Hobbs

Solid five stars because today was my first time here. I’m a bit picky about my lattes as I think many often just take like milk. I order large vanilla soy latte. It was 1. Beautiful (leaf art in the foam) and 2. Smooth, rich and perfectly portioned 3. Affordable; just $ 4.00.
Will happily return and likely camp out with my laptop, guzzling these lattes.

I got my nails done and decided I needed something warm on such a cold, rainy, and dreary day.
Hobbs came up on my Unilocal search for coffee & tea. Those of you who know me (and/​or read my reviews) know I do NOT drink coffee. Tea on the other hand, is a different story. I walked into this quaint coffee shop and was happy I did. There was a handful of people there that were on their laptops with headphones in; I liked the vibe.
I went up to the counter and the guy working was so sweet and nice. There was a short list of what was available that was written in chalk (how old school/​cool is that?!) I chose a hot chai. He asked me if I just wanted a tea bag or make it a latte? I was feeling adventurous and went with the latte. I saw a chocolate muffin and it was screaming «KENISHA, EAT ME FOOL!»
I asked the young guy about it and he told me it was a double chocolate chip muffin; oh? Yeah, add that bad boy to my order as well. My two items came to $ 5 and change. I’d come back again!

Love this place. The breakfast egg sandwiches are the best. It’s a great place to hang out.

Really nice casual college atmosphere. Food is average. Good service. If you’re a Swarthmore student, this place is pretty much the only coffee «study» place lol

I absolutely love Hobbs! We must pass 5 coffee places to get to them. Every time I go in the staff is friendly. At this point they all know my order. Cappuccinos are delicious. Occasionally there is a wait for the coffee but it is worth it! We’ve ordered food from here a few times but not often. Only comment there is if they’re busy you’ll be waiting a LONG time for food. Their food is good but I will note the bagels something to be desired.

Love Hobbs. The staff are always friendly and the food is always homemade and tasty. I like that the place is very community oriented and I can study here as well as bring my friends who have families.

Coffee is typically pretty good but I have had a few misses. I would give 4 stars for coffee and two stars for service. I think most of the locals are used to the fact that no matter what you order it is a 20+ minute wait, if you want to linger and enjoy your coffee that works but occasionally I want to run in a get my coffee in under 10 minutes and be on my way to my daughters swim practice or work and you just can’t plan that. The place is always busy but not more busy that most coffee places with fast service. Nice atmosphere.

I was in the area looking for some coffee and a place to post up to get some work done. Thanks to Unilocal,this was the coffee shop coming up and it had good reviews. Walked in and was pleasantly surprised to see so much seating and there were spots open. Yay!
Ordered the tomato, pesto, mozzarella bagel and a latte. Ordered it for there so was a little bummed the latte was in a to-​go cup, I enjoy my coffee more at a local spot in a mug. It was a good latte tho. The bagel sammie was great on flavor. The tomato was perfectly ripe and the pesto was delicious and garlicy. I do wish the bagel was a little toasted to soften up the moz.
Free Wifi, yay. There were outlets all around so that was a huge plus as well. As a reviewer had mentioned before, it’s not the cleanest but it is a little eclectic so that may be adding to that feel as well. Overall, I was satisfied and left caffeinated and with some work done. Success.
Note on the parking: only metered on the street, max 2 hours.

Food definitely leaves something to be desired. A lot of times that hot items have cold cheese or a weird consistency. Coffee is decent.

I really love their coffee. I wish it wasn’t so dirty, but their coffee keeps bringing me back!

Awesome little local coffee and eating joint. Apple and brie sandwich on bagel was great, along with other brunch items. Service is great, and of course, coffee is hearty and fresh. Would definitely recommend– especially good if you needed a place to zip in and grab a coffee, bite, and do some email work on your laptop! Bunch of veggie options, and eggs are local free range. Right near Swarthmore, so you’ll be right at home in the granola crowd!

