Gannon’s Ice Cream

Gannon’s Ice Cream has as a bright, vibrant feel to it, with its welcoming atmosphere! It helps that there is some great ice cream here as well! You are able to order outside or inside the establishment, so this helps especially on a nice warm day in the summer when more people are looking to get ice cream. They have seating both inside and outside. What I like inside is that the walls are full of artwork and murals that have a ice cream feel to them. This is why I mention it’s very friendly towards kids, as you can definitely feel like a kid again eating inside.
They have a wide variety of flavors here and I does seem they rotate many seasonal flavors. It looks like they have well over 30 flavors to choose from to get and make into sundaes. In addition, the menu also has shakes, slushes, smoothies, flurries, and etc. There even have some soft ice cream options and dipped ice cream (in chocolate, cherry, peanut butter, nuts).
I opted to get two flavors on a cone, choosing the one scoop of Black Raspberry Truffle and Pistachio Almond on a waffle cone. Both flavors were great. The Black Raspberry Truffle was not an overwhelming flavor that I thought it could have been and I really enjoy Pistachios in general, so having almonds in there was a nice touch. And no the Pistachio is not a vibrant green, it is the natural color you expect it to be!
With so many flavors here, I would be intrigued to return and try others!

Best ice cream anywhere in Syracuse… nay, the world! Great selection of delicious flavors of homemade hard ice cream and a nice selection of soft ice cream. Customer service is always great and the serving sizes are plentiful (1 scoop will fill you up). Personal favorite is the Peanut Butter Blast Sundae made with Charlie Brown hard ice cream (chocolate with peanut butter swirls). We wait all winter for them to reopen.

Pumpkin and black raspberry are my favorite. Each year the pumpkin is a star in the fall experience.

Best ice cream in Central NY. If you are lucky enough to go there when the Crème Brûlée ice cream is available it’s a must try. Incredible.

Not as good as the local joint back home, but is the best iced cream in ‘Cuse. The selection changes, but if the lemon custard is there YOU MUST GET IT! The prices are decent, and the quality is very high! A must have if you are in the syracuse area.

2) How does Gannon so frequently run out of their most popular flavors? Seriously, every time I bother to try Gannon’s, why are they always out of Chocolate Raspberry Truffle when I want it? You know who has NEVER been out of my favorite flavor? Purity Ice Cream in Ithaca. Next time I crave ice cream, I’ll drive the 60 miles to Ithaca before I go back to Gannon’s.
3) Strawberry Rhubarb Ice Cream doesn’t taste anything like that… tasted like Vanilla with some Strawberry flavoring. Really disappointing, I couldn’t even eat it, I tossed at least 75% of it after quickly becoming sickened by the bland generic sweetness of this flavor. Where was the tartness from the Rhubarb?
4) After you’re done eating your generic lame ice cream from Gannon’s, you can head over to the dollar store across the street and buy Dollar Store Meat. There was a large banner hung outside the store for $ 1 steaks. I’m sure the neighborhood used to be OK… in the 1950s?

This place is awesome! Thank god for being able to Unilocal at your current location. I was on route 81 with my family… driving to Canada… random, I know… and everyone wanted ice cream. Gannon’s isle came up so we decided to go there and boyyyyyy was everyone beyond satisfied. My family is a bunch of ice cream snobs and they would give this place a 10 out of 5! We got 2 no sugar added black raspberry, cookies and cream, chocolate raspberry truffle, Charlie Brown (chocolate & peanut butter swirl) and a pineapple strawberry milkshake. We accidentally ended up getting 6 things between 7 of us and it was a mistake. A portion of a single scoop is massive. We will definitely be skipping out on lunch and maybe our next 3 meals!
They have an outdoor order window and a cute little indoor place where you can also order and sit. There’s a lot of space and the paint/​art around the place is just great!!! I love it!
Overall, it’s a nice place so check this place out if you’re in the area. I know definitely will if I come back this way!
***addition. We went back on the drive home. Still solid. Family got pineapple soft serve, chocolate and vanilla soft serve. While my brother and I got batter up which is a brownie batter ice cream with cookie dough and plain cookie dough ice cream. I’m not a fan of pineapple ice creams but everyone else liked it. There were a million pieces of cookie dough in my ice cream. I was happy!

Very simple. If you are in Syracuse NY and like ice cream… go to Gannon’s.
You will not be disappointed no matter what flavor ice cream you pick.

