T&O Thai & Sushi Restaurant

Another great sushi dinner at T&O.
Super fresh fish, well prepared and well presented.

The décor in this place is super pretty but that’s about the only thing they have going on for them. The soft shell crab wasn’t good, the sushi rolls had wasabi inside when it didn’t say that on the menu, the pad Thai was lumpy and sticky and not what pad Thai should look/​taste like. There’s just too many things wrong at this place. Find somewhere else to eat.

Great place that we’ll be returning to! I got a Groupon to try it out with my husband celebrating his birthday. The location is definitely harder to find since it’s behind a bank but they do have a sign visible on Jericho Turnpike to let you know where to turn.
The décor of the restaurant is very nice; we were there at 5:30 on a Monday so the place was pretty empty. Service was good; waitress was very attentive. We got aged tofu and tempura shrimp as appetizers, then the love boat for main course. They asked what we wanted as the special roll; I thought that was a nice touch since I feel like we usually don’t get a choice! We ended up getting the volcano roll which was spicy and delicious! I usually am kinda meh about rolls but this one really was great! Another surprise was they had uni on the love boat, which I rarely see!

Bonnie G. and I visited T&O on Saturday night circa 9pm… We had this on our to go to list for awhile and had the need for Thai so we tried it. The entry to this place is a mess. if going West on Jericho, you need to turn into the Friendlies parking lot and go around the back and down the ramp to T&O. The place is quaint… like being in a cavern with stone looking walls and water running down the middle. Our first impression was that it was different but comfortable. We were immediately greeted and offered seating in a couple of areas… we chose the right side which was kind of not a good choice., There is a passage to the kitchen right there with people wheeling garbage cans etc past us all during our meal. But, on a bright note, Alex the youngish owner came to visit with us and tell us all about his restaurant. T&O are the first letters of his two young daughters first names. He is very affable and a pleasure to converse with. He took our orders and I asked if he could prepare the food Thai Hot. It seems that due to the local taste buds not being able to handle it he does not have the hot chili’s to make it really Thai hot but he does a add a bit of heat… not hot but a bit of heat!
For appys we ordered:
*Duck Spring Roll — looked nice and crispy but I personally didnt taste the duck… Bonnie G. differed and said she liked it.
*Tuna Pizza– Delicious! will be sure and get it again
* Shanghai Dumplings — (soup dumplings) Only 4 to order and quite small… but with good taste. missed the rush of alot of hot soup from the regular size dumplings we get in Flushing.
Mains:
* Spicy Basil Pad KraPow with chicken — Well prepared with good taste and a bit of heat… good choice
* Jumbo Shrimp in Garlic Sauce — Really like this dish… well prepared with lots of taste and again lite burn.
* Coconut Rice — Best I ever had… they give you some extra Coconut Milk to pour on top and its outrageous.
We will put T&O on our short list for Thai in Syosset and return to try more dishes. The people there are so nice and take such good care that how can you not return… And we need to try the Sushi!

This restaurant is very elegant looking compared to its neighbors, but that’s probably the best part about it. The second best thing is definitely the service. The waitress was so very attentive although she was a bit confused when I called the food I was ordering by their Asian name because she said no one ever uses it in that area (yikes). My friend and I ordered:
–soft shell crab which was bland and it must have been fried in old oil because it tasted like it.
–cha Gio which which also left a lot to be desired. I love cha Gio. I can’t believe they ruined it like this.
–snow king crab roll which was the best thing I had there though it wasn’t the best roll.
–shrimp pad Thai– which wasn’t really pad Thai, it was more like a gloop of pasta with two shrimps
And lastly the passion roll. This was spicy as hell. It had spicy mayo and wasabi (which I didn’t see mentioned on the menu) and it was basically fire. Too spicy to even be able to tell if it was good or not. Which was probably for the best considering the rest of the food was flavorless.

Very good meal, started with Tuna Bomb app, excellent.
Red curry dish was delicious w fresh vegetables and nice coconut flavor broth.
Finished w 2 specialty rolls, and the fried banana for dessert.
Only bummer was they apparently don’t have anything on cordial menu (Irish coffee, etc) anymore.
Will be back.

