Duran & Sons Universal Plumbing & Rooter

I wanted to update my review from February of 2014 as I have just finished dealing with these horrible plumbers. I would not recommend them to any one I wish I could pull my previous review. So after they came to fix the toilet, we have a huge leak in the down stairs bathroom, we went through the insurance, these guys started the job and then when they tried to OVER and when I say OVER i mean really OVER charge us and we asked about it, they refused to come back and finish the work, we then had to hire another company to come finish what these idiots had started. They couldn’t even have the decency to call us and let us know that they weren’t coming back they just stopped showing up, and when we called them to came back they kept saying they were coming and just never showed. Seems kind of child like to me especially for a company. At the same time we had them also replace a water heater which of course now is leaking again. At the time they refused to give us a receipt for the water heater which we thought was odd but they assured us if anything went wrong we wouldn’t need a receipt to return it to home depot, and they charged us a supposed extra $ 400 that they claim they had to pay at home depot, which I found out later was complete bs. What they also forgot to mention when refusing to give us the receipt is if something were to happen with in the first year that the company Rheem will pay for the labor to have it replaced but only if you have a receipt. When i reached out to them for some help on the issue they just said oh we dont keep receipts to bad. So obviously now I have to pay someone else to come get the water heater and return it and put a new one because these idiots were complete assholes and refused to give us a receipt. I hope that no one ever uses them. And I personally will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, for their shaddy actions and the fact that they are just a horrible company, so if you like sneaking stealing plumbers that will take your money and not do the work then by all means these guys are for you. I WISH I COULD GIVE THEM LESS THAN ONE STAR FOR THEIR HORRIBLE BUSINESS.

Great experience — after a kitchen sewer connection collapsed under my slab, James came right out to give me a second opinion. His price was $ 6k less than a competing trenchless company. He started work the next day (Saturday morning) and everything was done and fixed very quickly. Highly recommend.

Duran & sons plumbing came to my house to fix our toilet that was overflowing. This company is amazing! They were very nice, very professional and very honest. I would pick this company over any other company in LA. They were fast and know exactly what was wrong. I were having. Bathroom problems for months and my father being a general contractor he tried everything to fix it but nothing worked. James has a lot of knowledge and was able to clean all our stress within minutes. I’m very grateful.

Duran and Sons did some plumbing working for my aunt and uncle a couple of years ago. In order to fix the problem they had to dig up the concrete in the front yard. They did a beautiful job patching it back up and even a added a little something extra for the water hose.

I would recommend Duran & Sons to anyone! I needed a plumber late at night and they sent a technician right away! He was helpful and fixed the problem in no time. Prices are reasonable and they are pleasant to work with.

These guys are great. They were able to show up on the same Morning I called and solved my problem quickly for surprisingly little money. Further, the Plumber was extremely courteous, his truck and equipment were new and he cleaned up the area completely upon finishing.
I suspect the people having trouble with their home warranty insurance aren’t familiar with the terms (I have a policy myself and elected not to use it for this visit) and are blaming Duran unjustly. Essentially they are shooting the messenger.
Without hesitation I recommend them!

Thank god for my homeowners insurance company. First American was very helpful in getting a plumber out to my house asap. My pipes were corroded and I basically needed complete repiping done. After I couldn’t get the first plumber to come out on my schedule (I’m an emergency room nurse), First American sent over someone from Duran and sons plumbing. They were great and even came out on Memorial Day, my only day off. My pipes are done and they used a machine that only put two holes in the ground instead of digging up my whole garden. That would have been a shame. Highly recommend them.

