Let me start by saying if you’re in the area and you’re looking for somewhere to eat, you won’t find anything better than here. This place has very good appetizers, burgers, shrimp. The crabcakes are awesome and the crabcake pretzel is an amazing starter dish. Good friendly, fast service. Fair prices, good food and atmosphere. You won’t regret it!

We came her for New Year’s Eve dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. We love it here. I recommend the oyster stew, cream of crab and the nachos. We love the various section of beers. I had the Beck burger and our fellow dinners had the filet and lobster. It’s was all delicious.

this is a main-stay in the local area, they have done well. I recently ordered a becks burger which was suppose tobe 8oz. and maybe it was before it hit the grill, but bye the time it was on my plate, maybe 4oz. the bun oversized the burger. very disappointing, cooked well, but it’s hard to find a burger now days for under $ 10.00. I ‘ll give them another chance, but won’t order the burgers.

Headed to EW Beck’s last night for the first time for dinner. Call ahead seating? YESPLEASE! What a great way to be quickly seated — we barely had time to get our drinks at the bar before we were summoned to a great table. The crab dip is delicious, filled with flavor and lumpy crabby goodness, and served with delicious, crusty bread that I could have eaten all night. We ordered the Mahi tacos — eeh, not great. Served with an ice cream scoop of anemic, flavorless rice(?) and the fish was overcooked and dry. One of us ordered a burger that looked(and he said tasted) wonderful. My advice is to stick to the pub food and forego the specials — I take responsibility for thinking a pub could do beach. Four stars because of the great service and the crab dip. We will definitely be back.

Great food and great service. Crab cakes are the best, but you pretty much can’t order wrong

The food is consistently good as is the service. I had the chili which was the best I can remember anywhere. On the negative side, it is terribly loud in the restaurant making it impossible to have a comfortable conversation.

Imaginative beer menu. Great fresh food. The salads are always nicely crafted with the best fresh cheeses. It can get a little loud so it’s not for quiet conversations especially on game nights.

The crab cakes here are mediocre at best, definitely not worth the price. I would have liked to try their breakfast sometime, but the real turnoff of this place is that the staff is extremely rude, unprofessional, and ignorant. This is one of the only places to eat in Sykesville so it is usually packed and there isn’t a big parking lot. I wont go here again, there are much better places in Eldersburg.

I would have given it a 5 if the burger I’d gotten had matched the description on the menu, specially since that was the only reason we went there tonight. We went so I could try the following burger: Angry Burger A Beck burger dipped in Ghost sauce(SPICY), then topped with house made scotch bonnet relish(VERYSPICY), capicola ham, chipotle mayonnaise, & pepperjack cheese I was excited, because I like heat with flavor. And the chipotle, the relish, the pepperjack — all together sounded like it would provide some great flavor to the burger. I asked for my burger without the bun. I asked they put lettuce above and below it so the relish and mayo would have place to sit. The burger arrived and it looked good. I cut off a piece of just the burger patty, because I expected it to be hot since it’s supposed to be dipped in ghost pepper sauce. It wasn’t dipped in anything. So, now I took every layer apart and looked for what was on it. There were 2 different sauces, one looked and tasted like it could be a chipotle mayo, and the other was a ghost pepper sauce. They both tasted very good. There was however nothing that looked like a relish. BUT, there were 4 halves of some pepper. Since they weren’t mentioned on the menu, I asked our server who said she’d have to ask in the kitchen. Which, in itself is weird, considering this is a specialty item on their menu! She came back and told me that was the scotch bonnet pepper. Well, cutting 2 peppers in half and throwing it on top of my burger patty doesn’t make it a relish. Overall, it was an ok burger. Without the chunks of pepper, the burger tasted pretty good. With the pepper chunks, it was too hot for any flavor to come through. But, I have to wonder if I even got the burger they usually serve and that’s advertised on their menu.

I have to say… I really do love Becks. It’s ALWAYSCROWDED… but I think that speaks to it’s popularity and consistent quality. It’s a little pricier than Chili’s up the street, but it’s real fresh food so it’s worth it. I miss living in the Sykesville apartments and stumbling my way home from Becks :-)

My girlfriend and I have come here a few times. We have never been disappointed. Their tapa’s idea… eh. but the craft beer menu and the assortment more than makes up for it. Great place. we will definitely return again and again. the bar is small, but the outdoor area. Nice!