If you like a restaurant with good atmosphere, T&O could be it, but don’t bother if you are going for the food. Food was overcooked, Pad Tai noodle was cooked way too soft and mushy without some of the expected ingredients like veggies. Meat came out way too dry. The shrimp crackers were very oily. Didn’t order sushi, hopefully, it’s better than the hot food. Giving an extra star for the décor and service. Service was good and friendly.

The décor is absolutely breathtaking and serene inside of this hidden restaurant behind friendly in Syosset. I work for an organization across the street and heard this place was a good choice. Not sure they take FOOD ALLERGIES as serious as they should since one on our party had a peanut allergy and NUTS were atop pf the salad. But the service was excellent, the green tea was served piping hot with a side of honey, and the food items were pleasantly presented to us. It was rather pricey but for a night out with friends and enjoyment of the atmosphere ill chalk it up to that. The menu is actually advantageous to most as there are pictorial depictions of the Thai selections. They also have basic General Tsos, Sesame chicken for the «Americanized» selections that are our all-​time favorites. Water and Tea were filled without prompt. Table was cleared at appropriate times. We would visit again.

Can’t say much about the Thai food here, because that’s not what I came for. The sushi here is phenomenal, I must say. I had the Nagasaki roll and a Spicy Crab roll. Both were delicious. The avocado they used was the freshest, creamiest, most wonderful thing I’ve had at a sushi place. A little pricier than where I usually go, but I think that’s fair given the quality. Staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. Food came out quickly.
I’d give 5 stars but I was disappointed with their Thai Iced Tea. Not very sweet and had a strange taste to it.
Overall I’m very pleased. I’m in a happy little sushi food coma. I will probably recommend this place to friends.

went there for lunch. The place reeked of smoke and the owner/​host kinda pointed us to the back meaning for us to seat ourselves lol. We ordered our food to a waitress that basically threw the silverware and cups at us too. We then noticed that we were basically the only party there in the entire restaurant. The ambience of the restaurant is nice considering they just used the décor from the previous owners. The food was okay but nothing special at all (good for the lunch special price though)
Overall B– Nothing special about this place unless you appreciate mediocre food and snappy (and I don’t mean quick) service.

If you didn’t like galangal you won’t like T&O. They may have changed their name but nothing else changed.
Mediocre noodles. Take out places serve better food at half the price. Poor service. One dish came out 10 minutes after the rest.

Haters all around — this place has serviceable food. I ordered some sweet potato rolls and avocado rolls. Both were delicious and had great consistency to them. The Massaman curry was creamy and smooth, with the right amount of spice. The veggie dumplings were a little over steamed to the point I couldn’t stick them with a fork… whatever. All around they were polite, prompt, and I’ll definitely order from them again. Not sure how this place inherited all the reviews of the former tenant on Unilocal,but they are better by far than Galangal ever was. Welcome to the neighborhood T & O, good luck!

This restaurant uses to be Galangal thai restaurant. Now it’s under new owner. The food is so bad you can’t even put it in your mouth. It is extremely salty, like you were eating salt. I can’t begin to describe how disgusting the food is. Order and taste it for yourself.

Was ok, I asked for spicy and was mild. Delivery time was good. And price was not bad.

Oof. Not sure if there was a management shift or what, but I’ve had a few recent poor experiences since they changed names from Galangal. The food is similar (although it seems to be a notch lower), but the service in there is all over the place. It’s hours say it opens at 11, but they are in no way ready to roll at 11. Dishes come out at random times, incorrect dishes come out… it’s a hot mess. Hopefully, they can get this worked out and return to being the go-​to Thai spot in the area.

Are you Serious!!! You gotta be kidding me!!! Authentic ??? I am freaken disappointed !!!, I don’t usually wasted my time writing review, but I felt like I need to warn people out there.

Wasted my money on a lousy food. I can deal with paying a high price if the food is good, I mean Thai and Sushi combo restaurant, that should be a warning sign to stay away.