We recently installed a new coin operated coffee machine at work (Pathmark). You put your 50 cents in and pick from a number of impressive options and the machine grinds whole coffee beans into a hot cup of coffee.
Because of this, I’ve been able to try some of the more exotic coffee choices (espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, etc.) that I either don’t have the patience for or am too embarrassed to pronounce at coffee shops. It’s especially interesting for me because I maintenance the machine and I know that there are only 3 ingredients involved in running it; coffee beans, powdered cocoa and powdered milk
This brings me to Hobbs. I’ve been coming here frequently, mostly on Tuesdays while waiting for my wash at the nearby laundromat. Even though the food options always look great, I usually just get coffee. Today, however, armed with a wider palate of coffee styles and having YouTubed the correct way to pronounce it, I ordered a macchiato.
It’s safe to say that the lovely girl that prepared my drink did more than my vending machine does to make my coffee, and it showed. It was delicious and may have ruined me to my usual, Skynet made drinks but oh well. A once a week treat is Ok in my book. Well done again Hobbs!

Stopped by here to pick up breakfast this morning on the way to Swarthmore.
LOCATION: Right by the SEPTA tracks/​on the corner. Ample amounts of metered street parking.
MENU: I like the idea of $ 4 prix fixe bagel combo’s – e.g. my sister had the smoked salmon cream cheese and I had nutella banana, but I can see how the same six options can get old if you come here a lot. Coffee is OK, better than Dunkin across the street I suppose.
DECOR: Interesting local artists’ work hanging around that you can peruse/​purchase, and some comics are available for browsing if you’re into that. You could easily spend an afternoon in here – there are booths and couches.
WEBSITE: Minimalist. I like their logo.

The options for cozy coffee shops with good food and pastries, in Delaware county, are few and far between. This place is has a great relaxed atmosphere, plenty of seating, good mochas and lattes, and friendly staff.

Hobbs just has great atmosphere. There’s lots of comfortable seating, local artists’ wares, and a damn decent cup of coffee. It’s a fun place to hang out — comfy couch! Plus, they have bands and stuff. Hobbs is where the cool kids go.

I love it! Their Apple pie chai stole my heart. I’ve never tasted anything better! Their service is great, very friendly people. What’s not to love.

Snow shut down our town and my eggs were expired and my Canadian Bacon looked scary. So I had two choices to eat — Dunkins Donuts for microwave crap or Hobbes. I picked the latter and I’m happy I did. Huge portion of scrambled eggs and cheese, crispy bacon, toast and a nice blend of dark roasted coffee. Fantastic crew working. Two thumbs up — way up!

Hobbs is a roll of the dice. Do not expect your sandwich to taste just as good as the last one, because it may taste great one day, then be really dry the next. They have reliably good waffles, but only on weekends and Mondays. Service is a mix of what look to be college students that are not fast, but manage, and are friendly. They have forgotten parts of my order, and messed up drinks, but are very apologetic and fix things promptly.
I work in Swarthmore and frequently find myself in Hobbs. If you’re looking for a good lunch spot go to the Co-​op they have consistently great sandwiches and soups, I just prefer not to go to the same place more than twice a week so I’m stuck with Hobbs.

Hobbs is exactly what you would expect from an independent coffee shop on the edge of a liberal arts campus in the Philly area: a little small, pretty dark, but really really good!
From what I can see Hobbs offers incredible value. Their lattes are on par with Center City’s best coffee places. My favorite part is the bagel sandwich specials. So far I’ve had a #4 (pesto, mozzarella and tomato) and #5 (apple and brie) and been extremely happy with both. A large latte and one of their bagel sandwich runs you $ 7.50 which is perfect because I get some quarters to pay for the meter outside (1 quarter gives you an hour). Finally, got to love all the different mugs they offer to their patrons– really adds a fun flair.
The internet is also very reliable which is important as I love going to these shops to get some work done. Hobbs is to Swarthmore as Green Line is to Penn… now that’s saying something!

Hobbs continues as one of the nicest coffeehouses in the Philly suburbs. It’s a wonderful place to take a break from the day. Great coffee and great breakfasts. Maybe the fact that I had just completed a 10-​mile hike has something to do with it, but I found their eggs and chorizo absolutely awesome…
