This place is hands down the best hardware store I have ever shopped at. Friendly atmosphere with very very helpful and friendly staff. If I even look like I am lost someone always comes up to ask me if I need help with anything at all. I see why my employer has been shopping with them for the past decade or so.
Aside from the amazing customer service they also sell a variety of products that really catch your eye, even chickens! This is the place that makes every small business worth shopping at. I absolutely can not stand Home Depot anymore and there ridiculous staff who runs away when they see you (that is for a separate review).
Great job Coopers keep up the great work!

Buyer Beware!!! This is a corrupt business. They are living off of an old reputation and they take advantage of this. Their prices are oftentimes 40% higher than elsewhere, and they will give you a used product, claiming it’s new. They will bully and lie. And then they laugh at you. They promote employees to hire out, yet David Cooper doesn’t have a contractor’s license to protect you. That’s illegal and dangerous for the customer. Since some of the employees are not literate in any language, they will try to reduce the job you need done to one where the employee doesn’t have to follow directions, only visual cues.
Cooper’s no longer services the community of Sylmar in its entirety. They are low end, sell cheap products, are immature, childish in behavior and the owner still uses his mom to get him out of trouble. BTW: I was refunded by the credit card company.

Went into Coopers again today to get some chicken feed. Evidently this place hires people right out of prison or something. Walked in this morning and there was 3 or 4 employees behind the counter eating their breakfast, the counter was covered with food like it was a buffet or something. I stood there for a few minuets before a very rude girl asked what I wanted, treated me like I was bothering her or something. Paid her for my chicken feed and noticed I was short changed 10.00, I brought it to her attention and she rudely threw my 10 dollars at me. I’m the type that never complains but this place has the rudest, dumbest employees I have ever seen, with the exception of Frank and one of the guys who works out back. This place has the «you need us, we don’t need you» attitude, oh well

purchased nasty dog food and i had a receipt for a return, however they jerk owner did not want to issue me a refund. there overpriced and THEY ARE NOT CUTOMER FRIENDLY. you know what type of owners these are. STAY AWAY. TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. your better of shopping at a larger store chain. just like the dollar tree that closed. I am suprised this store has not closed.

Worst costumer service! The cashier guy was looking at us like what do you want? As if we were bothering him. So Unprofessional! Only one guy in this store that was helpful! Everyone else loomed like they hated there job! This will definitely be the last time I will be coming here and will sure let everyone know how bad there costumer service is!

Amazing staff that helped me from the second I walked in to te second I walked out… most importantly they have items that the larger hardware stores like Home Depot does not have. I found some top rails for my kitchen cabinets from here… I was looking for them EVERYWHERE!

They have a wide selection of screws, nuts and bolts. Way more selection than Home Depot or Lowes. If you can’t find it at the big box store you can usually find it at Coopers Hardware.
I’ve heard their prices on equestrian supplies are good — I don’t have a horse so I wouldn’t know. Some of their other hardware items tend to be on the pricer side versus what you might pay at the bigger box stores. Still I try to support Coopers when I can because I want them to stay in business and my kids like going to check out the baby chickens, ducks, etc that they sell (note: they aren’t always in stock).

I moved to Sylmar 5 years ago and since the day I arrived, Cooper’s Hardware is my go-​to personal assistant! I love the fact that it is staffed with local people who know our community. Frank can find anything I need based on my sketchy descriptions and David, the owner, is very personable, friendly and helpful. I just met Jesse this month and he’s been so helpful helping me put together a project for my patio. I am so grateful for their knowledgable support… something I can’t always get at the big box hardware stores!

Five stars. Why? BEST KEPT SECRET for quality horse hay in the Los Angeles area. They will deliver to Glendale/​Burbank so stop paying crazy prices locally and buy your hay here. #1 alfalfa for only $ 17/​bale and it’s beautiful. Best thing ever, they’re open at 7 AM every day AND they’re open Sundays, which a lot of feed stores aren’t — awesome for busy working people who can’t deal with 9 – 5 feed stores.

I see this store has received some very negative reviews. As such I was reluctant to go but needed a few items and ran out in my lunch break to the nearest store. I was in and out in 5 minutes. The guy who helped me was super nice and immediately gathered the items I asked for. The checkout girl was also very nice. The scary woman described in other reviews was not there. I would definitely return.

I went in and bought Hay, I ordered 6 bales and got five. When I called about the shortage they acted like I was a thief. I routinely buy hay from them and spend 700 every 6 weeks on hay. That’s 8400.00 a year… Do they really think I would try to steal a bale of hay??? I’m a old lady and I don’t steal. I also don’t have time to hassle anyone for a bale of hay. I’m out 20 bucks for hay and they are out of a customer and the additional $$$ I spend on the other things I buy when I’m there. I also have sent them soooo much hay biz and now will tell everyone what crappy service I got. Buyer Beware…

Coopers is Awesome — old fashion hardware store. Go to Big Box if you want cheap — go to Coopers if you want fair, value and service. Sylmar is in LA but go to Coopers and you feel like your in a small town!!! They help you and they care about you.

…My dad sent me over here to get some electrical fuses… they should have been about $ 4.50 for a box of 6… but this guy working there… charged me $ 4.50 per fuse… pretty big difference… I told the cashier No way… the manager was called and the right price was charged… the employee knew the right price all along… he’s been working there for years… but he figured I didn’t…and he was right. since my dad told me they should be about 5 bucks… I knew something was up… there was no apology or anything… in fact he shrugged away, upset that he wasn’t able to scam me… not today outlaw…

I’ve been dealing with Cooper for almost 25 years now, and never thought to write a review until today. This is absolutely the best hardware store anywhere in the San Fernando Valley. I had to buy replacement glass for my greenhouse, for probably the 10th time (thank you Santa Ana winds). The service is outstanding and I ended up buying a thingamabob that I didn’t know the name of, but with a general description they knew exactly what I needed [ it was a cap end for a garden hose]. Thank you Cooper Hardware… please don’t let the big box stores push you out. We need Mom and Pop businesses like yours.

Okay, I’m now even more of a fan of Cooper Hardware. I needed 3/​16″ shelf holder pegs for a bathroom cabinet and could not find them anywhere-​I mean anywhere. So, while my folks were in town, my father and I went to Cooper Hardware to pick up chicken feed and, low and behold, Cooper had the pegs. They also had the parts I needed to fix my circa 1962 bi-​fold doors that they don’t make anymore. On another recent visit, I also picked up some powdered spic-​and-​span which I have been unable to find in liquid or powder form at any grocery store. My father looooved the place and later told my boyfriend all about the hard to find stuff they have there and that he should shop there. Lastly, I have to add, all the people who work there are still very nice and helpful.