I got stuck with them, too… First American sent them. I even told the saleswoman who called from First American to get me to sign up with them again that these plumbers are THE REASON I would not re-​up my contract. Unfortunately, they still seem to be using them, based on what I’ve seen here.
These plumbers don’t do good work (same complaint about mixing up the hot and cold water… you’re plumbers, for Heaven’s sake… how do you screw up something SO SIMPLE??!) and YES! That woman on the phone is one of the devil’s minions. I’m sure of it. The hounds in the background are more evidence. Anyway, she is one of the rudest, most unhelpful people with whom I have ever dealt. And that’s only when I would call… these people rarely called me back. And just, screwed up one thing after another. They’d lie, and cut corners and then have to come out and fix what they didn’t do correctly the first time. Terrible business practices. Trust the reviews that don’t seem like shills or one of the owner’s friends giving them five-​star ratings… I’d be willing to bet fifty times what I paid them (and that darned First American) that they’ve never earned a five-​star rating for anything. Except maybe spreading evil and frustration…

i got stuck with Duran and Sons plumbing because they are partnered with my Home Warranty Insurance company. My tankless water heater wasn’t working, and it took them forever to find someone who can handle it. Fortunately, Rogee Plumbing happened to be working on my neigbhor’s water heater. Ron from Rogee volunteered to take a look at the heater, and reset it for no charge. He recommended that I look in on getting a new gas valve, but he wasn’t covered by my insurance, so I waited to hear back from Duran and Sons. The receptionist with them seemed really incompetent and didn’t understand what I was telling her. She finally set it up so that the plumber from Duran and Sons can come by. He took a look at it and said there weren’t any problems. I can’t really say anything about the competence of the plumber since he didn’t do anything, but it’s about 3 weeks later and guess what? My water heater stopped working gain. I called Duran and Sons, and the receptionist again was incompetent. She keeps saying she’ll call back at a certain time and never does. I think she works from home with the dogs barking in the background, which is why she is incapable of respecting other people’s time to not want to have to be stuck at home – most of us have to go into offices and can’t be available at a drop of a hat for THEIR schedule. If you have a choice and aren’t stuck with them to work with, I recommend going with someone else, even just based on the rudeness of the receptionist. My interactions with Rogee Plumbing has been good so far. So, you may want to give them a try.

The son James came to look at a water heater that needed relighting. He seemed like a very nice young man. He said it needed to be replaced. I thought «well, no big deal it’s a home warranty call». Like Space L said they wanted to charge me 80 to 120 bucks a part for four 15 dollar parts for a total of $ 395.00!!! That’s on top of the $ 55.00 deductible we already paid. The lady on the phone was beyond rude and said «That’s how we make our money. They only pay us $ 100.00 to do the install so it’s not even worth our time to do the job unless we add on a bunch of C.O.D.s. SHE ADMITTED THEY ARE RIPPING PEOPLE OFF!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! After she hung up on me (I called her out on it) my wife called to try and smooth things over. She hung up on my wife too. I called home warrantee and they said Duran was refusing to do the install. AVOID THESE CRIMINALS AT ALL COSTS!!!

A good plumber is worth his weight in gold and hiring a plumber can be tricky business, because most customers aren’t experienced enough to know when they are being hustled, and are caught in a vulnerable position at a compromising time.
Fred Duran is as good as it gets when it comes to honest plumbers. His guys may not «smell good and show up on time» like others advertise, (not that any of them stink…) but they do damn good work for a fair price.

If your home insurance sent them over there ain’t much you can do… except open your wallet and get charged $ 120 for a $ 9 piece of equipment. (this is where the plumbing company makes their money… insurance co gives work to lowest bidder)
That being said… friendly service. (and to the best of my limited plumbing knowledge) they did a good install job on my water heater.
Also… the owner/​dispatch person was empathic to my concerns (time off work money loss vs what they were charging me) and was able to work out a cost we both could live with. Although I had to ‘act a little crazy’ to make that happen.
Bottom line: felt like I paid too much when my insurance co led me to believe it was free … but happy with the work that was eventually done.
Will put them on my Christmas card mailing list.

Knowledgeable, reliable, friendly guys, great service, fair prices.
I’ve had them out to my place for big and not so big jobs and they treat each one with the same dedication and professionalism.
They are the first people I call whenever I need any work done.
