So, the City of Syracuse is shaking up downtown. Hello Onondaga Creekwalk! I had seen a friend post photos of her walk and decided that when I was next in town I was going walking myself! Took me a little time, but I was finally able to convince my dad to take a walk with me. We parked [for free] in a recommended parking lot off of Bear Street(the map on their website shows several parking lots) and headed right for the walkway. While we chose to walk, there were plenty of people running, rollerblading and riding their bikes. And as we made our way around the Inner Harbor & through the Amphitheater we also noticed several fisherman who had set up shop for the afternoon as well as a few families who came down for some soccer and a picnic. Crossing over to the next segment of the walk we entered Franklin Square, a personal fav of mine, full of old brick factories that have been converted to businesses and residential buildings. The architecture is beautiful. Finally, after a 2 mile walk, we ended up in Armory Square where we found ourselves a spot to grab some lunch before heading back to the car. I love that the walk ends(or begins) in Armory Square — great place to eat /drink /shop before or after a walk. Besides those fishing/exercising… Who will like it? — families — couples — photographers(had it not been for our grumbling tummy’s I could have stayed a little longer…) According to the website they don’t have a date yet for the completion of the project(it will eventually go all the way past the mall to Onondaga Lake) but you should still head down there on a lovely Syracuse afternoon and check it out.