I went in during Sunday brunch and it was PACKED. That being said, service was unfortunately compromised from the volume. My waitress was apologetic and sweet, and I’m a softy when it comes to servers who bust their bums so I didn’t let it affect my experience. Their mimosas were almost $ 6 a glass which was initially a turn off, but when they brought it out it was in a hearty draft glass so I was happy! I ordered the eggs benedict which honestly was cooked to perfection. Eggs benedict from other places tend to have undercooked poached eggs and have the dish swimming in hollandaise but they had the art of the dish down to perfection! Perfectly poached, a nice tablespoon of hollandaise on each English muffin with perfectly cooked ham. They also served it with potato hash which was prepared differently that I’ve ever had. The potatoes were cooked with onions and seasonings, but the potatoes were sliced like chips so some were soft and some were crispy. I loved it and didn’t even need ketchup! I definitely will be returning to try more brunch items and also things from their lunch & dinner menus. It’s very much like a pub inside so it’s cozy and comfortable. I had a seat by the fireplace. I’m looking forward to seeing what else they have to offer here!

Way over priced in my opinion, got the crab cake… Alot of shells in this one, could have been better, have had better elsewhere, steak fatty, disappointed, expected better because I’ve heard good things, maybe should have just had a liquid dinner.

Fave place in E-burg/Sykesville. Wings are so so. Burgers are great, as is the bbq. Crab wontons and steamed shrimp are outstanding.

This is the perfect location for a chill get together. I went for a friend’s birthday dinner. I dig the underground, local scene. Not a fan of the Happy Hour specials ONLY applying to those dining in the bar area, but I’ll let that slide because the craft beer selection was solid and the food is delicious.

Well I can definitely say I’m a fan of this place. Being that I live an hour away from this establishment and I have had 4 days in a row of interesting eating in Carroll County I saved this place for my last visit. We walked in and you could tell it was type of happy hour and the bar was packed. We were seated right away and our waitress was at our table within in seconds to get our drink order and explain the menu. We ordered the supreme nachos, steak salad and the Beck Burger(Double Cheese and Bacon). The nachos came out faster than expected and were better than we thought they would be. Our entrees were time perfectly with the completion of the nachos, obviously at the diligently observant waitress. The burger was delicious and the steak salad was out of this world. The steak was seasoned and cooked just right. As far as the other reviews go on the noise level or the lack of service here is my view. I tend to be very outgoing, forward and comical. Usually works in my benefit so maybe there is something I missed in the previous reviews but our service was on point. As far as the noise goes, well it’s a pub. I wouldn’t imagine going to a pub and being able to hear a pin drop. Not saying that on other nights it might not have been rowdy but this evening seemed like a cheerful crowd, welcoming staff as well as customers. The staff were resourceful, respectful and went above and beyond to answer my questions. Kudos to this business for bring the charm back in small business.

I just wanted to point out that I still love coming here. Now that its summer we take advantage of the weather and sit outside on their patio. The patio consists of just a handful of tables and 2 tvs but theres never a wait for outdoor seating. I am disappointed that the red sangria I raved about in my previous review isn’t a year-round drink(the summer menu only has a pink sangria which isn’t a standard simple sangria but rather a twist on one). Its okay though because I found a love for something else there… the house made pepper parmesan dressing. YUM! I can’t eat store bought dressing anymore which the most recent waitress we had agreed with. The best part is… you can buy it to go! Score!

Went with friends recently, ordered chicken wings & crab pretzel apps. Wings were small but tasty. Crab pretzel was just OK. No crab meat, just a ton of mayo & spices, very mushy. Pass on that. Cheesesteak sub was average… hardly any steak & the roll was way too big & fluffy. Too much bread. Get better sub rolls. Who serves fluffy rolls with a steak & cheese? I guess the idea is to give the impression you are getting a lot of food. Fries were just OK. A tad greasy. My opinion is the kitchen needs to step it up a little. Stop being average & make it good.

Scott Beck and staff have the beer pub business model perfected to a tee. Solid and sometimes imaginative food in a comfortable atmosphere that promotes free-flowing suds, which is the point of this neighborhood gem. During both lunch and dinner(the latter on weekends, particularly) the wait staff can get overrun and nevigating the crowded restaurant without tripping over chair legs can get to be a bit of the challenge. Opening an additional dining room a few years ago helps to a point, but the venue could really use additional square footage. The crowding issue is the only thing holding back a five-star rating.

Beck’s is a restaurant/pub located on the Main Street of a tiny yet well preserved town known as Sykesville. Initial impression upon entering was that the dining room was chilly, and that the music(top 40) was too loud for a Saturday lunch scene. We had to raise our voices a bit to speak which is crazy for a weekend lunch in a tiny town. Beck’s has amassed a respectable beer list with a focus on craft beers, and is clearly going for the gastropub vibe. The menu was extensive and seemed to meander across several genres. I was feeling experimental so I got the half and half– cream of crab layered on top of tomato-based crab soup. It worked for the most part but I wouldn’t order it again. The service was good; maybe a little forced. I’m not sure what this place is like at night, but it makes for a decent lunch which could be much improved by making the dining area more diner-friendly.
