of caring and compassion. I’d drive to Calabash or Ocean Isle before stepping foot in that establishment.

We stopped here for breakfast on a recent trip to Ocean Isle. We were really pleased with Mavericks. Coffee was good. Sandwiches were good… we both got the Mavericks Doodle… one with biscuit/​sausage, one with biscuit/​bacon. Very delicious. Parking was easy though the lot was a little small. But there are some street spots as well. We will definitely stop here again if we are in the area.
We give it 4.5 Mavericks out of 5.

The food was pretty good, bit there was next to nothing on the menu. However, I like the idea of ordering your meal at the register. Overall, it was a nice little café. A little outdated, but it was nice. The jukebox was pretty cool too.
BUT the ice cream is AMAZING. I think it was homemade, but I’m not 100% positive. When you go there, you have to get the ice cream.

Great place to stop for a fresh glass of iced tea, or an Arnold Palmer! The girl who works at the counter is very friendly and remembered us after only one visit. If you are looking for a snack, try the chocolate chip cookie dippers– AMAZING! I also love the morning glory muffins, grab one to have for breakfast.

Laid-​back, relaxing, local, coffee-​shop-​vibe, quaint little place. Has hot breakfast/​brunch. Omelets, pancakes, French toast, and bakery items like muffins and bagels. Food takes homemade– fresh ingredients, nice portions, NOT greasy, great flavor. Full coffee shop and a wall of different wines. Family-​friendly with high chairs, kids menu and restrooms. Plenty of indoor seating, even booths, in air conditioning and a couple tables outside. Friendly staff. Tons of windows and great view of new park and the water way. Unique atmosphere with juke box and vintage décor. We’ll be back!

Very good sandwiches. Nice staff and great blondie. Only negative was the food took kind of a long time to come out which was odd since we were the only people there. Food was worth the wait and atmosphere was good.

Mavericks is a decent little, local coffee shop. They have your traditional café drinks as well as some local baked goods. There is also several wines for sale in the store. The store appeared to be an old golf store considering the interesting carpet. I wasn’t sure if Mavericks wanted to be a coffee shop or a liquor store.

Nice place, very clean and very attentive personnel. Coffee was first rate, we all ordered a variety of breakfast sandwiches which were served with perfect roast potatoes. Picked up a couple of bottles of wine, wait staff commented on the qualities of them and their favors. Very enjoyable experience.

This is a great find. It’s not a Dunkin’ Donuts type shop so if you don’t like good organic fair trade coffee but McDonald’s or Dunkin donuts coffee you probably are not going to like this coffee or it will be very strong. But if you are a bit of coffee connoisseur you’ll enjoy. They have soy & almond milk!
It’s family owned and they have hired a bunch of college students to work for the summer. It’s quaint & the folks are very friendly.

Coffee, wine and free wifi… and super sweet staff.
During a recent vacation in the area, my cousin and I stopped in a couple times to grab coffee. While we didn’t pick up any wine there is a nice selection and they serve wine by the glass.
We were just in and out but it would be a nice place to have a beverage while getting a little work done.

Excellent coffee and friendly staff. Now the ONLY place in Sunset Beach area that I go for coffee. I’m a Starbucks junkie, but if there was a Mavericks Java in Dallas, I’d be there every day.