Galangal is becoming one of my favorite restaurants around. Every dish here is incredibly delicious and very affordable. Plus the décor is beautiful and romantic. Great for dates and such. My personal favorite dish here is the chicken katsu.
This is place is a must-​try.

I went here because it bills it’s self as «authentic Thai food»…which it is not.
The essential character of Thai food is the combination of spicy, sour and salty. This is exactly what this place does not serve. If you look up a dictionary for what Thai food is not they show a picture of this place. It just serves sickly sweet, syrupy… burp…sorry even writing about it makes me feel nauseous again :-/​
For the chef (who cannot possibly have any respect for Thai food) and all the reviewers who love the place, here’s a tip for whether Thai food is authentic or not,
is it spicy ?
is it sour?
is it salty?
is it sweet?
The answer to the first three questions should be YES!
The answer to the last question is NO!
Let me say that again one more time: Thai food is not sweet.
My wife and I ordered a Larb Gai to start which is a great way to test the authenticity of Thai food I find, but at the very first mouthful we both looked at each other in pure amazement, IT WAS A DESSERT!, they had turned a super spicy, fresh, healthy exceptional meal… into a sickly fattening desert. There must have been half a cup of sugar in it. To understand just how out of character this is you need to understand that a Larb is the antithesis of a desert, so it wasn’t just adulterated it was an absolute polar opposite of it’s self.
We sent it back twice trying to at least get some kick to the food.
We then had a green curry which was bland and uninteresting (sad thing to say about Thai food). I eventually just asked for fresh chopped chillies and limes to squeeze so we could season it ourselves. I think the waitress was amazed that we wanted actual chillies in Thai food.
Here’s another tip, if you don’t like spicy food you don’t actually like Thai food… not sure what you like but it is not Thai food, hating spicy food and going to a Thai restaurant is like hating pasta and going to an Italian restaurant.
The really scary thing is realizing how the American pallet is adapted to sugar, food has to be sweet for a restaurant to succeed it seems? This sugar addiction just destroys real food by dumbing down complex flavors to a childish one dimensional consistently SWEET experience.
I have been living in NYC and Long Island for 15 years now and once just once I would like to eat some really good Thai food. It seems that any effort to create an upscale Thai restaurant has a corresponding rise in sugar levels. Having eaten real Thai food it nearly makes me cry to see what is done to this truly spectacular cuisine.
…OK now I have that out of my system (the frustration not the sugar) I should say that the place looks great and maybe the sushi (which as I always point out does not require cooking) might be good, I will never know because I wont be back. When we finally asked for the bill, they asked if we wanted desert, we said «no thanks» we already had it!

I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time. Here goes nothing!
I have been eating at Galangal for a few years now. At this point, I can say with confidence that it is my absolute favorite restaurant on Long Island! I have a few go-​to dishes. I typically order either the Roasted Cashew Stir Fry (with chicken, no mushrooms, no spicy sauce; they might as well re-​create the dish and call it the Kristen Stir Fry) or the Pad See Ew with chicken. Both are absolutely incredible. Very tasty, with fresh ingredients, etc. I’ve also tried many of the sushi rolls (amazing). The Coconut Rice is also ridiculously good. you MUST try it!
One of the best things about the food at Galangal is that it leaves you feeling completely satisfied, without that «wow, i’m way too stuffed» feeling. I’m sure you alllll know what I mean.
The service is also great; I have no complaints whatsoever.
All I can hope for is that this restaurant sticks around for a LONG time! Keep up the good work Galangal :)

Upon entering, the décor was beautiful, especially the fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Had the duck roll appetizers, thai iced tea, and beef pad thai. Duck roll was really good, especially with the dipping sauce. Thai iced tea was okay, but very bitter. The ones Ive had in Thailand were a lot sweeter and creamier, but you still had that tea kick without the bitter after taste. Pad thai came out which was beautifully presented with an ‘egg net’ effect on top. Pad thai was not bad but also not amazing. Prices and pretty high, but than again you are probably paying for the area too. I would maybe go back to try a lunch special or something, but there are for sure more authentic Thai places to go to.
