Short version: they were rude and they seem to make up and apply charges at will depending on who the customer is.

Came to this shop based off a good recommendation from a family member. Explained to them I was having trouble accelerating properly, (pretty clearly transmission, right?!?) I Needed diagnostics run to start, than somewhere to get the work done. They asked me to bring the car back several days later, which was fine but they didn’t mention at that time the 120 $ fee… still fine, just wish they would have been upfront. I was surprised since we specifically went to this shop because they did NOT charge my family member for diagnostics three days before. When I dropped it off I was told I would get a call in about an hour. That was ten am. I called at 4:45 and was offered to make a credit payment by phone they were closing soon. Not really good enough, so I went in to be told they didn’t do transmission work, but would farm it out. This is where I get frustrated, why would you even offer to diagnose problems that you know you can’t fix I’ll still have to pay a transmission shop to do the diagnostics again before I get the work done. Essentially they plugged the car into a code reader and charged over a hundred dollars for it. Then his wife LITERALLY laughed at me as I asked about a specific grinding concern.
That’s classy. It seems to me this shop is willing to take advantage of people given the opportunity. I say that in review to the attitudes I encountered and the fact that two different people will get charged two different amounts for the same job. Classy fella.

I was looking for somewhere to get my van’s A/​C repaired. This van had the compressor and other parts removed before I bought it. I called Federal Way Automotive & Rad and they had me scheduled for a few days later. The service writer who took the call was very professional. Dropped the van off, and they called me at every major intersection of the repair to let me know where we were & cost. They had to rebuild my A/​C from scratch and they had it done in a day and a half.
Day and a half.
I am floored. This is amazing. They were very fair on price for both parts and labor, and my A/​C blows super cold. I dropped another car of mine off since my «normal» mechanic was still booked. They had it done in ONE DAY.
I think I found my new mechanic. Thanks so much Ron & Tracy!
