The most compassionate, professional, amazing place I had ever taken my sick babies to! They were wonderful at my greatest time of need.

What a wonderful caring place to go for pet services. They were and supportive of our feelings during a sad time in our live. From the moment we entered the door to when we left we were treated with dignity and kindness. Thank you Devon and staff.

Hospitals are chronically understaffed and underfunded. Vets do the most with what they’ve got. There are some genuinely great people at BSVES, and expect pretty good service, but like any hospital be prepared to wait.
I went in with a prior notice specifically to euthanize my cat, who was dying of cancer. The staff was genuinely supportive, and tried to make the best of the situation. I can’t speak for the other care services, but this was done adroitly.
The facility was recommended by my regular vet, and I’d go back there again.

Brought my dog here over labor day weekend because he was having some health issues and my normal vet was closed for the holiday. While we originally thought it was a reaction to some vaccinations he received the previous week I brought in a stool sample for them to test to confirm our suspicions. I thought they tested the sample at the time but I later learned when bringing him back to my normal vet after symptoms returned, that they never tested the sample and we suspect they just threw it away. In the end I learned when my other vet actually tested a new sample that my dog had Hookworms and that this could’ve been caught and treated almost a full month sooner had Bay State actually tested the sample as I asked them to do. I am in the process of disputing the charges from Bay State with my credit card company after learning all this as Bay State’s failure to test the sample not only resulted in my having to pay additional vet fees for further tests/​exams but also could’ve resulted in more serious health complications for my dog.
Needless to say don’t bring your pet to Bay State. People there were super nice but I’m going to a vet to get my dog healthy and that they failed to do.

Excellent emergency hospital. The doctors here have saved my dog more than once. Very friendly and great customer service, they always follow up with a phone call.

Had to use Bay State for emergency services after my small dog ingested a large amount of chocolate. They immediately took him back to administer treatment. I met with a sympathetic and knowledgable vet who discussed his treatment and discussed the options for further care. He ended up staying the night, and they allowed me to go back to the treatment area (which was very clean) to say goodnight. All of the staff were very friendly and I could tell they had a passion for animals. Fortunately he’s doing well and the aftercare was spot on!

Took my cat here in December because he was open mouth breathing and just not himself. He ended up passing away at Baystate. They did everything they could for him but he was older and a bit overweight. They were very respectful and called us in the room right when he took his last breath so we were there with him and that was nice. Also let us stay in the room with him alone to say goodbye. They made us paw prints that came out nice and were just very professional and caring about the whole situation. We received a sympathy card a few days later from them.
Here’s the negative: called in at 2am because my 1 year old cat had a seizure, was vomiting and open mouth breathing for a minute or 2. The woman on the phone gave me no advice or knowledge just said to bring him in. I would spend thousands to save my pets but he was fine after a few minutes and it was a 30 minute drive at 2am. I just needed some advice on what to do during and after the seizure and that was not happening.
We took him to Capeway vet the next day and turns out he’s in great health so hopefully it was a one and done type of thing.

We had Sophie, our 7yr old Daschund mix treated here for life threatening Anemia this past March. She was recovering well, but had a fatal relapse at the end of June ’14. Throughout her treatment ALL the staff at Baystate were great. We were informed of costs and options at every milestone. Drs Miller, Thomas and all the other folks were absolutely outstanding. Remember that this is a quality service and these folks are there for you 24÷7÷365. Next time we need an emergency vet we know where we will be going.

I brought my cat there after he was vomiting blood tinged fluid and my regular vet was closed. My regular vet informed me they did payment plans, but once I arrived, they refused any kind of payment plan.
I indicated price was of concern as I recently lost my job. The vet faked concern and suggested $ 150 X-​rays and $ 150 blood work. I asked if we could do one then the other in the effort to cut costs. She refused to suggest one or the other first. I went with X-​ray. After performing x-​ray and charging me said fee, she informed me X-​rays just aren’t always accurate and there was a gas bubble but it «appears» there is nothing but she could be wrong. Then she informed me she could send blood work out and it would only cost $ 70. Meanwhile they will send me home with medicine to help with nausea.
I got to front desk and paid $ 377. When we are about to leave the receptionist said «Ohhh I didn’t realize you wanted blood work. That is an additional $ 95. I informed her vet said $ 70, she calls back room and says «Nope $ 95» but you can go home and think about it, we will save his blood.
So $ 377 later I was sent home with NO answers and my cat’s conditions only got worse.