I had the milky way ice cream. In hindsight I really wished I had a bigger stomach to also try the charlie brown and the almond one. The value is really good. For a huge scoop, it’ll set you back less than $ 3. The milky way had what you’d think it would — caramel, chocolate, a vanilla-​based ice cream. It seemed to have a lot of cream, so it won’t melt too fast… which means take your time, because you’ll freeze your tongue and stop appreciating the flavor! ⁸⁄₁₀

Simply the best, wonderful ice cream and do many flavors to choose from.
Only down side is the location,
Generally fatty service so err can get out of the area quick.
When you go get the pint and ask for a spoon. They will mix a few flavors together too

There is a reason that this place has sooo many amazing reviews — because it is simply amazing. Living in Rochester we pretty much only have custard but being from Syracuse, I want soft ice cream not frozen custard which makes a visit to here even better.
I came most recently with a couple of my nieces and were all happy. I got s soft vanilla with cherry dip and it was awesome. the ice cream is amazing as is the cherry dip but picking that was sooo hard because they have so many amazing flavors and options to pick from. Being that soft ice cream is a treat for me I just went with what I knew i loved and would crave later.
I also love the paintings on the walls. It is so colorful and fun; perfect for children. There is a spot to order outside with seating, and the same inside. There is always a line and it is for a reason.
Even if you have a little bit of a drive to get to this place, I highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed.

We made a detour yesterday to pick up ice cream beacuse I couldn’t leave Syracuse without another bowl of Milky Way ice cream. And yes I said ‘another bowl’. Don’t judge me! Light chocolate ice cream w/​swirls of caramel and bits of chocolate. Creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced — it’s the best!

Literally some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. I ordered their Oreo sundae, and it was served to me in what looked like a giant takeout dish. I was shocked at the presentation, but big food fascinates me so I was cool with it, even if I had no hope to eat it all.
I chose almond bark ice cream as my base, and the cashier described it to me as light fudge ice cream with almonds and chocolate chunks. The ice cream itself was thick and creamy, like you find in a super premium ice cream. There wasn’t enough almonds in it, but it was hard to complain with all of the whipped cream, hot fudge, and marshmallow topping going on.
I haven’t had the opportunity to taste a lot of homemade ice creams, so trying Gannon’s was a treat. It’s out of my way, but it’s worth the detour — and I’ll definitely be back.

Peanut Butter Blast with Peanut Butter Perfection ice cream… It’s heaven in a bowl!

Amazing! The unique homemade ice cream flavors are like a local Ben & Jerry’s. I try a new flavor every time and I’ve never been disappointed: chocolate raspberry truffle– yum, almond joy– awesome, milky way– incredible…
Disadvantages: I think it’s more expensive than most other local stands. Also, it’s only seasonal. Still, I’m a loyal fan.

Oh, geez.
Homemade ice cream.
Ever-​changing flavors.
Peanut butter perfection. Caramel cashew. Snickers cheesecake. Kahlua fudge. Maple walnut. Strawberries and cream.
Can’t decide? Me, neither. That’s why I keep going back.
Creamy, delicious, sweet, salty, ice cream perfection.

So until this year I would have given them 5+ stars. I don’t know what happened this year-​the tough economy?!
Hands down, this is the best homemade ice cream in the area. I LOVE IT! The flavor selection is huge. I like anything coffee and they have 4 or 5 coffee based flavors-​all are SO good.
Normally the portions are huge but this year they are smaller. They used to jam pack the ice cream in to the dish. This year I have been twice and I haven’t been as anxious or in such a rush to get my fix of Gannon’s. I don’t know (I hope) it’s just a fluke and that it is a new employee who didn’t know the normal servings. But on my second visit, I recognized the girl from last year. So I have to assume they shrunk their portions. Next time, if it is less again, I will be asking! I love ice cream and junk but am also a healthy person, so when I go there to splurge, I am going all out. Normally I am struggling to finish a sundae from there, not this year!

I have been to many many states, and more ice cream parlours than I can recall, but nothing has ever been as good as Gannon’s. There are so many amazing combinations, but my favorites are Dark Chocolate Walnut and Chocolate Bavarian Torte. The coffee based flavours are also great.
Be prepared for a long wait, but it’s totally worth it. Now that I’m in a new city, Gannon’s is the standard I’m judging all ice cream by, and nothing has come close.
Easily the best ice cream I’ve ever had and a highlight of Cuse.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! Always a line during the busy season, but totally worth the wait every time. The young staff is always very friendly and efficient. I had try so hard not to go to Gannon’s every night! All their ice cream is homemade and delicious. My personal favorite– Milky Way!

Q: Why would you order ice cream when it’s freezing outside in Syracuse?
A: When it’s Gannon’s ice cream… And if you really think about it, the ice cream is actually warmer than the Syracuse winter outside.
With a ton of flavors and friendly service, Gannon’s is definitely on my Syracuse bucket list whenever I visit town. I especially like the almond bark, the Charlie brown, Rocky Mountain Raspeberry, and their brownie fudge (can you tell I like chocolate?). Usually you can sample a few, but the choice will be difficult indeed! The hot apple sundae was also excellent. And don’t forget their soft ice cream flavors! Everything I’ve had here has been super creamy and wonderful.
The décor inside is a little bit freaky (think disturbing/​cannibalistic animated ice cream cartoon murals
) but I’m sure the kiddies love it. Would be a great place for a kid’s party!
I highly recommend getting a child’s scoop (an adult small scoop is about the size of a slightly squished baseball). You can also take pints to go and call ahead to order. They also accept credit cards.
