This was a life saver while it lasted. Unfortunately GF Joes closed both locations on 6÷14÷2014.

This place is the perfect for Gluten-Free! I needed some baking items and was surprised no other Unilocalers had posted pictures of what this place had to offer. It really had some awesome items, highly recommend! They have plenty of space, it would be great if they had a small GF restaurant or GF Bakery inside. I really like they have a product suggestion area!

Nice inventory. They could do more with the space that they have. Maybe have more signs so they can jog people’s memory for what they can’t find in a regular grocery store. Great gluten free beer selection. Price is no higher than at Whole Foods, Sprouts or Safeway but with a much better selection. Excellent freezer selections. Would definitely recommend or return to this store!

Glad I discovered this place! We especially like the pie crusts they carry. They usually have some really great deals on some items, and that’s a great way for me to try a new gluten free product. The employees are always friendly and helpful. I will agree with other reviewers that this place has a weird ambiance. They need some music or a different layout or something. I feel kind of exposed when shopping, especially because I’m usually the only customer. Other than that, it’s nice to have a place I can go to purchase foods that suit my dietary needs.

Went here today to just check it out. Went to a gluten free expo last week and tried a few things that I really liked. There was a snack bar I was looking for that they didn’t have, but they told me they would gladly order it for me. Great customer service. I look forward to checking out the one in Tumwater soon.

From the outside it looks huge, which adds to the shock when you actually enter the store. I agree with others that the ambience of the store is too sparse and quiet. It feels as though they have too large a space for their actual needs. There is what appears to be a deli area but it is empty. I asked how long they’d been open(thinking it must have been a very short period of time) and was surprised to hear it has been an entire year. There is a good variety of GF foods offered but prices are high. One of the things I miss most about being GF is beer. Finding Omissions beer was well worth the visit. $ 2 per bottle and delicious. Udi’s bread was also worth the visit. Things that I would like to see: Deli/bakery area, more bulk offerings. I will continue to shop here for things like bread, beer, pasta.

I cannot believe people are complaining about the way the store looks or lack of music… For people like me who have multiple allergies this store is lifesaving. The place is clean, spacious and very well stocked. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. There are there for you when you need them, gone when you do not. They go out of their way to help and keep their smiles on. Also I am a mom of a very rambunctious toddler and they are very kid friendly. They have those tiny shopping carts and nobody gives you dirty looks when they bump into things;)

If you have food allergies or restrictions this is a grand place to add to your food armory. From baking goods, baked goods, frozen bits(pizzas and the like) down to cookies and snacks GF Joe’s has it. I mainly stocked up on their excellent selection of Lara Bars. They easily have the most favors I’ve seen in one place. Their Lara Bars were just a little more expensive than what I’ve paid elsewhere but they were also not the most expensive I’ve seen at some places. Sadly, due to the extremely restrictive diet I’m on right now, I didn’t find much to fill my belly but if you’re mostly just gluten-free you’ll find tons of awesome meals and treats here! They really need to work on giving this place a personality though. The inside was bland and uncomfortably quiet. Get some music playing in the background and some decorations so it feels like a real business and not some back alley black market grocery store. Not sure what they would sell in a back alley black market grocery store but I don’t want to catch a shiv while buying almond flour. The staff were friendly enough and seemed to be pretty knowledgable regarding their wares. If you have limitations on what you can eat you may find something here to spice up your diet nicely. I’m a fan.

Quiet. Like a library. Forever on the quest to find food that I can eat while recently experimenting with gluten-free foods, my friend and I were excited to find GF Joe’s in Tacoma(the all-American hero?) Decorated sparsely, it looked like it had opened recently. There were a few people in there while we shopped. All were quietly and solemnly reading every label. I think I’m going to invent a phone app that can read bar codes that look for key words you enter to make shopping easier.(You saw it first here, guys.) They have an excellent frozen food selection – I was pretty impressed by that. They also had a variety of baking supplies with many alternative flours, which was cool. The day that I went in, a friend and I were looking for ready-to-eat desserts that would be honey/sugar/agave-free. No luck. I think I’m going to open a sugar-free Paleo bakery(so many thoughts of grandeur; I know.) I’ll call it, «Stevia Kind of Sucks and Tastes Funny, But What Other Choice Do You Have?» Before we left to continue our food mission, we veritably cleaned out their expansive selection of Lara Bars – at least the ones we could eat. Key Lime was my friend’s favorite, while Pineapple was mine. They carry a Tropical Fruit one I have never seen before, but they were out. Durn it. This place is easy to find(you can see the back of it from I-5) and they have their own parking lot. The prices are expensive, but not out-of-round – since any kind of mainstream food-alternative store seems to be more pricey. Read on; label readers. I’ll get started on that app… and the bakery… and my rocket ship.

Yaaay!!! Thank you Tacoma and«Joe» … I’ve only been once and the store is pretty new so that explains the selection but its all the things I usually go to multiple stores for in one place!

It’s just so… blah inside. either they need more color, or décor, or something… The ceilings are high for how little they have… just seems barren. They have lots of foods that look really good for people who are strictly gluten free. I’m rather limited, as I can’t have coconut, dairy or corn anymore… I did pick up a few things though. A bit pricey but worth it if you’re allergic and not just intolerant. I probably won’t shop here except every now and then.

Food allergic — code for«person who stands in aisle reading packages while other people sigh heavily.» We have a raft of food allergies and intolerances in our house: nightshades(eggplant and tomato,) legumes(including peanut,) soy, dairy/casein, gluten, sulfites/sulfates, several artificial sweeteners, and some food additives. Sure, there’s always rice, fresh fruit and vegetables, and meat — but there are times you really want a pizza. Or a cookie. Or, now you’re just thinking wishfully, a pretzel. GF Joe’s not only has all of those things you’ve been craving, they have things you forgot you wanted. I went in with the idea that I’d pick up bread and Daiya cheese. I walked out with two vegan(gluten, dairy, soy-free) pizzas, a bag of cookies, a bag of chips, my Daiya cheese, bread, English muffins, a chocolate bar, dairy-free yogurt, and probably something else I’m forgetting. This shop will eliminate all of my other shopping stops — no more stock-up trips to far-away stores. I just need to see if they’ll carry Manini’s pasta and I’ll never have to go anywhere else again. Prices are comparable to Whole Foods(which is often better-priced than TJ’s or Freddie’s for allergen-friendly foods) and the selection is the best I’ve seen from Bellingham to Portland. They have a comfy seating area equipped with crayons and coloring sheets for the kids, and friendly staff. Friendly staff that informed me that they’re planning on opening up a bakery within a year in the shop. You can bet I’ll be there on opening day, waiting for a cookie or, if I’m lucky, a cinnamon roll.