I am a M.D. I went into medicine because I thought humans were much more important than animals, but I think all creatures deserve a level of care and compassion, which is absent in this facility. The bottom line in this place is $$$$$$, it it very disgusting. My cat didn’t get any care until they saw my credit card. No X-​ray no morphine drip. I am note sure if he was even fed. These «doctors» are really a sad excuse for clinicians and it saddens me that someone would go into the art of medicine and use that knowledge to exploit human beings for economic gain.

I needed emergency vet services for my bunny and the level of concern, knowledge & care here was far above other veterinarians. They have very knowledgeable staff who are kind, accommodating and understanding in times of need. Most places do not treat rabbits on an emergency basis but they were able to diagnose the problem quickly. I would not hesitate to return here for emergency or veterinary services. They have regular vet services and a 24 hour animal emergency room. Their sister property, Ocean State, is equally as good as well.

I had the need for emergency service on 12÷19÷11, I had no experience with Bay State and called them for help. The girl was polite and helpful and told me they would be ready when I arrived. We were treated with compassion and our dog was treated with dignity. My wife and I made the tough decision to let our friend of 14 years go. There was no push to change our minds, no push to sell added services, just respect and compassion.
I feel bad for the reviewers who express a more negative experience but my experience was nothing like some of the other reviews.
I appreciate the help that was afforded my wife, myself and most importantly my pet.

We have brought our pup here multiple times and the staff and vets are extremely friendly, professional, and helpful. Highly recommend.

We noticed our cat had some puss at 11pm. We immediately went to our primary vet’s website and saw that they recommend this emergency vet clinic. We called them up and they told us immediately that there was an extra $ 100+ charge for after hours emergency vet visits. It was nice to know upfront.
When we got there we were introduced to probably the most unhappy, miserable receptionist (and vet tech maybe?) ever. After filling out the paperwork we got seated. We only waited a little bit before the vet was ready to see us.
The vet was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. She informed us that maybe it was her glands that got impacted and that surgery was going to be needed. We of course signed up. She left and came back with a bill for the surgery, we agreed on the surgery and she took our kiki and told us to wait for the receptionist lady again to pay the deposit.
This time we had to wait about 30 minutes. When she came out she snapped at us for not having a copy of the bill estimate. She continued to be rude and seemed angry that she had to help us. After that we left.
Later that night the vet called to tell my husband that it wasn’t a gland problem but an abscess. She let us know the surgery was over and that our kiki was okay.
I went back in the morning to pick up our kiki and hear the news. Again I was met by the same rude lady who only seemed slightly happier, probably because she was getting ready to go home. I met with vet again who kinda accused me of not realizing it was an abscess and that she got a cat bite (our cats really don’t play rough at all) and said things like «I had to report it». It kinda seemed like she was blaming me and unwilling to listen to me. I’m sure they get some bad owners, but I don’t think its fair to assume we are all bad owners. Hell I just paid over $ 600 in cash for this visit.
The vet then sent in that same rude lady to explain the medications. She explained them and then just turned out and left me in the room. She didn’t walk me out or anything.
As I was alone getting my kiki in her carrier she took off her cone. Honestly I don’t know what cat really tolerate a cone. Plus its easy to take off when its just around the neck. I have a way we learned when we got her spayed where you can put the gauze around them like a harness and then its harder for them to get the cone off. Well the gauze wasn’t big enough (it goes around under their arms). So I opened the back door and called for help to get a piece of bigger gauze. I called for a few minutes before the rude lady came back. I asked for a longer piece of gauze which she got quite quickly. After getting her cone back on I left.
The place is clean and they seem knowledgeable but when you are worried about your animal the rude staff is really a turn off. Ill be trying a different emergency vet clinic in the future if anything happens.

We have brought our extremely anxious dog there several times and each time they were patient, caring and thorough. I couldn’t have asked for more.

I took a friend’s cat here during a weekend that he was out of town. After the staff determined that my friend had a working credit card, the cat was admitted relatively promptly. The vet gave the cat a hasty, cursory examination, diagnosed a simple urinary tract infection that would require medication, and then took the cat out of the examination room and out of my sight, leaving me to sit alone and wait for almost two hours. Undoubtedly, I would have been left longer had I not entered their back room politely demanding an explanation and a cat to take home. When the vet quoted an astronomical bill for medication and suggested that the cat be left at the hospital for further observation, I hightailed it out of there, feline in hand. Not surprisingly, the cat recovered quickly – on his own, without pills – once the stress of having a missing owner subsided.
It appears that these folks prey on hapless customers who cannot find an available veterinarian on weekends or holidays. They seem to care care more about your ability to pay the bills than about your animal’s health or your time. Don’t give them the satisfaction of exploiting you and your pet.
